Coin Posted February 10, 2015 Share Posted February 10, 2015 C&C Knes's Wrath was a Standalone DLC. You can compare C&C3 with FO3 and Kane's Wrath with NV. Just because they dont advertise it as an Standalone Expansion, it basicly is. Just like BC2 Vietnam was an expansion to BC2. A proper new game would include some major new mechanics and gameplay improvements. E.G. GTA3 -> GTA:VC -> GTA:SA Ballad of Gay Tony or TLaD were DLC but you could have sold them as standalone though. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is another example. It was a Standalone DLC even as it had a totally different theme/setting. Again: Just because they did not advertise is as Standalone DLC, thats what it is in my eyes... If it would have been a proper new game they would have called it FO4. None of your comparisons even work here. "Major new mechanics and gameplay improvements" is an interesting way to determine things. With that, just about every game in a franchise after the first can be considered stand-alone DLC. Far Cry 1 -> was a huge step and developed by a different developer too. 2 to 3 was almost as big of a change. And yes, FC4 is called a reskin of FC3 by many others too. I saw quite some gameplay and it really is. I havent played the last few NFS games but they are racing games. You cant change that much on them. But even there you have the jumps from open world to linear and so on. Thats the whole problem of the industry currently. Noone has the balls to actually try something new. In this time of day developers try to play it save and lean to much on their first succes. It's risky to make a total new 'never seen before' game. Also I want a new map and with a Skyrim 2 you would have at least the same climate and look of the map. I mean I really like it but I want something new from a new TES game. It just sucked if you wanted say... Legion wolf hat. It counts you as Legion and NCR attack. If they bring that back, they should only count a "disguise" as a FULL outfit. Iron sights, traits, the skill point system, perks, crafting, weapon modifications, hardcore mode, shooting mechanics, the SPECIAL system, skills, ammunition types, unique weapons, the faction system, karma, reputation and gambling mini-games were all either added or fundamentally modified in NV. It used the same engine, some of the same textures and meshes, and that is about it really. Anyone who casts it as "stand-alone DLC" either hasn't played much of it or doesn't understand the concept of DLC. It will almost definitely not take place in Skyrim. It will probably take place in Summerset Isles, home of the high elves, since they were manipulating so many things in Skyrim. Then going by what Sivi said, you don't understand the concept of DLC, which seems about right. Anyway, I'm with the people saying Doom/TES:O. For some reason I just don't trust any possibility of an announcement of FO or TES, at least this way. I already gave a few examples of standalone expansions for other games.
