webe123
I saw a video a couple of months ago on a link on this forum that showed how stupidly the police acted! It looked like one of the WORST police AI's in a GTA game ever! The police generally came out of nowhere, would not even try to do a PITT manuver...just simply bump lightly the back of your car and the wheels turn by themselves...making you go in a direction you did not intend to go. I am just wondering if this has already been addressed in the next gen. console versions? Or do you think some mod will have to be made so that they act correctly? One thing is for sure, I have not played any of the console versions, but police acting that way on a PC version would be unacceptable to me. If I am going to put out money for this game, I expect it to have major flaws like THAT worked out! oCrapaCreeper
The police do PITT you, but only do it at slower speeds. Otherwise they will just ram you with rubberbanding AI. They got slightly improved in current gen, if you commit a crime in an area like Mount Chilliad police cars won't drive up to you. Then there's still the fact that animals have the ability to report crimes like peds do. Yeah, totally modding that out. KuraiShidosha
I'm nor expecting any improvements over the console versions because Rockstar are not fans of PC. they'd rather be lazy and not make the most of the platform. the only reason the graphics on pc will look so good is because of the timing of next gen consoles alone and that they remastered the game before porting it to pc. Nick930930
It'll be the same as PS4. Just be excited that the game will finally be accessible on steam. That's going to be about the only difference you'll really see aside from some minor graphical improvements and the likelihood of user-generated mods that will likely be a bitch to figure out how to install. Sleepy Dude
I am so confused by all the angry people here. Have you ever played a gta game in the past? When have the police EVER been good? It's a running joke in the series about how terrible they are. At least in this one they can shoot straight, unlike the past games. GTA IV had much worse AI that V, and its still a great game. Edited February 17, 2015 by Sleepy Dude Raz33R

nkjellman
The police in GTA V are the worst. Sure in past GTA's they were bad, but in V, they really piss me off. They are smarter in V which is good, but in some ways, they are practically cheating. Here is a rundown of the things that need to change about the cops in V. -No bursts of speed for cop cars. Cops get bursts of speed, and when the cops drive, vehicles should handle the same for them as they do when you drive them. -Increase spawn distance so cops don't practically spawn on top of you. -Animals being able to report you. What the f*ck. Who ever thought that was a good thing to put in the game is mentally retarded, and I will be changing that when I get my hands on the PC version. -Cops shouldn't automatically be able to always know where you are. It seems like there are times where the cops always know right where I am. -Cops shouldn't use lethal force on a 1 star wanted level. They should try and arrest you. They should use their nightsticks on a 1 star. -Cops should spawn in GTA Online. They only spawn at police stations, or when you have a wanted level. -Cops shouldn't chase you for having a non personal vehicle in GTA Online. FugetSudo
I agree with Sleepy. I think the cops are great.... its one of the main reasons we play GTA. I think folks just need to chill and learn the deal with the new police-behaviors. animals reporting crimes is a little too crazy... probably a glitch and will get patched eventually. oCrapaCreeper
-Cops shouldn't use lethal force on a 1 star wanted level. They should try and arrest you. They should use their nightsticks on a 1 star. They don't, they aim their gun at you at 1 star and attempt to bust you at gun point. If you resist arrest by either attempting to run away in their line of sight or discharge weaponry the wanted level automatically raises to 2 stars and they begin to fire, just like in GTA IV. They aren't going to keep trying to bust you if you're obviously not going to let yourself get arrested, so they fire. At that point they will only attempt to bust you if a few minutes have gone by without you injuring a cop. ienvy
The reason why animals can "report crimes" is probably cause theyre in the same "pool" as everything else. That pool likely constists of every NPC type in the game and they probably just gave that entire pool the ability to "report crimes". That said, its rather stupid, but it shouldnt be too hard to "fix" on the PC. Edited February 17, 2015 by ienvy MythAlex

