Gun Damage Seems Low

Recommended Posts

So I noticed that my damage from shooting seems to be a lot lower than some other players. I'm only level 32 but I have full shooting skill and a special carbine with all mods and yet other players seem to be able to kill me a lot quicker than I can kill them.

For example, I'll get the drop on another player and unload almost a full clip into their chest / head and they often just turn around and gun me down in a couple of shots. Is it because they are a higher level? Are they using a better gun? I really find it frustrating that my dps seems to be about 5 times lower than everyone else.

That's because there's a health difference. This game punishes you for not playing it lol.

Basically, the higher level you are, the more health you have. The lower level you are, the less health you have. Once you reach rank 100, you reach max health.

Also not sure if you realize, but this is the GTA V section, not Online. You should redirect your questions there.

Sorry for posting in the wrong section, if anyone could move it that would be appreciated.

Ah, that will be the problem then. I wasn't aware that your health increased with levels.

Is there a way to join a session with only players of a similar level or should I just try to avoid players of a much higher level?

Well, speaking of max health and GTA V, how much health do the three protagonists have compared to a rank 100 character? I'm curious.

The SP characters seem to have less than Online's, but they seem to take lower damage than the Online crew. That and Trevor's special ability...

Well in GTA IV I had same struggle when playing on multiplayer. It turned out to be accuracy of every weapon. I was mad at first that other players killed me so easily but after I discovered that it's better to fire single bullets or shor bursts aimed for head instead of going full auto retard to the chest I noticed that game was so much easier. I liked that concept because it truly rewards patiance and being calm. Don't know how it is GTA Online but if shooting is based on the same idea then you know what you should do.

I did noticed that npc in hard mode are indestructable. Sometimes I have to shoot multiple times in the head before killing them. That's why I use the heavy sniper a lot in missions these days. I've got every weapon(except limited editions) and I think the damage on npc's is decreased

Even at level 39, you only have 20% of the health that players at level 100 or above have. Until you get to at least level 80, you're pretty much made of papier-mâché. Level up to 80 or 100 and practice locking on and flicking the aim stick up to headshot AI enemies for practice in the meantime.

Sounds like one them high level overkill-combat rolling, LTS outfit dressed, pink or blue tint on a special carbine rifle-shooting player who be talkin' with the usual: "murk yo'bitch ass" and "lay down mfker yo'trash" stuff on the mic. Mute mic, find a location, wait for the sh*t talkin' player to finally combat-roll from Franklin's Aunt's house all the way up to eclipse towers (let's just say you camping here) and make sure you got a trap set or know your environment and LAY DAT FOOL DOWN with an assault shotgun or special carbine rifle or whatever the f*ck, just MURK, DURK, WURK, JURK, LURK, BURK, TURK, FURK, NURK, CURK, ZURK, QURK that player!

As an experienced TDM player, I have to say OP is right. For instance, that happened to me a few times last night playing against friends. I'll be shooting an opponent from a side angle loading bullets into them, and they're capable of turning and taking me out instantly. When we discuss, they'll tell me they lost no health whatsoever. The mechanics of shooting are f*cked. I don't even think it's lag and ping to blame at this point I just think it's the game. This stuff doesn't happen when I play call of duty

It's usually a sympton of latency/lag and also the priority of weapon vs your opponents weapon.

The best way to deal with lagging players (when you find that auto aim doesn't reliably lock on certain players) is to use a free aim weapon like Sniper or Marksman rifle at a distance.

If you have to engage at mid-close range, use an AP pistol, I usually register the kill first against players using automatic rifles, and handy against laggy players in vehicles who try to run you over.

Against players who are not laggy, then you select shotgun at close range, and switch between auto rifles and sniper weapons over a distance.

I find the Advanced rifle, special carbines, etc are not effective against good players that know how to move, so generally I stick to sniping on the street against them.

Whoa... That last sentence though.

Ot: Aim for the head, buy body armor, wear LTS outfits and helemts (they increase health, but if you go for style over performance like me then don't) and remove the silencers. 100% guaranteed ass kicking machine. Practice the Headshot Lock On in missions on NPCs.

Meh, it's often lag. I was playing a TDM the other night against a laggy player who kept rolling constantly. On one occasion I shot him with the pump action shotgun from a few feet away, then he did a combat roll immediately after and died just after finishing the roll without me shooting him again. Looked really funny.

He owned my friend and I in the first game, but we soon got the hang of combating his lag and constant rolling and won by a slim margin in the second game. By the third game I kicked his ass and he gave the TDM a thumbs down and quit back to freeroam!

Sweet success!
