PS4 is up to almost 20 million now, regardless of the specifics we agree there are still a lot of PS3's out there and it's hard to believe R* will ignore them. But my original point was I cant imagine why someone would buy a next gen machine just to play games

 

The graphics improvement in the PS4 is roughly 7x the PS3 while the PS3 was about a 75x GFLOP improvement over the PS2. So compared to the last generation change it's a barely noticeable improvement. Sure more RAM means larger worlds, more players etc..., but the next gen machines are media machines that need to be connected to a network to take advantage of. Buying either one of these and not paying for the online access is like buying a nice car without a motor.

 

Your not buying a machine with your next gen purchase, your buying a network.....

 

Yep I agree R* should still support the wider play-base that last-gen/PS3 has, even though I have PS4 I am still playing GTA on PS3, I've already gave R* money for the same game twice for PS3/360.

 

As for your original point. I got a PS4 for games. Now when you link together Online multiplayer/Plus/other services, you are kinda bundling everything into one whole package that doesn't belong to each other.

 

I got the PS4 for games and games related features such as Remote Play, be it Single Player or Multiplayer, probably more multiplayer when thinking about it. The other media/other non gaming experiences are bonuses. However your points about not paying for Online and "media machines" are kinda contradictory. probably unintentional. Plus subscription doesn't cover media apps, so if you don't pay for Plus you aren't locking yourself away from other areas of the system that aren't games.

 

I do agree with you though, your next gen purchase is a network as well as system. It's whether the purchasers decide to utilise the network side of things to a greater extent than the system. If they don't want to, it doesn't mean they have made the wrong decision, it just means they don't care about the other non games-related content they would rather call bloat-ware.

but srs now. who cares if its not out on PC. It will be soon and in the mean time some of us are multiplatform so we aint missing out on anything. Unlike you that would rather just try to poke holes in others logic we get the best of everything. Especially on PC where 1 month old AAA titles get sold for $20 while consolers are paying 120 lmao. On Topic: Just an attempt by Sony to try and secure more PS+ subscribers, but still, good to see

 

Off Topic: The biggest thing for me being in Australia is a PC that performs similarly to a PS4/Xbone would cost around 800 AUD (PS4 was 468 AUD). You would need to spend 1000 - 1200 AUD to actually get significantly improved visuals and smoother (higher FPS) game play. Also Digitally Downloading games (to take advantage of Steam sales for cheaper games) needs to be balanced against the possibility you may require additional Internet Usage Data.

 

In my case I would require a higher tier Plan to Download (for example) 2 AAA games a month, potentially requiring up to 100 GB of Download Usage. This Usage Jump would cost around $20 extra a month (as it would be moving to a 500 GB or Unlimited Plan not 200 GB as I do not Download that much).

 

Overall my initial outlay would be 600 - 700 AUD more to get a (decently) superior PC over a PS4, which if you shop around is already the cost of 8 - 9 AAA Games at Release. Also I got Watchdogs PS4 for $23 pre-owned Yesterday (EB Games) so waiting for Console AAA titles also results in cheaper prices.

 

There is no single advantage or dis-advantage to either than makes them a better option.

So when I got my PS4 I had a gift card for a 3 month Plus subscription. That subscription ended on February 5th. Sony extended everyone's Plus for 5 days cause of the outage. So it actually ended today. So I log onto GTA:Online and see I have a 2 day trial for plus. So that will keep me until Thursday. I'll wait til Friday to get the free Plus event...then buy a year Plus subscription on Monday.

 

Yay me! Hopefully I can find it for a discount.

I'm playing the single player of GTA first before online.

 

First game I played Shadow of Mordor, didn't need it.

 

If by streaming media you mean like BBC I-player, my 360 does it free, not tried it on PS4 yet. If you mean Amazon Prime, I have my laptop as always have done.
