reiniat
Is it ok to talk about it? I'm Christian by default due to my location and parents but giving serious consideration to becoming a Buddhist as it seems to be the most peaceful and focuses more on taking care of ones well-being. Praise the big nothing in the sky, it doesnt reward, it doesnt punish, it only exists. Its everlasting carelesness permeates all the existense. Tears come to my eyes when i grasp into its meaning, for everything came for nothing, the real nothing, the cruelest nothing, it is not a piercing blue (like the radiation emmited by the infinite void space). It is simply not there. Put your hands behind you back, can you see them? what can you see behind your back? it is not black, it is not white, its simply not there. Thats the true nothing: not there. And from it comes all existence. Join me and find hope even in death, for death is nothingness; creator of life. (Unless science proves im wrong and the cosmological constant turns out to be bigger than absolute 1. In that case my religion would have to change). Coin
I didn't read any texts but is that gonna be a thing. I thought I could just give off a good energy, look after myself and not hurt anyone. My main reason was so if I'm a really good person in this life I can come back as Gold and Blue macaw (live to 100 years). Well, the Buddhist concept of reincarnation doesn't really quite work out like that. Anyway, my feeling from reading your posts is that you're not really particularly interested in Buddhism as a whole (or even a majority), that you're more interested in getting into the afterlife party so to speak. Don't misinterpret me though, I'm not criticizing, this is perfectly fine. You can live well and be of the belief that if you live well you'll be reincarnated as a Gold and blue macaw without putting on the Buddhist label in the process. So if I'm reading you right, then I'd agree with the fellows that are suggesting to do your own thing rather than jump into an organized religion. /twocents AlienTwo
9i OTD
There's a saying from LA Noire or some sh*t that goes like this: If friends want to stay friends, they shouldn't discuss religion or politics. In horribly translated forum terms, it means don't start a topic about religion or else there will be a giant argument spanning several pages, approximately one f*ck ton of people will get involved, Black MID will completely destory them all in a debate and it will get locked. And Black MID, this is nothing against you, you're still pretty awesome. Fonz

It will turn into one of those religion arguments you see in youtube comments. of course it will turn out that way if you guys keep pushing it there. how about you participate in the thread instead of commenting on the thread? a very adventurous concept, i know, but it might just work. you know why? cause that's how it works every place that isn't infected by that cynical attitude you guys displayed just now. My main reason was so if I'm a really good person in this life I can come back as Gold and Blue macaw (live to 100 years). I'll keep this as short as I can (leaving some sh*t out but whatever) The Buddhist concept of reincarnation is not what you think it is. In Buddhism, the goal is to reach Nirvana, which is the liberation of the cycle of death and rebirth, and the end of suffering (ending of reincarnation) that is reached by following the 8-fold path. Reincarnation is not something Buddhists want, because it means your soul is still in suffering. If you haven't reached Nirvana in your lifetime, you'll be reborn into another body/reincarnated. Karma also plays a role in whether or not you have a good or bad rebirth, which I guess is what you were getting at with the macaw thing...idk. this might sound weird, but I'm agnostic, and believe in reincarnation...f*ck conformity I guess lol Edited February 20, 2015 by RavingWithJesus

Why not stick to what actually is there instead of the always same song about how evil and f*cked up everything will turn out? The personal theory also showed no signs of it happening for a bit, then someone brought up religious acceptance and intolerance and BAM - All hell broke loose. There was two pages of arguing IIRC and the mods had to lock it to remove all the arguing. And just before that, it was going fine and dandy. Man-Django
I'm not sure you understand the concept of Buddhism. All I know is that out of all the religious figures that Buddha looks the happiest and most fulfilled and isn't linked to any hatred or abuse like the other ones have engrained into them. I'd rather rub his belly for luck than tell some dirty old man my misdoings. I do actually have a problem with certain religious nutters such as The West Baptist Church. Also Mormons actually believe the paler someone's skin is the likelier they are to be accepted into heaven... sorry but that's actually just racist. mr quick
I'm gonna go through with the conversion, if Jesus wants me in his life he'll have to come to me... or get his dad to speak to me or all of us if he's all that powerful. I don't care about what's going with the monks or in the news and I know most common religions are all interlinked and full of holes. I've always looked at God more as a Creator that's probably got better game-saves than this complex universe. I watched Religilous recently. I miss my old Religous Moral & Philosphical Studies class, taught me to think outside the box. It is as bad to push religion on to people as it is to put it down. Religilous is a terrible film. Man-Django
A terrible film if your not bothered by getting religion rammed down your throat. There were many good, valid and rational points put forth in the film. The astronomer priest at the Vatican stating that there is no science in scripture due to modern science as we know it only coming about in the last few centuries. Leaving a massive gap from where that begun and when the scriptures stopped. 16% of Americans aren't in any religion. Also good to see what the Mormons and Scientologists believe. And the most poignant fact I remember being brought up was that some of the founding fathers of the US were actually against religion and Christianity. Thomas Jefferson going as far to write his own version of the bible. I'd say its not only a very entertaining documentary but it should actually be compulsory viewing in high schools. Majestic81
Religion is just mind control. it doesnt help in anything and doesnt contribute nothing but murder and confusion to the world. theres no holy man up in the sky. only lies and trickery. Switch if you want. but it will not help you. if you're just looking for faith, try something else that you actually love other than religion. Man-Django
@Marwin - Subjective and not a good film, please tell me what you didn't like about it? His humour or the belief he has that no one actually knows the answer? I liked how the people at the Holy Land tour just couldn't comprehend that the story of Jesus has been rehashed many times before dating back to the Ancient Egyptians. I've always known the word is a bunch of stories made to keep order and teach people morals. But theres also too much crazy and nasty stuff in the good book. And also a lot of crazy and nasty people who actually take them literally. Edited February 20, 2015 by TheMckeever

I was told this was a great f*cking film by a great f*cking comedian who was described to me as an important man in the secular world, but it turned out to be a mediocre(at best) film by a hack. I don't know, man, it's been a while since I saw it. In short, I guess I expected more. Now, of course, I'm more familiar with Maher, and would have expected much less. Tyler
Religion is just mind control. It is a shame you seek the comfort of the Archons with sentimentality and escapism yourself, though I suppose retreating into reactionary worldviews and avoiding the ambiguity that keeps you up at night is the natural tendency for pleasure-seeking animals in a pleasure-seeking society. It's funny that you think religion is just mind control; the broad metric with which you apply that label makes everything under the sun a form of mind control. What is society but force and coercion? What is education but selected information that those in control claim is the correct path to enlightened disposition? What is entertainment but a tool for pacification? Consideration should be taken before you assert claims like this.
