Laptop lagging

Hello I have a problem with my laptop. I had no problem occuring before until recently when I opened FIFA 14 and the game started lagging. I had only Skype opened so I closed it even though I never had problems ruling several games/programs at once while playing games.

Anyway the problem persisted so I restarted my laptop. After this, the game wasn't lagging anymore. It worked all fine.

I noticed tonight that GTA SA has a similar problem so I have no idea what to do. I use Auslogics to optimize the system and I am frequently defragmenting the partitions. I scanned for malware, no results.

Is it time to reinstall my Windows? I have this one for like almost a year or so.

My guess is either overheating or a program in the background.

As you might've noticed, laptops tend to run quite hot, and to stay within safe margin, certain components, like CPU, after reaching highest set temperature, drop their performance to allow said component to cool. If you've been using the laptop for quite a while, your laptop might have been warm enough already to quickly reach that point.

Oooorr, you might've had some program in the background eating your CPU/RAM.

I suspected it was my battery causing the lag and I was about right. I unplugged the charger then surfed around some forums while using the battery. Then I opened San Andreas and it was lagging as usual (kinda strange because before these events, I could run it properly without charger aswell). So I opened Task Manager and I checked if there's anything unusual. Obviously nothing wrong except a "Steam (32 bit)" process that was running without any reason. And that's because I have not Steam installed on my laptop, neither SA is ran through Steam so I have no idea what this process was doing there. It was not eating significant resources, but I closed it and Alt+Tabbed back in San Andreas. And it worked without any kind of lag (meanwhile I plugged the charger).

Okay so after that I tried another test, unplugged the charger again, Alt+Tab to Desktop then back to San Andreas and it was lagging again, not as bad as before though. I checked Task Manager again and no Steam process anymore.

Could it be my battery? I bought this laptop I think like less than a year ago.
