Eurotrash
$40 on Steam? Really? Well I take it back then, Steam sucks in this country. Yup. India and China, thanks to low economic conditions, are the only countries that has lower rates on Steam. China has even low. I think it's 30$ there. low economics conditions? what? China is world's second largest economy and India third largest economy, if GDP (PPP) is concerned ... So... thats why. Source1 Source 2 Yeah, VAT on electronics here is 21%, that includes software. That Vat on Software is a bullsh*t that we can avoid on our end. Steam doesn't charge you the VAT, and in sites like Kinguin, you can just use Online SMS Sites to verify that you're a US Citizen. We have 27% VAT Here .
Apocalypse Now
I bought it on steam because i never had a problem with steam-Rockstar-games. Unlike my retail L.A. Noire...
Koger
I'll probably get the retail version first if it comes with some special stuff like a map or a guide like San Andreas did. Then I'll get the Steam version later , on a sale of course.
AussieProGamer
I always buy games that I really favour in physical copies, there's just nothing like it, plus you get the added advantage of less bandwith used to download the game. Phillyboy
There is no difference, whatsoever. Buy the one you like to...or the one that is easily accessible to you. I kinda predicted and understand if there is any difference between retail and steam version. My most concern is retail version of GTA5, in terms of the ability of updating the game and downloading dlc(s). GTAV PC retail version would be integrated with RGSC ( Rockstar Games Social Club ), ofcourse without Steam. RGSC PC client will handle updating and downloading, through its auto-updater,i.e. Launcher, Just like MP3.. i didnt have mp3 on steam and i still had mp3 updater

ChumCrumpet
Steam has easier updates and I like it because I'm usually always on Steam for the chat so it's nice to be able to talk while playing. Of course you don't get the satisfying psychical copy in a nice box and as someother people have said... Steam. unless you have sh*t internet. The Algerian
-If you want Steam achievements, possibly Steam Workshop support, and want everything else Steam has to offer, then the digital version is a good option. You also have the ability to make screenshots. This is soooo not going to happen. maddog652
Sleepy Dude
You'll need retail if you have a severe bandwidth cap per month or live in a place which only has slow internet speeds. If you have no cap, slow internet speeds might not be as bad as having a severe cap. If your internet speed and capping isn't an issue or worry, I'd recommend the steam version. It is the platform to support and the convenient platform for players. How is Steam more convenient platform considering it will use Social Club for mutiplayer. I live in Australia and we don't have fast intern compare to Korea, HK or US. I can have 1Mb/s or a bit faster but mostly around this speed (Unlimited). I am just thinking if I sometimes want to play it offline I can't do it for the steam version cuz I have to log in steam to play it. Steam has an offline mode. Also, its easier if you get a new computer because you have all your games conveniently in your library. Also no disc to worry about. Seems like a win-win, unless you get under a megabyte per second. PhillBellic
I will be purchasing a hard copy. I prefer holding the case, DVD's and paper materials in my hands.
Agathodaemon
In Poland it's obvious that everyone will buy a retail version. It will cost 150 PLN (~36 euro) and on Steam it's 60 euro (and you still get a box with map and everything).
MisterL
I'll buy it from Steam because it will be much cheaper in my county.

112quin
How will it work with mods and the steam version? Isn't it true that if you buy the game on steam, you will always have to update it to the most recent patch? I remember that with modding GTA IV, some older patches were way more stable and suited for modding then some of the newer ones. Modding is one of the main reasons why I'm buying GTA V, would it then be better to buy the retail hard copy?
Pyingyongyang
Benefits of Retail version: - Depending on where you live, you can find it cheaper than on Steam (for my case, Amazon sell it for £5 less than on Steam) - You get a nice physcial box to keep your discs in - You only have a few GBs to download for updates, instead of 60GBs+ if you download it - You get a massive and cool-looking map of Los Santos - Can also download the game from Rockstar servers if you lose your discs Benfits of Steam version: - Steam integration (Steam Overlay, Steam screenshots, Steam achivements, etc.) - Downloads from Steam servers (which in my experience are better than Rockstar servers) Both versions also use R* Social Club.
