Spaghetti Cat
Probably gonna take over the anchor slot at NBC news. Heck just swap shows with Brian Williams. Network news is a joke, and Williams wants to be a celeb anyways. Works for me. darthYENIK
The end of a era. I hated how he took the Daily Show into a more political tone, but in the end he did great things with it. Vik

esmittystud101
He should just skip trying to be Governor of Senator in whichever state he chooses, probably a home town and go straight for the 2016 Presidentail Election. I would vote him in. I really don't think it would happen this coming 2016 election. But in the future I can totally see this happen. He would get the popular vote by a landslide. Wouldn't be outside the realm of possibilities for NBC to do the same thing again. For a time Daily Show was must watch, but that era has passed. Best of luck to Stewart in whatever future endeavors. Svip
Before Jon Stewart leaves, Comedy Central is streaming all episodes of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. We are 15.5 hours in, and it's the episode for 30 March 1999. Only 41 days to go. What a time to be alive. El Dildo
9/11 episode is still the best one he ever did. Oxea
Svip
Perhaps, but there is something amazing about watching a time capsule of the last 16 years as told by The Daily Show. Having seen the 9/11 episode, these other episodes are still more interesting to me. Not individually, but together like this.
El Dildo
right the 9/11 episode sticks out because it was 100% off-script. they didn't write anything that day. everyone was depressed but we all tuned in and unexpectedly watched as Jon Stewart basically matured in front of our eyes, from the guy who writes dick jokes about the news, to one of the most trusted Liberal spokesman in the entire country. Svip
Just FYI, it will soon be the 10 September 2001 episode on the stream. For non-US residents, you can use this link to watch the stream.
darthYENIK
Watched the episode. Very nice to see the old correspondents. Wyatt Cenac's appearance was nice, with what supposedly went down. Colbert gave a heartwarming speech. Craig Kilborn appeared for a second. And of course, Jon perfectly summed up his run with his monologue about bullsh*t. I hope this show doesn't change much. But I sense that it'll never be so good. Edit: oops, forgot the "Boss". El Dildo
I had tears in my eyes when Stephen Colbert delivered his off-script message to Jon on behalf of the staff. they never catch Jon off guard, they never get a chance to really thank him for everything he's done for all those people. but he was shaking and squirming like a child in that moment. ugh this sucks. it truly is the end of an era especially for young people. he's gotta' move on but I don't want to... I'll watch Trevor's version and see where it goes but the Daily Show had become an institution in our lives because of the editorial voice and artistic direction of Jon Stewart's vision. I hope that Trevor Noah finds his voice and the show remains largely what it was; an integral and powerful platform that allows us to filter through the chaotic bullsh/t in our world in order to find perspective and better come to grips with what seems like constant bad news and political chicanery. it's gonna' be a rough transition. at least John Oliver is still on HBO to help carry us across the void. Creed Bratton
it's gonna' be a rough transition. at least John Oliver is still on HBO to help carry us across the void. He's a lot of fun in his own way but he's not as down and dirty as Jon and he doesn't rip politicians to shreds, which is always fun. El Dildo
true but I would also argue that Oliver has actually been a lot more successful in terms of affecting the issues he champions on his show, compared to Stewart, who is more of an emotional outlet and conversation starter than deal-closer. which is not his fault it's just his format. Stewart is on nightly, Oliver is only on weekly, which gives Oliver the advantage of context whereas Stewart is always just reacting to the whims of the last 24 hours. Stewart gets just 22-23 minutes to make his pleas. censored. interrupted by commercials. Oliver does literally whatever he wants. don't get me wrong, Stewart's influence cannot really be overstated. and naturally Oliver wouldn't exist without him. but his largest impacts usually have to do with idea-campaigns and movements, less legislative impact. as he pointed out in one of his recent final shows that I'm sure you watched, he's pointed out that in some key regards the country is actually worse off now that he's leaving than before he started. he hasn't really been able to affect the gluttonous cycles of money corruption/big business/big politic/blatant lies/Fox News etc etc. they're all going just as strong - if not stronger - than when he began railing against them on a daily basis. in Oliver's just 2 seasons on HBO he's managed to bring about some serious real world impact. Last Week Tonight spurs huge donations to the issues and charities it highlights (as well as candidates), their audience has managed to crash financial and terrorist websites, they've boost massive following into otherwise unknown social welfare campaigns, and inspired real legislation at the state level. HBO is great. just like with their Vice shows. it's pretty amazing what you can do with just 30 minutes of uncensored, undiluted, and unadulterated truth.
