Tikhung
Saw this thread on Reddit, one of the best thread I've come across on Reddit since I joined the website. I thought this would fit the general section http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/2vfzv8/whats_your_crazy_theory_that_you_have_no_way_of/ Some of my favorites: I believe that sometimes in life we die from accidents but our lives branch off to a parallel universe where we see our selves as having survived and meanwhile, in the original universe, people see us as dead. We can have many branches of this. That I have a mental problem and I'm the only one who doesn't know about it. My sister is only nice to me because I'm disabled, my friends feel bad for me because my parents told them. You know, the list goes on. It very well could be paranoia. The Universe and everything in it and all our memories were created last weekend. Dreams aren't just something our subcioncious generates while we recharge. They're something more than what we can comprehend or even observe. They're a gateway to the Great Beyond, a window the next life. Sometimes they don't make sense or the physics change, but when you enter REM sleep, your conciousness does in fact leave your body unless it's naturally time to power on or someone Force Starts you. The system is so well designed that the very small detection that you're about to be "woken up" is what triggers your conciousness to return to your body as you're still bound to it until it shuts down perminantly. That the human soul will age by acquiring knowledge. We start blank without knowing anything. Then we age and learn. After we die our soul gets reincarnated and keeps acquiring more knowledge. To me this explains why some people seem to have an old soul and know a lot. The soul will keep reincarnating and adding knowledge of each life it has had to it's collective knowledge causing the soul to expand until there is nothing left to learn. At this point actual death will occur and the soul will release it's energy to the universe causing it to expand. The paradox here is that the universe has created us so that we can further create the universe. What intrigues me is that the soul expands the same way the universe expands. Most religions say that god created mankind in his own image. I honestly feel that we are the universe and we created ourself to expand further. We are infact one entity trying to understand itself. Split a part in to billions of humans, animals, etc to each figure out a certain aspect of the universe so that the universe can understand itself. When this is complete the universe will stop expanding and the next big thing will happen. I created this theory myself by thinking a lot and taking bits from psychology, religion and philosophy. It makes me believe that the goal in life is to understand myself. Life comes waves. Have a sh*tty day? You're bound to have a great day some time in the future. I have never been on a set path of sh*t happening, and even when I was, there were many "lucky" things that happened during those events. My theory is that if you don't listen to a song all the way through after you've gotten to at least the chorus/hook, the song will more likely be stuck in your head than if you were to finish the song. It's like your mind doesn't have closure and needs to keep repeating the song. These effects can be reversed if you listen to another song without completing it. This all happens subconsciously of course, but I don't think the theory can be proven. Dingdongs, uncut751 and Alexander

Kampioen
God doesn't exist. This may not provable, but it's definitely not crazy. I mean, it's a lot crazier to believe he does True I guess, but that means most of mankind is crazy. I usually describe myself as agnostic leaning towards atheist. Anyway, now that I've mentioned this very obvious unprovable theory, let's not allow this thread to turn into a debate about the existance of God, and move on to some other unprovable theories. Vangelo
My is very short and simple but it's been in my head for a long time. I am a full catholic and I do believe in god but this is still always just a thought of mine. When you die you do go to heaven you just come back as another person. Really all of us were alive way back and when and have been alive since the creation of man but we just come back as different people with no memory of our old selves. So like when we watch old history documentaries we could just be watching us from the past Dingdongs

But think about it, there have been billions and trillions and other large imaginary numbers of people live and die over the years earth has had intelligent life on it. If youre a person of faith, this may fall in deaf ears, but logically speaking, think about this: where can all these people fit if there is an afterlife where we are supposedly meant to be reunited with those who have died before us who are being reunited with those who have died before them who are being reunited... You get the idea. Plus, mankind has been incapable to live in peace here on earth, if there was an afterlife, imagine the havoc that could be caused in a place where "ones soul is immortal". I cant believe that. TL;DR: I belive that humans are an accidential creation that came to exist from years of evolution, and i sincerely belief that all this afterlife bullcrap was created by us to help us cope with the possible fact that our lives here are meaningless; there is no reward after death for living a clean yet boring life, and there is no punishment for those who have dedicated their life to ruining others'. If there's no after-life, what does nothingness...feel like? Well, do you remember that feeling you sometimes got before you were born? No? Me neither. That's pretty much what nothingness is to an individual. That's the closest example there is. It's impossible to project nothingness mentally. Any representation of it that you can visualise will still involve various concepts from reality. It's the same thing as trying to imagine what a blind person sees. You may imagine a fully black picture, but black is still a visual stimulus. Edited February 11, 2015 by Black_MiD

Leave religion and atheism out of this, as i have.Isn't that pretty much the basic definition of atheism, though? No. I havent stated anywhere on this thread that there is no god, or higher power/ creator. Thats atheism. Beliefs in afterlife scenarios are not exclusive to religion, nor is it synnonymous with it. One can deny a gods existance and still believe in afterlife scenarios, like believing that ones life force, or soul, watever u choose to call it, is recycled in the form of reencarnation. Lets not turn this thread into an atheism vs religion battle. PinkRibbonScars and Fonz
