Vice City Stories tips

Thought I would make a topic for some tips:

Make lots of money without cheating- pretty simple- just own a few businesses then continuously save till it goes past 3:30, step outside, then back in and free money.

Gang system- You are always going to get chased down and shot on the second land but its better to be constantly chased down by the bikers than the the sharks so take out all the sharks businesses first then you will only get chased by the sharks, which are easier to deal with

You can use R3/start mission etc using a vigilante/paramdeic etc vehicle to stop a gang attack. Unfortunately I think sometimes the gang will take it over.

Buy only low adventure business, because they get attacked less frequently (so I am told) and money isnt an issue in the game

How to take over businesses easily:

Complete the firefighter mission. This itself is easy. Go to the airport and start the mission as far away as possible. Once done and on the second land. Buy the business next to the molotov spawn between the trees and near the beach. Run back and forth whilst saving to get as much as possible. Now you can just molotov the businesses to death without getting burned yourself.

Missions:

For Papi Dont Screach- Instead of heading east of the stadium where the main roads are just go south and follow the perimiter of the city past the the place when Vance was tortured in VC, to avoid most of the sentries.

Unfriendly Competition- stock up on rocket launcher ammo and grenades. Head immediately to the beach and lobby the grenades into the pool area whilst rocket launchering any women who are on a balcony.

Light My Pyre- One of the hardest missions of the game. Dont engage with the enemy cars, because your tires will be shot. Instead drive ahead of Lance and rocket launcher each enemy car.

Last Stand- pretty simple but when you get to the final floor- stand in the middle of the orange wall partition. When the helicopter stops shooting rocket launcher it but dont hit the plant!

The Exchange- if you find the sniper controls too sensitive use a rocket launcher instead, whilst standing on the car. Not only do you not need to be accurate but it will kill them even if they are hiding on the wall. After, drive the van up the slope and grenade the 2 cars that will come for you. Get back in and drive to Starfish Island via motorway.

Kill Phill Part 2- There is a bike immediately to your right inside. First time I played it I had no idea! ride the cycle through the entire building but dont fall off the stage. Avoid the armor spawn untill you are on the way back and you really need it. When you get to the final bit you wont have time to snipe them from distance. Just go Rambo.

Tune out Turn in, Bug Out- Once you have taken out the first transmitter- take the helicopter to the next station but do not land on it but instead the building next to it and which is higher up. The reason is there is a helicopter that will be waiting for you and will shoot you/and or the helicopter. Instead rocket launcher the helicopter first then the transmitters. Do the same again with the final station but fly the helicopter along the waters and onto Starfish Island to get a car. Cars on the street can be hard to come by but there are spawns on Starfish Island. Drive the car to the Pay'N'Spray.

Good tips.

"The Exchange"... Remember some horrible times attempting that get away. Usually beat it by pure luck of car spawn.

Sunrise Driver

I go slowly out of alley and as soon as enemy cars spawn, I back up, exit the truck and wait for them with Rockets.

Sniper part isn't so hard even for me (I ain't a fan of first person shooting with gamepad).

Unfriendly Competition....I just use the M249 that you get from 99 Red Balloons. Furthermore, I go onto the high dive where one of the bitches with an AK will spawn. From up there, they don't hit you as much. But they are still quite deadly. This mission prevents me from obtaining the AP Yola.

Furthermore, just do 99 Red Balloons and Molotovs and all these Weapons are given to you...

Yeah. I haven't done that mission in years but I specifically remember having serious problems with the car chase part (sniping was easy).

"Turn on, Tune in, Bug Out" is so easy. Use the helicopter but don't leave it after you've shot down all the antennas, just fly to the construction site nearby and grab that police bribe. With FBI out of the way, it's much easier to drive to Pay n Spray but the even easier alternative is to just go for another police bribe using the heli. There's one by the printworks which should bring it down to 3 stars which makes it not much of a challenge on land at this point. You can still avoid ground by grabbing the police bribe between the trailer park area and your house then land the helicopter outside your house and change your outfit to lose the remaining 2 stars.

Light my Pyre is not that hard. you just avoid shooting lance and when you get tho the mansion drive to the mall instead and all the enemies will fall under the blue hell.
P.S. If you wanna make it more easy complete the firefighter missions first.

Yeah the only problem with Light my Pyre is idiot Lance driving IN FRONT OF YOU while you shoot an enemy Vehicle. That idiot Lance is why the mission is challenging. If the devs didn't program him to drive in the line of fire, it wouldn't be hard at all...

