watersgta3
We've seen the generic GTA vibe (GTA 3), the 1980s atmosphere vibe (GTA VC), the early 90s west coast vibe (GTA SA), and the modern atmosphere vibe (GTA $4). What y'all think about a GTA game with that gritty, grimey vibe? You know, like Onyx and Mobb Deep style grimey.
American Viking
No, GTA V had the modernity theme. GTA IV was a gritty/grimy GTA game...plenty of blood and gore if that's what you're after, a dark environment that gave the streets of LC a perilous look, and a story where even the "happy" ending is by no means such. GTA IV is about as gritty/grimy as one could expect from GTA. KingAJ032304, iiCriminnaaL, burger_mike and 1 other
woggleman
One day they need to do a GTA set in 1970s Liberty City. That was when NYC was really gritty and grimy. burger_mike, The Dedito Gae, Zello and 3 others

helpplease
There will not be a gritty dark game for a long time. GTA 5 was created as light hearted because people rightfully complained that GTA 4 was boring. R* listened and made GTA 5 and would you know it it was like printing money. The Dedito Gae
^ This is why we can't have nice things. i beg to differ in a way, a story can be good without being gritty and dark, i love IV but personally, i'm not a fan of gritty stories and i wish Liberty City had a bigger palette of colors instead of brown, grey and black. i'm still waiting for an hd gta that has a good balance between serious and light hearted, i have my hopes high for gta IV seeing as IV it's III counterpart (cold dark classic game) and V it's SA counterpart (dumb naive history, but more features) gta VIce city has no other fate than greatness, mark my words, Nico. The Dedito Gae
TBoGT is there Theres purple...more purple....some white here and there....more purple.... yeahh, no. it anoys me how R* goes from one extreme to another with tone/history , compare IV to V, TLAD to TBOGT. according to R* maths is: gritty dark= great history but less features Sunny lighhearted= half assed history but more features. why we can't have both? again, Vice City counterpart will be great and will have the best protagonist evar . i hope. GTA 5 was created as light hearted because people rightfully complained that GTA 4 was boring. R* listened and made GTA 5 and would you know it it was like printing money. People didn't complain about GTA IV being boring because it was dark and gritty. The majority of the complaints about GTA IV being boring (Even if I don't agree with them) come down to not having as many features as the 3D era GTAs. If being dark and gritty was the primary reason GTA IV's story wouldn't be consistently praised as the best in the series. As for R* trying another dark and gritty GTA again I hope it doesn't discourage them. I don't want every GTA to feel like SA and GTA V. It's important to spice things up IMO and I've always felt that has been one of the reasons the series has been so successful. It has something for everyones' tastes KingAJ032304, Clemb, Zello and 2 others
watersgta3
Maybe I should be a bit more specific. I'm talking about the dark and grimey urban atmosphere. More of that brutality. Focused more of that grimey urban street life. Not in the hood. But in the dark and gritty city streets hardcore style. Watch Onyx, M.O.P., and Mobb Deep's music videos back in the 90s and you'll know where I'm getting at with this. Zello
I want a dark city like Robocops Detroit they could make it Carcer city with a high crime rate, corrupt mayor, corporations running things, and the people left to fend for themselves. Not too dark though Edited February 21, 2015 by Zello santosvagos, iiCriminnaaL and ObsydianRaven
Niko Montana
I would love for GTA 6 to be a dark and gritty game, seeing how 'happy' V was. It would be a good switch. There should be more focus on the criminal underworld and gangs, as well as activities and side missions which reflect the atmosphere. The city should be a really corrupt and dangerous place with many gangs, a corrupt police force and corruption everywhere. It should be set in 80s/90s in Carcer City, which should be based on Camden, NJ. iiCriminnaaL, Kafonix, santosvagos and 2 others
Journey_95
sadly the kiddies won't allow it I guess we will have to do with GTA IVpersonally I think Niko's story is one of the best in all of gaming There will not be a gritty dark game for a long time. It has something for everyones' tastes I hope so too but I don't think so even though the story of GTA IV is constantly praised many SA fanboys (and in general 3D era fans) didn't like the new "darker" direction and after GTA V (which most people liked) I really doubt that we will go back to that again its a shame but most of the GTA fanbase wants over the top stuff and a lighthearted story iiCriminnaaL
J Cobra
I didn't really enjoy the gritty feeling GTA IV offered. It felt rather dull and boring.
iiCriminnaaL
It's subjective, but I actually enjoy the gritty atmospheres the most. GTA III, IV, The Lost and Damned, and even Liberty City Stories to some extent, even though its story didn't really reflect the atmosphere of the respective city it was set in that much. KarimNTerr
I dream of a GTA set in 70's Liberty City, man that'd be amazing! As I said in the L.A. Noire topic, "just imagine that 70's music, the cars, all the movie references, the car chases, the gritty atmosphere of NY back in those days, the mafia... plus, police corruption was at its peak in that time period, making you choose weather you wanna be the righteous policeman or the dirty cop using the cases to your personal advantages or both if they choose to make multiple switchable characters... so many possibilities" Posted it there 'cause I don't see Rockstar going back in time when it comes to GTA, but yeah, I'd still prefer a 70's GTA rather than a Noire game
Evil empire
I didn't play GTA 4 nor 5 and I'm not fond of gritty/grimy sets but I wouldn't be surprised to see another dark episode to make a change and since Liberty City and all the north-eastern americian cities provide an excellent background for a gritty environment. Casualplaya
Frankly, even though the main idea of a Grand THEFT Auto game is crime to some point, I actually always liked the idea of being able to have some 'legit' jobs in the GTA World - Cabbie, Paramedic, Firefighter asf. - so no, not really has to be more "gritty/grimey". In fact that is the one thing I thought stood out a bit in GTA IV - you (occasionally) had a choice to let certain targets live. More choice, more variety in storytelling (side missions?) and perhaps different outcomes. KingAJ032304 and billiejoearmstrong8

In the end, stealing a car is something which per definition of the game of the name is the bare minimum standard. So selling off cars to earn some cash would also be cool! Other than that: Courier, Pizza Boy / Noodle Boy, Trashmaster, Bus Driver, Paramedic, Firefighter, asf. would be nice.

It's funny because if you played gta 1, London 1969, or London 1961 practically all the missions were stealing cars in some way or another. GTA didn't really get its shooting aspect until GTA 2 (a very underrated GTA IMO)

I like how in GTA IV you can sell an unlimited amount of stolen cars to Stevie's garage after you've completed his car list. It's also the only real way to make a decent amount of money outside the storyline (as most side jobs either aren't infinite, don't pay much or don't pay anything). It's overlooked that in this game grand theft auto is actually your main source of income, I don't know if that was a deliberate choice or if it just worked out that way but I like it. 13 hours ago, KingAJ032304 said: I always wanted to play as a protagonist that start off with a minimal wage job that do drug deals in his spear time living with his best friend Yeah! I take my time at the beginning of IV, it's cool to be working as a taxi driver and delivering drugs on the side to make some cash and get to know the place at the beginning before you get totally pulled back into crime. And to hang out with Roman and Jacob and go on dates. Feels very authentic. Edited August 27, 2019 by billiejoearmstrong8 iiCriminnaaL
