It is hard to imagine Vice City without 80's theme. Even VCS didnt take any risk and did a prequel. But in your view, if it wasn't 80s, then what would it be?

You don't have to choose only one time setting btw.

I chose the 70's, 2000s and 2010s.

I'd like to see it in the 80's BUT in 1989... You know, right when the 80's were drawing to a close. If any of you have watched Miami Vice, you'd know that in Season 5 (final season) the colors started to drift away from the pastel and light colors and were drawn in with more darker colors. It was kind of a "grungier" theme. The crime was still definitely there with the drugs, prostitutes, weapons, et cetera...

I'd like to see Rockstar take us back to Vice City with a completely different tone (a darker 80's tone). Remember how they took us to the days of "The Wild West" dying in Red Dead Redemption? I'm sure they could make an excellent GTA game set in the days of the 80's coming to an end.

Here's a little example of the early days of Miami Vice (1986) compared to the tone of the final season (1989). Sonny Crockett rocked pastel colors in the early seasons but during Season 5 his clothes were replaced with sport jackets (but darker colors) and jeans.

Sam Houser even hinted that he watched Miami Vice (a lot) during the development of Vice City.

Nah nah nah Gta 6

As much as I love VC and the 80's vibe it has, I don't think the 80's will have the same affect as it did when VC was released.

We've been there and done that, times change, and I want a modern day VC than a 80's one in GTA 6.

1980's would be amazing with the new consoles as well in PC. If it ends up being present day (somewhere around 2017-2020 when a new game is released) I'd be happy with that.

There's literally no point in having VC in the modern era. Why the hell would you want to go from a sunny beach filled with self centered pricks to a sunny beach filled with self centered pricks? They can get away with it if they set it in a different time period because the people will be much different.

You are wrong on so many levels. I live in Miami, FL (coconut grove). Where do you live?

A modern-day Vice City would be pretty cool too. Look up videos of "driving through Downtown, Miami to Miami Beach. Imagine that in HD on a freaking video game. It would blow IV's Liberty City and V's Los Santos out of the water.

I don't care if you're the f*cking mayor of Talahasse. rockstar would portray it the same and it would be the same sunny beach vibe. Just because "YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND MIAMI IT'S MODERN LOL" no sir you're wrong Rockstar would have sh*t material because what the f*ck is so interesting in the next few years that will create a cultural shift? The peds will be taking selfies and they would be hating liberals. Same sh*t.

Go play GTA IV if you're so mad.

I'd like to see Vice City in the 1880s, thank you very much.

I didn't realise cowboys enjoyed sunbathing. I know this is highly in-accurate, but meh. When I think of the 1880s I think of the Wild West and this is the best thing I could come up with.

Anyway I'm with Stoney on this one. I don't think an 80s VC would have the same impact as VC did in 2002. In ways I think it's hypocritical how some people say they don't want another modern GTA, but are perfectly fine having the same city in the same time setting that's already been done twice?

I think it's only logical if VC gets a HD makeover that it's modern like LC and LS. A lot of the vehicles and technology introduced with GTA IV and GTA V would be lost if it went back in time. I mean I love VC as much as the next person, but to me there's only one original.

I even think VCS kind of pushed the limit of revisitng the 80s again. I was still a good game, but completely lacked the soul and charm VC had IMO. To me it took a whole heap of unique elements to make VC the way it was. Trying to replicate that again could be a disaster and come under heavy scrutiny.

I was still a good game

Nah, you were a terrible game. Worst GTA in the series IMO.

Sorry, couldn't resist. :p

I'm the best GTA game there is. Even better than GTA IV and VC.

I'm not with you guys here, at all. A modern day interpretation of Vice City would be boring. Go vintage or go home. I don't want to see some sh*tty old folks home with the same Spanish descent guy shouting f*ck ME IN THE ASS except in a Cuban accent.

80's Miami was a crazy cultural time documented in popular culture, in films like Scarface, Miami Vice and bunch of other things. That's Miami's main selling point for me. It's a retirement city that's not culturally relevant any more except for a Electro movement thats coming out of there at the moment.

A modern version of Miami seems boring to me. 3 modern GTA's in a row is really boring. It's not like Miami-now will be remembered for anything by future generations.

Same with the San Andreas thing. It was a city going through a massive cultural change/movement, LA Riots, Bloods & Crips and Gangsta Rap was a huge worry amongst parents. That;s died down now and all we have to worry about is reality TV and shows like Pop-Idol... as documented in GTA.

So Rockstar has gone from setting games in times and places where there was a huge culturally exciting movement, riddled with crime to just having modern games satirizing the present. Not so exciting if you ask me.

So to answer your question... I'd rather see Vice City done in the 80's with current-gen graphics etc.

If the next GTA is going to be modern-ish even, I want it set in a new city we haven't seen like Baltimore and if people liked the more mature feel of IV, then base the game off The Wire, the most realistic crime show you'll find.

If you think Scarface is exaggerated, you are mistaken. Watch this. It will also make you wanna play Vice City again.

Vice city, and by extension Vice City Stories was made for the eighties. I would like a modern take of it for a very iteresting counterpart.

exactly what i think. its a known fact that vc belongs in 80s, yes thats true. but there is no harm in exploring other timelines with this city.

Anyway, what race would you like to play as in an 80s Miami? What background should the protagonist have?

i too, think that the atmosphere and setting was the greatest, but.. it didnt shine or was really really fun as vcs. its not really about the graphics, its about the feeling. and if you play 5 ps2 gta games in chronological order, you will hate vc for being only an expansion pack for gta3, and underdeveloped in everyway..

The setting for VC was superb, however if we couldn't have the 80's I would have opted for the 50's or 70's.

There was nothing in the 50s miami, the crime and cocaine kicked off around the late 70s so it would only make sense to do it in the 80s Rockstar even said it themselves

The Deadite

We visited Vice City in the 80's TWICE today's scene in Miami is really something worth of gta.

So Rockstar has gone from setting games in times and places where there was a huge culturally exciting movement, riddled with crime to just having modern games satirizing the present. Not so exciting if you ask me.

IV took place in modern times and wasn't a satire. Edited by Midnight Hitman