Just make sure you drive ahead of Lance and when he catches up, move to the side of the Sentinels and do a driveby to the side. After the first three cars are blown up, if you continue to stay ahead of Lance, the rest of the attacking cars will not spawn. After that part, it's a piece of cake as you just have to hide behind the wall by the mansion to the right of the Mendez house and use grenades until the way is cleared so you have less enemies to make your way past then run into the house. There you can use a shotgun so Armando is down and unable to attack you then you can either keep using the shotgun or switch to something stronger like a minigun/M249 to finish him off in seconds.

Since we're on the subject of tips, it's well known that you lose your weapons at Burning Bridges when you take control of Vic in Viceport. Turn to the right and look at the wall far ahead and you'll find all your weapons right there. If you finish fast enough, you'll even see them in the final cutscene if you didn't pick them up. At that point, most of them will have disappeared and only two or three remains.

The PCJ-600 is EP/FP (Explosion Proof and Fire Proof) in Burning Bridges. You just kill Lance to fail the mission and drive it to a Garage. The way you kill him is like you said, you just go get your weapons which are against the wall to the right of you, lol...I always get my weapons right after the cutscene before I go into the area where I shoot all the guys...

Tune out Turn in, Bug Out, It's better to just get into the helicopter after destroying all the antennas, then flying over the bribe pickups until your wanted level has lowered, then get a car and get into P&S

I learned something last night that was very useful. You can finish the fire fighter missions without putting out any of the fires. All you have to do is start the mission and go into ammunation or a safe house then get back in and level 1,2,3,4 etc are done. Easy way to make decent money and get the immunity to fire.

You can also use the same trick to complete Hose them hoes

Another is there is a glitch that can teleport you to the second island whilst on the first. You know that ditch near the airport near the ramp and cop bribe? If you jump into the corner of the cylinder you can teleport to that golf club.

If you plan o taking over turf on the second island leave a few of the weaker gang buildings up. You'll see why. Stock up on ammo and cash, memorize the locations of health and armor spawns. Now go after the Sharks in one huge wave and hit them hard. Take as little breaks as possible. If you feel like doing other things attack one of the weaker gang businesses and make them come after you and not the Sharks. Now you can attack them again whenever you feel comfortable. Just remember to strike while the iron is hot and you'll be fine.

A BP/EP/DP vehicle would be very useful for this.Keep in mind that money is a huge factor here. It would be a good idea to complete some of the side missions that upgrade Victor before doing this. Try to get as little police attention as possible. Recruit a few people from The Vance Crime Family for some help. A 4 door vehicle is the smarter choice here.

When I took over all 30 Empires a few days ago, I simply just did it from West to East. Took over ALL Bikers on West Island. Then took over the remaining Biker Empires on the East Island. Then finished off the 11 or so Shark Empires. Not sure why you say do it all in one go, though. If you plan on playing for 6-8 hours in a row without taking a break, I guess this is doable. But once you have ALL Bikers and a few Shark Empires, the attacks will never end basically and you're gonna just have to save the game while an attack is going on. I just take all 30/30 over quickly and once it's done, the Sharks and Bikers NEVER attack you or your business' again...Then I go around and "repairing" all my business' which got hit by the Bikers or Sharks when I went to Save. Once you repair them, they are back up and running again at their fullest.

I actually never knew you could recruit those guys from the Vance Family. I always just do it by myself. M249 has 100 bullets per clip and it's all one shot kills. It's so easy taking over the Empires. Also, no need for Health/Armor or Gun/Ammo Pickups when ALL of this is at the Safehouse.......If you did 99 Red Balloons. Health is inside...

If you want, you can complete Air Rescue and that will unlock the BP/PP BF Injection for like 5000 dollars to buy. Also, once you take over 30/30 Empires, the Vehicles outside each business are fully BP/PP, as well...

There is some Drive-By Rampages in VCS. Those are really good when using a BP/PP Vehicle as no bullets will harm the Vehicle and the tires will never pop from spike strips or gun fire, either...However, I did all of these early for my Starter Save...

For 100%, though, you need 6 different Business Types since you need to do Business/Empire Missions. Protection Racket, Loan Shark, Prostitution, Smuggling, Drugs, Robbery. You need to do 15 jobs for the first 3 Business Types I listed and 6 jobs for the last 3 Business Types. If you pick just Smuggling, that's only 1 of the 6 Business Types you need to do Missions for. Plus, you get so much money which is 100% useless in VCS, basically.