Cops AND NPCs...got sniped by an NPC who was using a pistol, sitting sideways in a boat. So fricking pathetic. And you don't even need to fire a shot; I got a wanted level from barely bumping into an NPC in a convienience store; she says, "In England, we apologize for that" (yeah, really funny R*); I follow her at a distance, she says she's going to call the cops...sure enough, a one-star wanted level. I never hit her, never even pulled out a weapon. ...oh yes, and got a one-star wanted level driving a yellow gang Peyote past the police station. Other than stealing the car (with zero NPCs after me), and nothing wrong with my driving normally past the police station, it should have never happened...but it sometimes does, and it must be fixed. ...and then there are the four- and five-star wanted levels that come and go on their own while you're deep inside a tunnel, without moving...you'll get shot inside the tunnel by ghost police roaming around above the tunnel; can sometimes see NOOSE ropes and spotlights literally coming through the tunnel roof. Whomever at R* is responsible for this El Torro crap needs their butt seriously kicked...and seriously kicked some more. I often wonder if the Nazi-Terminator police aren't intentional from R* to encourage draining/usage of money via Lester's "Remove Wanted Level" (which also sometimes fails to remove all the stars, rendering it useless) and coerced purchases of the infamous "Super Heavy" sacks of Jell-O they like to pass off as "armor". Even past level 120, when you can store nine at a time, it takes very little to drain most of them in the course of a typical session. Which, BTW, you will instantly forfeit any "in use" (blue bar) armor if you exit Online or change sessions. And I thought only Watch Dogs was badly borked. Silly me. fefenc
....Several years later, GTA VI shows up a dumbed down police AI and people complains about it because V police AI was more challenging. I personally play GTA for its driving side and I hate rubberbanding/catch-up on this kind of game, it feels so unrealistic and stinky. Well, it feels like a lazy scripting, why add an efficient AI to our cops if we can rubberband them so they'll be always chasing the player and what about making the player's car wheels turn aside automatically when bumped at rear by a cop? Dude, it must feel like trying to escape from a Driver 1 chase at survival mode, with exception that our cars don't turn aside automatically on driver 1. The "pistol-sniping" isn't an issue or excuse to tar and feather the cops AI, it's much better than the dumb AI from IV that can't shoot us for f*ck sake. Or is it only you who can pistol-snipe people around. Casual players like you are what ruins nowadays games, what about stop crying and learning to shoot on the f*cking game? I can already see R* making the GTA VI cops AI like the groove street gangsters when they join with a CJ, an AI that literally misses 9/11 shots on a target that is 3 meters aways from them (detail: when you bump their cars, they hit the shots on you from 4127864 meters) Edited February 17, 2015 by fefenc

Aikor
I say they should have put the AI level between GTA IV and GTA V i mean look at this for eg.. In GTA IV cops are soo sluggish specially those fat ones and rarely gets a shot at me with a pistol..they are rly inaccurate considering they are experienced in pistol shooting since they are cops In GTA V though... cops are like marksman high ranked soldiers..they can even shoot u from a distance with a pistol like in watchdogs SWAT units.. Also in GTA IV cops are too slow and sluggish and they dont even use full speed when chasing me at high wanted levels..and even if they did(which is very very rare) they end up hitting a post..which is pretty dumb And in GTA V though cops are too challenging they are fast and aggressive..so i can say R* has gone a little bit above in AI difficultys..i say they shud adjust the level between GTA IV and GTA V Edited February 18, 2015 by Aikor MythAlex and Misunderstood
wapster
Once it hits PC, i'd like to see the LCPDFR folks have a crack at improving the AI. Braindawg
Why not just remove the value? Shouldn't cause any problems since it's a list of npc pools that can call the cops. oCrapaCreeper
I at least hope they fix this some day, next to animals reporting you: Though being arrested for talking to police doesn't really have much to do with the AI, but rather the interactions being bugged. Usually when you tap left on the d-pad near an NPC you will usually try to start a friendly conversation first (unless you're Trevor, who always insults by default), so the cop in the video above responds friendly. But there seems to be a bug where attempting to interact a second time often registers as an insult, even though the dialog your character says is friendly, so the cop ended up being threaten and busted the player. It happens with peds too where they will run away after a second response or try to fight you, regardless of what M, T, or F actually said.
