First time OP so go easy pleasey?

Basically I've noticed that the dirt/dust that splatters and settles on your car is temperamental.

Like sometimes I can drive for 5 mins and it'll get dirty, but other times I can drive for ages and nothing. It'll look like new.

Just wondering if this is a bug or something.

I'm talking about the dirt/dust not the mud splodges btw. Like this

driving on clean roads wont do much or take much longer

going off road = way more dirt much more quicker

LL u legend no I know that obviously. Even when driving nears Trevor's or through paleto or even off-roading the dirt pickup is sometimes realllllllly slow ..?

Edit. Picture above; obviously worked that day. I think I drove from coast to coast. Around entire freeway. But sometimes the car never gets dirty

Make a single player save in a car out in Paleto Bay or Sandy Shores

Hey man. Nice car pics btw lol. Yeah I googled this topic before posting and found a post you replied to back in July or something. I tried the quick save thing but it only seems to work on the car you spawn in online. when u change cars the dirt doesnt pick up

It's picky about where you save. I have a spot behind Beeker's Garage up in Paleto Bay that I park at that works perfectly for everyone that's tried it. I'll snap a pic for you in a sec.

Thanks by the way, you too! ;)

Also depends on what you're driving on - sand makes for a lighter, more even layer of dirt, whereas mud splatters (from, say, going down the subway construction or the sewer tunnels) make for big splashes on the sides.

Likewise, if you spawn in an area where there's mud or dust around (e.g., after a mission), you can start with a dirty car - happens a lot if I finish a mission around Sandy Shores.

Ah yes very true, the post mission spawning method is a safe bet. But it's just nice to go cruising around and have the realistic build up of dust to show for it afterwards. Shame it's temperamental. Lol thanks dude.

And yeah I'm referring more so to the even layer of dirt. The splashes happen 100% of the time.

Ah - in that case, go off-road in the desert! ;) Might be worth taking a spin around the Redwood Lights track for a bit:

Love that place lol. I wish I had a photo to show you. It's weird. I did do that for ages literally every dirty track u could think of and the build up was so slow the car still looked garage clean. Yet the mud splashes were still happening. The rest of the car was pretty clean. I mean like 20 minutes of real time driving. Weird. Anyway no biggie!

And shepherd I even Drove around redwood lights track. Drove around the whole map for ages and still only managed to pick up mud splodges but no actual dirt wtf.