Furthermore, I rather drive in my indestructible Yola Boat I obtained from Unfriendly Competition and my indestructible Sentinel XS I obtained from So Long Schlong. AP > BP/PP

Oh, I know you can change Business Types, but I like keeping all 6 around for ALL 6 BP/PP Vehicles spawning outside once 30/30 Empires are taken over. Besides, money is useless in VCS and you get tons so easily...

I just take over all 30/30 Empires when I unlock the East Island and before doing Turn On, Tune In, Bug Out. Which is after Hostile Takeover. I wouldn't even bother with Empires until that Mission is passed, anyways...

You also gotta know that playing to 100% isn't difficult for me anymore. It hasn't been for years and that is why I got into Special Vehicles and keeping my Stats perfect. Without the Special Vehicles, I probably wouldn't even play GTA cuz going for 100% doesn't do it for me anymore. VCS alone, I've done it 6 times to 100%. LCS? I am on my 13th playthrough to 100%. 12 on PS2 and now my first on iOS. This is all too easy these days.

This applies to practically every GTA game, but for those jumps that must be done with bikes (such as the one in the White Stallionz Bar) move slightly the analog forward.

All the other useful tips seem to have been already posted.

I tried the firefighter mission as helpplease said, by activating it then just going in & out of the downtown Ammunation, and it totally works (much easier a trick than acquiring a cop car in the original game, parking it in the garage, and activating the "destroy all cars" cheat to front load your money early on)! I don't know if it works in safehouses though, because the enter indicator for my nearest safehouse wasn't available. Still, this means I don't have to worry about outgunning Armando Mendez during 'Light My Pyre' (which I usually do, but now it's a lock). I'll also try that trick in which you can make the Mendez cartel disappear from the mansion after the Lance cutscene by going in and out of The North Point Mall. Man these GTA games are gifts that just keep on giving!

Achieving 100% - I highly recommend to do taxi, paramedic, vigilante, etc. side-missions before going too far in the storyline, you'll be kinda exhaust if you long to 100%, besides, it will help you several moments in the storyline.

Light My Pyre - Lots of people say this mission is hard because of horrible driving of Lance, I highly recommend get yourself a minigun or an M249 and take the Mendez goons out, or, get yourself armoured, a sub-machine able to drive-by and get infront of Lance, taking the Mendez goons out.

Light My Pyre(2) - When you finally arrive the Mendez mansion, you'll have a sh*tload of guards strapped with AKs and good accuracy, well, get over the mall in Vice Point, get inside and go out, they will be trapped in Blue Hell and you have a free way inside the mansion.

Empires - The Sharks are the most dangerous gang on the game, make sure you take over all their empires in the "beginning" of the storyline when the empires are unlocked so after in the game, you'll have no trouble later on.

Here are some what-to-dos I can suggest:

  • Do the paramedic, firefighter, taxi and vigilante levels after completing "Soldier". The rewards are really useful throughout your journey in the Vice City Mainland, especially the extra layer of body armor.
  • I would recommend completing all of the Air Ambulance levels and popping all 99 Red Balloons right after "From Zero to Hero". The extra health addition and the M249 can be useful in missions like "Unfriendly Competition".

Interesting, as I didn't know about that. HOWEVER, something easier is just running to the back of the Mendez Mansion and into the door where you face the goon with the Flamethrower (which is nothing when you did Fire Truck Level 15 in the beginning), since the moment you touch the area of entering the Mansion, those guys with AK-47's are no longer. They have very poor aim, too. I can literally run right by them to the back without them firing a single shot at me. You can hear the Rifles all around you, but their accuracy is piss poor and easy to avoid getting hit. I never even bother taking any of them out and just run to the back of the Mansion, lol

I would recommend popping all 99 Red Balloons right after "From Zero to Hero."

Why wait? You can do those Red Balloons right after Soldier. Granted, only 4 Weapons will spawn at Fort Baxter. But after Conduct Unbecoming and moving to the first Safehouse, 101 Bayshore Avenue, all Weapons will be there of course.

Like in THIS TOPIC I made a while back, you can reach 49.20% right after Soldier. Sadly, there is still TONS of Side Missions left in VCS that need to be done which physically can't be done until after "From Zero to Hero," like Beach Patrol, Air Rescue, Vice Sights, Fire Copter, anything with Helicopters/Planes, etc, etc. It's a tiring game, imo. Despite having nearly half of it done in the beginning, there is still about 20% worth of Side Missions in which you can't do in the beginning. The Story itself counts toward around 20% with 80% worth of Side Missions.
