Depends.

 

If my car is in good condition, I hop the fence

If I have a crap condition car, or a bike/motorcycle, I'd pay the $250, so I don't get killed and it goes back to the impound lot again.

 

Finally, if I see a chrome Adder or other hideously modified car, I'm getting a Cargobob and dropping that eyesore into the ocean.

it happens sometimes because the cops are assholes, they look for any reason to kill you, plus we still have griefers who kill you and that sometimes ends with your car in the impound lot.

Not sure if it was just GTA 5 lagging those two times, but when i died and got my car impounded I immediately joined a race, after leaving the race I was greeted by my car spawning next to me.

I usually jump the fence, kill the cops and take my car back. I then wait and slaughter the other cops and then drive away victorious!

I call my mechanic for another PV then call insurance to replace the impounded-destroyed one.

 

Unless it's a rare car such as my Roosevelt or a couple of my other cars which have repainted stock rims which R* removed that ability, and I don't want to risk losing them to an insurance glitch (I lost my hearse from an insurance glitch), then I go and retrieve it.

I use to always just launch Rooftop Rumble back when it spawned you right there, got my car back with no cops and made 18.7k.

If its cheap, I just call another car so it gets destroyed. If its expensive, I start up a mission and get it with no wanted levels

Pay the 250 fee, and use the jerry can exhaust exploit to destroy all other impounded cars.

 

Sometimes I purposely impound my car and change sessions until I find one with other cars impounded before I go get it.

I'll go to the impound lot to get my PV just to destroy other peoples PV's. A little gas and the exhaust from my car go a long way.

Yeah... But if you go into the impound lot to steal your car back and you get killed in the process but your PV survives, it gets unimpounded?

Infact, sometimes what I am liable to do is, pay the $250, shoot a cop in the face, toss a few grenades around, destroying several vehicles, and then exit by climbing over the fence of the impound.

This^. Start up Rooftop Rumble, steal car back, get paid for extra time taken in mission and no wanted level or extra cost.

 

I'll admit my PV doesn't get impounded often though.
