Heists: The Beginning of the End for GTA DLC?

I believe that GTA Online is going to continue indefinitely, even past the release of new GTA games.

I believe that when a new GTA game is released, the city in that game will be added as basically a map expansion to Online. You would probably need to,use airports to travel between cities. Additionally, you wouldn't be able to travel to another city unless you've purchased the game associated with it. For example, if GTA VI takes place in Vice City (no idea, not speculating, just picking a random example), you won't be able to go to Vice City from Los Santos unless you've bought GTA VI.

My speculation here is based on what I've read in the past about Rockstar wanting there to be one Online world that grows with GTA. Please don't ask me for a source because this is just my recollection of what I've read in the past. I could be wrong, or maybe I'm right but Rockstar will end up doing something differently; who knows. Personally, I think this expanding Online world concept makes sense and would be great.

Whatever the case, I think it's reasonable to assume PS3/Xbox 360 users (like myself) will be left with whatever the heist update introduces and everything before that.

Looks like we'll have to spend a few hundred dollars(/pounds/euro's/etc.) to be able to enjoy more content after heists.

Hope they're good!

based on evidence out of your ass?

I don't know what kind of medical issues YOU have to you would think this, but no. Based on the direction that Rockstar is headed in. Which is that "last gen" has no priority anymore whatsoever.

Are you blind or just ignoring this?

Don't act like a child.

What priority? What updates has next gen gotten, since release, that last gen missed out on? Christmas DLC (the only DLC released since next gen) was 95% the same on both versions. Patches were released for both versions. Heists will be on both versions (per Rockstar).

As far as I can tell, he's right - you're pulling it out of your ass. Rockstar has given no indications of completely ignoring last gen in favor of current, except that they released a current gen version (which isn't really evidence at all). And in fact it would be stupid to ignore last gen, since they still have a large player base there and get presumably a good amount of cash card sales from it. The amount of effort required to port DLC across generations is comparatively little for the reward they'll get out of it, in terms of retaining players who might otherwise drift away, and encourage them to keep spending some money.

Rockstar clearly hasn't had GTA on their priority lists for a long time now, the game has pretty much gone to sh*ts.

We used to see patches weekly, now were extremely lucky to get one monthly. Still having problems that existed at launch and with every patch they break stuff that used to work perfectly.

My guess is that they're hard at work on another upcoming game, because they're clearly not doing a dam thing for GTA atm.

If and when heists ever come out, it's gonna be buggy and glitchy as sh*t, despite them taking over a year to "perfect it". The day rockstar releases something that doesn't have a billion bugs and glitches, will be the day I staple my balls to my forehead and go outside clucking like a chicken until I get arrested.

They absolutely don't deserve all the money they made off this game, they didn't deliver whatsoever..

Given they've spent a over year writing and re-writing heists and working on story mode DLC, making the next gen/PC versions with first person mode I'd suggest its top of their priority list. Or does that count as not working on the game?

Weekly updates ? when exactly was this ? we got updates once a month, if that.

No point in earning Heist money. Someone can just buy a Shark Card without having to go through the hassle of completing a heist.

Also, when you do complete a heist than what next? "Cash is everything in Los Santos" they say but what's there to buy when you own almost everything when you are over a Rank 120? Just more ammo, body armor, and snacks from the gas station?

That's just my take on it. No need to get feelings hurt in here.

They'll be the Hydra.... that APC truck with a machine gun mounted on the back in the Heists update... those will likely cost a few million. Plus filling thirty garage spaces with cars would also take a good fortune.

And I guess by your logic there's no point to playing single player either... because the missions or heists couldn't possibly be enjoyable in their own right..... its not like the point of the game is to enjoy playing it. The point is to earn and spend virtual money having fun while doing it is completely out of the question.

I bet the big Heist DLC will add plenty more stuff to buy since you will have an avenue for making big bucks quicker.

OMG...what's with all the doomsday scenarios? WTF?

Why don't we wait for these damned heists to finally come out before we start making pronouncements that the game is dead?

Interesting topic OP and I'm surprised by the replies. I was expecting people would be very cynical about the future updates but it seems there is more optimism than I thought. Since the independence day release I have noticed a decline in the quanity and quality of the DLC that is being released which shows rockstar is slowing down the dlc train and combine that with the difficulty and extra time that has taken to complete heists and I would think they would be reconsidering how much new content they come out with. Personally I hope they do continue with smaller but more frequent updates in the future.

Proof or it didn't happen. A lot of the DLC was ready to go. As with many companies, they just cut content and line it up as DLC.

Many aspects of 1st person were extremely half assed, such as the interiors on cars. They didn't put an incredible amount of effort into this feature and it shows.

Weekly updates ? when exactly was this ? we got updates once a month, if that.

Judging by your confusion, it would suggest you recently got the game. Back in 2013-2014, there were weekly patches to address the various issues that were present. The game is still swarming with issues, yet were seeing little to no patches at all. For a while we were actually getting DLCs once a month, but patches were just about every week. There's no excuse for them not to be continuing support, unless this magical heist DLC will also contain a mega patch for all the problems the game has, but that's unlikely..

