Really, because i can see evidence to the contrary: link

When was the last time a rock artist achieved a platinum album, or had a song crack the Top 40. The best selling rock bands have stayed that way by almost doing away with the rock aspect. Here are the best selling albums of 2014:

Yes, those might be selling right now. Doesn't mean everybody loves them: proof

Yeah, that was before rock declined in popularity due to the rise of other genres. I'm not a rock hater, I love rock. I'm just pointing out that rock is no longer the most dominant genre.

@nightspectre: It's really impossible to tell what the future holds, so you can't tell how long the current trends last. But history is more reliable in that sense, because you can see decades back. And most of those people who listened to those artists have not changed their music tastes so much.

Rock isn't big now because it doesn't rock anymore. It has gone soft and no longer has the raw aggression that it used to have. It has been neutered. Rap is going the same way.

I think that there are always wonderful poppy songs like Chandeiler or The Heart Wants What It Wants that could fit. Latter would be great for abandoned part of town

You've played gta III too much! (There was some DJ claming that rock'n'roll sold out) Ofcourse some bands have sold out. So what! There are always bands that still haven't sacrificed themselves for popularity. And there are a myriad of bands out there.

It's just a part of the definition of popularity that's here oblivious: people think that current hot artists/ bands are saying what genre is popular, but I'm saying popular is what people actually listen to, be it old and bought a decade ago, or a new album. To top the alltime records, your music has to be timeless, classic. And I do enjoy other kinds of music than rock, beleive me.

To me rock is about music as much as it is about an attitude. I just don't feel that attitude in poppy squeeks and thumps. I mean no offence, but it's a whole other spectrum of feelings that come into play with other genres.

It's true though. The modern rock bands are some of the most soft and wimpiest stuff I have ever heard.

make total destroy

Why did you put that AWFUL Channel X in as your "hard rock" station? If anything, putting that in, west coast punk (formally known as "f*cking garbage") was an attempt to capture a "suitable" vibe for the game. Forget that, just give us variety and make sure that's variety of what we want.

Because the LA punk scene was HUGE, highly influential (even to bands outside the punk subculture), and gave birth to hardcore punk. It was also notoriously violent, so it definitely fits the vibe. If you don't like punk--from my experience, most people do not--that's cool, but it's really silly to dismiss it as "f*cking garbage", considering just how influential hardcore punk was to metal, grunge, indie, and hella other genres.

Is that really true tho? Why don't you back up your bashing with evidence of said things? It really is not so obvious to me that what you are saying is even in the same ballpark as the truth lies in.

The glorious thing about GTA is that it doesn't adhere to this real-world radio crap. In good games like VC and IV, most all genres were faithfully attended to.

The only games I complain about the radio in are not at fault for putting in "unsuitable" genres, they just don't have enough variety. V has three rap stations and NO metal? What the f*ck? Why did you put that AWFUL Channel X in as your "hard rock" station? If anything, putting that in, west coast punk (formally known as "f*cking garbage") was an attempt to capture a "suitable" vibe for the game. Forget that, just give us variety and make sure that's variety of what we want.

Would 2000's New York have a public access Regge or Death Metal station? Of course not, but who cares?

While I humbly disagree with your opinion on West Coast Punk, I will say that Channel X sucked because it's playlist was nothing but the well-known songs of the genre. Not that My War or Amoeba are bad songs but I think Rockstar should have searched for newer, and possibly lesser-known West Coast Hardcore tracks for Channel X, which I think would have felt fresher than making a station that was basically a "Best of 80's West Coast Punk" compilation.

Also, while not a Metal person I do think that V should have had a Metal station of some kind. It truly felt like Rockstar f*cked up when it came to V's soundtrack.

In my opinion, LCHC would have sucked if it was 'pure' Hardcore Punk all the way. I'm not much of a punk fan anyway, really hard to get into it (I don't really get punk), but LCHC had Metal Punk, or Crossover Thrash which was evident with some of the longer songs (Back To Back, Enforcer, Injustice System) which were really f*cking awesome. The station had the best of both worlds. Pretty good substitute for a Metal station.

Any station with only the most-well known songs would have sucked balls.

How about a good old 50's and 60's style rock'n'roll station? Artists like Elvis, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins?

I've never been a massive[i/] fan of this style of music, but it's something Rockstar hasn't ventured into before and would be nice to listen to for a change whilst doing 200 down the freeway and an army of police in foot.

Why not? However Mafia II already did that.
