TimMiller
What do you think? I think the PC version is the most common system to play this game on and i also think that nearly 70% of the pc players pirated their game. Shame on me, i also pirated it in 2006 from a russian website a friend has showed me( whole game was on russian though, i was very young and couldn't afford the game lol) But later i got it for my XBOX because i couldn't handle the russian fonts and my pc was prettty crappy. Few years ago i bought the triology and got all 3 games for a nice price. Games like this are too good be pirated, we should support Rockstargames with every cent (even they are starting to mess up the whole series with GTA V ONLINE)
Pavle
I agree. A lot of people from my school (even me a long time ago) have pirated it. I got it on Steam in december.

Moos
I bought it for PS2 in 2004. Then bought it again for Xbox 360 in 2012. Than I wanted to play it on PC with decent graphics, so I bought it again during a Steam sale, but in the end I'm playing the pirated PC version, because I can't use my 360 controller on the steam version
helpplease
I pirated it in I think 2007 but I owned the actual game its just the disk got scratched.
Nah nah nah Gta 6
I pirated it I already have it on PS2 and I feel like it's not gonna affect R*'s profit as they've made a sh*t ton of money. And I also have no money.
Vice City criminal
Probably the most pirated GTA ever.
TheAverageAnarchist
One of the reason piracy is so high is because of Rockstar's sh*tty business practices. Most people just pirate it, because they don't f*cking insentivise buying it. A $15 price for the most unstable game in the series, and they patched it... But when they did, all they did was take sh*t away from players like music tracks, and made loading a lot of games very hard to do. They didn't even bother to fix some of the compatibility issues that the game suffers from. They deserve the high piracy rate. OG Viking
lil weasel
if the game is so bad, then why would anyone want to steal it? And, those thefts began long before the re-release. I also have to smirk at the excuses people come up with when they steal. Edited February 19, 2015 by lil weasel
BasicallyDrunK
In 2008, everyone in my school had it, pirated or not, so i went like WTF and pirated the game from an internet cafe on an USB stick.
OG Viking
70% piracy? Maybe 70% of players pirated the game in a small community, like a class or a neighborhood, but I think you can find the opposite too. I can't believe 70% of everyone who played the game pirated it, unless evidence is provided. 20% piracy? Yes. 30%? Maybe. I first bought San Andreas for PS2, later when it had become cheap I bought the PC version on DVD. It's full of glitches but I still think it's worth €17. But I would not have paid a cent for the Steam version! Edited February 20, 2015 by OG Viking
Gummy
I bought the PS2 disc and the PC dvd numerous times before due to it being a fake, scratched and all that. So yeah, I pirated it now.

What piracy is is copyright infringement and there is a debate as to what the hell that is, how long it should be and/or whether it should exist in the first place. Copyright wouldn't exist without a government making the rules. Theft however is a concept that has existed before government even came to be. IMO copyright of literature/creative works should be no longer than 10 years and that is being generous. OG Viking
lil weasel
Piracy isn't stealing. Nwhen you deprive a person of their just profits you are taking money away. Money used to pay wages, suppliers, vendors, investors, and future developments. That IS theft, just as if you took the game box off the shelf of the merchant. All Thieves make excuses... helpplease
Piracy isn't stealing. N when you deprive a person of their just profits you are taking money away. Money used to pay wages, suppliers, vendors, investors, and future developments. That IS theft, just as if you took the game box off the shelf of the merchant. All Thieves make excuses... It is not theft. The US court settled this ages ago: The phonorecords in question were not "stolen, converted or taken by fraud" for purposes of [section] 2314. The section's language clearly contemplates a physical identity between the items unlawfully obtained and those eventually transported, and hence some prior physical taking of the subject goods. Since the statutorily defined property rights of a copyright holder have a character distinct from the possessory interest of the owner of simple "goods, wares, [or] merchandise," interference with copyright does not easily equate with theft, conversion, or fraud. The infringer of a copyright does not assume physical control over the copyright nor wholly deprive its owner of its use. Infringement implicates a more complex set of property interests than does run-of-the-mill theft, conversion, or fraud. Also pirates do not deprive you of your right to make a profit. You as the creator can freely distribute and sell whatever game you want. Infact because you made the game you have a head start to do so. Furthemore, your argument is presuming that a pirate would have bought the said game and this cannot be proven. If anything its probably the opposite and the person wasnt interested in the game at all. Its very common for pirates to pirate a game and not even play it or play it for 5 minutes before getting bored and turning it off. Do you really think that all those downloaded DS roms really got played? BTW there is no correlation between a system being easy to pirate games for and lack of game sales. The 3DS and VITA have yet to be hacked and despite this the system sales for both, especially the VITA, are no where near the last generation. The attachment ratio is also significantly worse off. So overall your argument fails legally and theoretically/morally. Edited February 20, 2015 by helpplease OG Viking

There are legal ways to deprive someone of their profits too, so it's not theft. Thieves always have an excuse. In this case the "thieves" have a very good excuse, supported by a court settlement. I think it's wrong to call copyright infringement theft, but that doesn't mean I support such infringement.