The only problem with that is if they go back down to 16 or even with 30 players for GTAVI the players will be spread so thin from LS to where ever the new game is set. On the other hand if flying to another area counts as joining a new lobby and they continue to make separate aim settings instead of finding a way to unify all players, there's going to be allot of dead lobbies a few months down the line.

In terms of world building I think they might mean adding continuity to your GTAO character's criminal career. For example in 2015 your character is is busy making a name for themseles in LS, a few years down the line that same character could be causing chaos in Vice City wearing a Hawaiian shirt and flip flops, interacting with a whole new set of personalities that have heard about your past accomplishments in Los Santos.

While I think the idea of switching to another location without having to change the disk sounds cool on paper I think it would be for the best if each area stayed exclusive to the game they were used in until R* is capable of making 64+ man lobbies on consoles and they find a way to seamlessly connect the areas with no load times.

I don't believe that it'll be the end. I believe that once R* releases the Heists, they will start cranking out DLC updates every month like we grew accustomed to. I've been waiting patiently for Story DLC more than I have been for the Heists. It does appear we are in a "dry period" for content but I have a feeling that that will end soon.

That's not why heists will kill gta. It will kill it because randoms won't be able to complete the heists.

Lester's already called it - we're not ready for heists. I still get randoms blowing up objectives on contact missions or charging in solo and dying instantly - there is no way this community has the chops for something like heists. Patience, teamwork, coordination? Not happening.

Many of us have seen our crews drain away over the last 18 months - with no crew, heists will be virtually impossible - without hiests, many people will have no reason to stay/return.

This is my sad prediction. Find a crew or heists will remain on the bucket list.

HEISTS: THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR GTA DLC?

So in the spirit of the impending heists update I thought I would post this rather 'controversial, no doubt' question regarding upcoming DLC. Yes, it's one of those posts... i'm talking specifically about the dreaded 'heists' word here.

Speaking hypothetically, let's say rockstar actually surprise us and release this update. Great, we have then is essentially a series of chronologically ordered contact missions that give you a nice hefty payout. For a couple of months it will interest us no doubt, so a little longer than previous updates. Then what? I'm not criticising the update at all, i'm talking about the bigger picture here. Is it likely we will see further updates after Heists or is this how GTA DLC intends to 'go out with a bang'.

We've seen video after video of potential updates in the future that never really materialise. Military update? Zombie update? Mission Creator? Yes, these. They see things in the coding.

I would love to see some kind of mission/creator update that uses the same pay-out system as current missions based on timing so exploits are avoided. With next-gen I would have thought these kind of updates would be possible, at one time I would have said inevitable.

So what do we think? Do we think there will be future updates in a post-heist world? Or perhaps not? As an avid GTA Online fan who has exhausted most of the game, this interests me.

Not greedy or ewt.

No, no and no. Heists are NOT the end of DLC. A new GTA is at least 4 years away.

only reason i'm excited for the update is because of all the other stuff we'll get with it. Don't get me wrong, heists are cool, but they're just another set of missions at the end of the day. This is mainly why I'm so impatient now, after waiting patiently for a year. I just want the hydra and the other things, which shouldn't take this long to make but they're tied to heists now so gotta wait for those damn things

No it wont be the last one but after its release, we literally know nothing about future updates and due to their lack of communication about anything, I think people will be left in limbo about what to expect or not. At least Bungie has stated with Destiny what their plans are. To keep people interested in the coming months after the heist fire dies down, they're going to need to say something.

Can't wait for not being able to connect to friends while playing Heists!

Come on. It's inevitable.

Anyway, maybe this Single Player DLC will be substantial.

I'd be willing to pay for a large addition to GTA with a lot of content.

This game could use a little freshening up.

He might be right. Assuming Agent is still in the works the next GTA could be a loong while away, it makes sense that R* would want everyone to migrate to CG/PC so they aren't shackled by the limitations of the old consoles when coming up with ambitious and exciting new content to keep people playing during the long wait until the next game.

Updates like heists should come out to old consoles considering it was announced before the game was even released but after that I could see a shift happening considering 2015 is looking promising for CG exclusive games which should lead to more and more people making the switch leading to less incentive to continue support for PS3/360 version of GTAO.

Rockstar confirmed before the release (or at the release, my memory isn't too great with dates) of GTA Online that they would support GTA Online through every future GTA game and had plans to expand the world with new maps. That doesn't mean SF or LV like too many people just assumed, but it means the new GTA games map will be a part of GTA Online, so there's still a lot left for GTA Online. Also Rockstar mentioned something along the lines of "toying with old content" hinting that previous maps may appear, but this is not a guarantee and shouldn't be taken as fact.

OP you really need to stop looking for sh*t that isnt there and listening to people that think they work at R*. People think they can read the coding but have been proven to be wrong time and time again so why fall for the BS they put out to get their 15 minutes?

Sorry but people like you deserve to be disappoint for being so gulible

I doubt heists will be the last update, in fact, I'd go as far as to say that it definitely won't be.

Why? Well, they're hardly going to release the PC version with heists included, then not do any updates.

Many PC users will be brand new to GTA, so offering no updates after release would go down like a lead balloon.

Also, R* have a GTAO team to work specifically on the online side of the game... these guys aren't just gonna get the sack once heists are finished. (Although maybe that's why they're taking their time?!)

Still, there will be updates.
