I think it is actually a conscious effort to prove to op that there are brains out there in space, I don't think anyone is digging their own grave on this one. I don't use super cars (I have performance parts, so no need)

To be honest OP, the majority of our society gains a sense of belonging when they are around others who like the same thing, the next step in human relations is to attempt to expand in shared beliefs and experiences. It is the basis for how we decide who we want to be and who we want to be with, it is most definitely not exclusive to these forums or gamers, it is human nature. Look at every commercial in tv, they target a group, not an individual

So I'm older than most GTAO/GTAF player/members Id think. So I've a differnt attitude about many things.

Like the way I dress, deal w/co-workers(now employees). How I raised my kids, etc and so on.

But after hanging around this forum for six years or so I've noticed quite the herd mentality.

Wether it be cars(gotta have a super), apartment/house selections, how you deal with freeroam, blah blah.

Well, if he's not lying, Dumb guy is 44 years old. 44 year old men obsessing over poorly customized super cars wearing monkey masks being a "troll" on GTA doesn't come to mind.

I'm 44 and have a supercar. In gta rather than real life unfortunately!

Gta is great escapism from stressful jobs, family concerns etc lots of people in my circle of friends play it.

I don't think there's any harm in people owning the same stuff as there's often sound practical reasons for it, the sheeplike behaviour comes in when people venomous attack others for little points of taste such as custom tyres.

Everytime I see a meme post it reminds me of this old show on HBO called, "Dream On", in which the main character would use thought bubbles of pop culture references to explain his emotions to any given situation.
