Forced or Owned weapons?

  1. 1. Which would you prefer?

I'm putting my finishing touches on GTA Team Fortress and I can't decide between owned or pickups. You can only put down so many weapons and it really limits how many players can play. I like putting weapons in simple out in the open places near spawn so players can focus more on killing people.

So I was thinking forced and pickups but this is a fortress style map with cars that players will be able to use to reach the other fortress so I want them to have SMGs for drive by's but also have it so every player gets extra ammo on spawn. I just don't have enough guns.

But Owned... especially thanks to the homing launcher would just make the game drag on for way too long and it would be unfair for low level players to be stuck with crap weapons while others will have miniguns and rockets.

Why can't we have the option to have Owned but restrict certain weapons. Like having Owned but no rockets or miniguns?

Either way it's not an option so I have to choose. Which would you prefer?

Forced + pickups sounds like the way to go with this one.

You can't really rely on players to behave themselves in this game, so of course there's going to be RPG and sticky bomb spam if it's set to Owned.

Owned is practically begging for explosives, AA-12s and Miniguns, so at the very least you'd be convenienced to be set for Forced.

It depends. The only thing that annoys me about owned-pickup is when people start spamming explosive and rockets. Especially in small places like the FiB building.

I would have thought people would want more opportunities to get kills on their weapons to unlock certain things...

But then again those homing rockets would ensure no cars could get anywhere near the fortresses. Thanks guy! It's finished finally.

Bro, for the love of the deathmatch, only force + pickups. Or its gonna be a Minigun/Homing Launcher slaughter fest.

I vote Forced, while my preferred role in deathmatches is a Sniper, I find people spam explosives like they think winning the deathmatch won't come at a cost of $50k.

Vehicles? It doesn't sound like Team Fortress. Or is it coincidental that your DM shares name with a popular game?

Anyway, when I'm hosting I usually set it for forced+pickups, sometimes forced. In forced+pickups I rarely find myself out of ammo. You just have to go around the map and collect ammo instead just running and blazing your gun wasting your ammo. It adds some strategy to the game, you have to make wise use of the ammo you have. It fits well with the idea of TF-inspired map (if that's what you aim for).

Uhm... it's pretty big. There are two construction buildings as the fortresses. So one is in Pillbox and the other is in Alta. Not exactly massive but larger than most maps. Oh and it's a capture match. I'm actually proud of this one. Two teams, one is the Armenian mafia and the other is Merryweather. There are 3 NPC guards on each team that act as minor annoyance for offensive groups. Armenian have Buffalo and Patriots cars while Merryweather has FBI Buffalo and FBI SUV. And I want for the players to be able to have epic car chases and drive by shootouts which means I need extra ammo for players and some Mac-10s for the cars. But thanks to the stupid weapon limit each team can only consist of 5 players so they can have 5 AK-47s spawn right in front of them as guns and ammo. Then I have 4 Mac-10s placed near the car spawns for the drivers and 1 sniper at the top of each building for defensive players.

That's why I'm really debating on Forced vs Owned because I have to limit players to how many guns I can have for each team. But I do agree... it would just be rocket spamming galore so I'm going to have to go with Forced+Pickups.

Well the premise is capture for 1 team vs 1 team and their capture areas are these big construction sites so it's like a fortress, involves a team. Hence Team Fortress. And if I remember correctly didn't TFC matches have transporters? It was like a Engineer ability so the transporters are.... cars.... it's TF based I promise shhhh

ALWAYS Forced+Pickups if you want a balanced game session.

There is no level-based matchmaking in GTAO from what I can see, and as a lot of more powerful weapons are unlocked with levelling up it would create a huge imbalance between low and high level players.

Custom content is only fun for everyone if it feels like no one person has an unfair advantage (hence the negative reactions to those useless '$$$$$$$$ + XP' Deathmatches that are built to prey on people's lack of familiarity of the map). If high-level players are almost guaranteed to win against lower players, the game session becomes boring and frustrating, people will downvote, and will stop playing.

Using FORCED allows everyone to start with the same weapon, obviously - level of skill using said weapon comes down to a personal ability, so it's about mastering the tools given to you and not just going with the biggest weapon with the greatest splash damage. Adding PICKUPS allows you to 'bait' players into running for more appealing weapons, which can be a good way to control the flow of the map - by using risk and reward tactics, you can put RPGs/Chainguns in places with no cover, where people will have to make tactical decisions - do they go for the heavy weapons, and risk breaking cover, or do they stay safe, dig in, and make do with a lesser-powered firearm?

Any good multiplayer level has balance - you can expect more favourable feedback if you try to put yourself in other player's shoes. If anyone thinks it's fun to spawn with an AK47 while all other players are given a knife, then they aren't cut out for game design.

I prefer owned plus pickups, but I think forced is the way to go for this one. Drive by dm's, sounds like fun :)

Forced. We don't want "scouts" using RPG's now do we? :|

Drive by's are a staple of GTA, gotta have drive by's :)

I love the fact that we can make our own content but there such a lack of detail. Owned + Restricted weapons would be great so players can take their hard earned guns they've been leveling up to use in matches and even help unlock skins while making sure the map is still balanced. Or allowing the placement of more guns.

I have a similar issue with making races, I hate the fact that I can't stretch a checkpoint out. Or maybe I can but I'm too stupid to figure out how. Say you're racing on the freeway, wouldn't you want the checkpoint to be the size of the freeway in width? Rather than tiny little arrow that you MUST touch in order to not lose? I should be able to stretch out the length of the checkpoints so players aren't confined to one lane.

Oh and stacking objects on top of each other would be nice.

Owned? Why do you think we buy guns? To look at them?

Forced and pickup, it gives every a fair chance of winning, plus makes the lts, capture, or dm play put how it's supposed to.

It sure would be nice if their was a checklist of sorts to pick weapons for death matches and cars for races. More specific options FTW

Forced + pickups
Simply because I don't like to waste my ammo on something that won't pay back.
addionally, does anybody remember how fun it was the Forced only RPGs DM in IV?
Soon as we respawn, we could aim our RPG to the ground, fire and gets sent flying to the air without being harmed, fun times :)
Is that also possible in V, never bothered to check that out myself

I prefer consensual rather than forced, but maybe that's just me.

OT: forced+pick ups are the most interesting and fun. Allows you to get the feel for the theme of whatever particular map.

Owned + Pickups if you want everyone spamming RPGs, so much fun!

Forced + Pickups.

It's fair for low level players and it also encourages use of weapons other than MG's, Heavy or Explosives (which means it can also improve skills). It's also more fun than Owned + Pickups.
