CarlitoDorito
The 2nd one in San Andreas took a long time, It was called the "beat the cock challenge". Good old GTA humour there. dtsmucker
The Green Sabre
How could people defend tapping one button for almost 30 minutes? It's not fun and it's most certainly NOT challenging, it's a complete test of your patience with no reward in the end. Hell, how come people aren't complaining about the lack of an reward? That's a total middle finger to whoever bothered to finish that crap. Seriously, was the person who designed the triathlons lazy or spiteful? CarlitoDorito
^^ game developers are anything but lazy, calling devs of games (not just GTA) lazy, is disrespectful. Making games takes a long time, it's not "easy" as so many internet experts put it. Coding, testing, debugging, designing, it's not something just anyone can do, a lot of devs leave because it's tedious work. I think it takes a while because the map is huge, the San andreas one took about 15 minutes to complete, for no reward. The reward is most likely meant to be a sense of achievement, like beating a high score, although Anything without a reward is pointless now isn't it. The Green Sabre
^ For something as long and tedious as that triathlon, yes it SHOULD have had a reward. If the triathlons in San Andreas gave you rewards, why couldn't the ones in V do so as well?
killahmatic
That triathlon is less difficult than it seems. Its really easy to catch back up if you start out slow. Pain in the butt no matter what, though.
jamieleng
Hopefully I'll be able to just hold run in FPV when I get to that part on CG. My mind's gone blank, does V have TBOGT style parachute, boat,car/bike triathlons? Edited February 10, 2015 by jamieleng

El Zodape
They should have made it so you only need to hold X (or whatever button it is on Xbox) during that specific moment in the game, rather than tap it like a maniac for 30 minutes straight and break your thumb in the process. Shaundi.
Took me 28 minutes something to complete. The rubber-banding AI were annoying.

jweaver
The worst thing, accidentally pressing right to quit after 25 minutes of tapping X/A. There's no "are you sure you want to quit" so never try turning the bike light on! I did it in 27 minutes. I did exactly the same..... Figured i was the only person alive who was stupid enough to do this..
MrDeSanta
Not only this whole 30-minutes long button mashing is stupid, it`s also bad for health. My hand was dead after that. I can imagine it`s very bad for all the nerves in the tissue of fingers and hands. As long as you don`t have full stamina it`s somehow OK due to you need to time it right and watch out you don`t run out of stamina but once you have it full, then it`s all about stupid button mashing. Oh and stupid heavy scripted NPC rubber banding.
CarlitoDorito
I may have tried turning the light on the bike at least twice... First person can help with the thumb ache, only needing to hold X or A or I'm guessing the space bar? is easier, but the triathlon may be harder. mszigeti
lol i didn't expect these responses, thanks for sharing my pain I did this with full stats (at least the ones that matter like stamina), and it wasn't a help at all, it really is just button smashing, i don't think i'm going to try it again, complete waste of time. BTW, i've enjoyed every single side mission in this game, even the previous triathlons (as long as they're short), still loving the game. _Klebitz_

woggleman
I think in first person you can just keep your finger on the button instead of mashing it but it is a stupid mission. Even I can't defend this one. The Green Sabre
WRATH_OF_POWER
^^ I made the same misteak. )-: I f*cking rage quit hard after that. lol. And to answer the OP, the third triatholon takes about 30 minutes to complete. Yeah, I remember the last Triathlon, 30 minutes of button mashing
PoeticWhisper
FP mode, traditional FPS control scheme. 100% Stamina = Press the left stick in once and good for the whole swim. Get on bike, Hold A never ending bike sprint. On foot, left stick, never ending sprint. Its gonna be easy here. On LG, it was torture.

L0SS4NT0SK1LL3RV
When i was in 15 minutes i left the race by mistake because i pressed right d-pad, i've seen a kind of rage inside of me i never knew it existed, then i tried again and got gold medal. monkb4skunk
The side missions in this game absolutely suck. Their design is so lazy. Like with this stupid triathlon, it`s just a button mashing, no techniques or anything, just tapping the button for 30 minutes. I`ve only did it once and never again. It`s like every side activity in V feels so pointless. There is alot to do but neither one of these activities doesn`t feel interesting to do. Just for killing the time nothing else. Just look at how many pointless crap is in this game. Triathlon, yoga, tennis, tow trucks, paparazzi, boring busines missions, submarine parts, nuclear waste, spaceship parts, letter scraps, monkey mosaics... Like wtf! After you do all these sh*t you realize it`s so boring, pointless and unrewarding and you have a feeling that you actually wasted a week of playing- it takes about 1 week doing all this bullsh*t if you play only 1-2 hours per day. I have absolutely no interest in any of V`s side activities. Even the bail bond and arms trafficking become boring quite soon. That`s why i said this GTA has the lowest replay value. You can finish the storyline in couple of days and after that you realize there`s nothing interesting to do anymore Except for creating havoc which i`ve been bored of a long time ago already. Despite how big the world actually is, the map feels lifeless and dull. you realy need to piss off and play somthing else then you can bich and moan about every little detail of that game. Stop coming on a forum every hour for a game you don't like you cynic . And yes that triathlon mission was a bitch (almost as much as this guy^)
Vertighost
Can you create triathlons in GTA Online?, haven't played online in a long time, but I remember how frustrating the bicycle races were with actual humans. Also unknowingly joining a car race, around in circles at the airport with something like 50 or 100 laps all with people speaking a language I can not understand. Hvitdverg
dude, tell me about it! The first time I did this mission, I crashed at 27 minutes, towards the end where you pull into the HOTEL, there was a f*cking pedestrian blocking the way, I hit him and since he died I got mission failed.. So I spent in total 60 f*cking minutes doing the triathlon, such a pain in the ass really
XIII-V-XIX
Think I'm one of the few strange folk who actually liked the triathlons, even the last one. Nice throwback to San Andreas.
WillyDope
I actually enjoyed it as well...must say it didnt feel as long as it actually was...and once you get to the on foot portion its a breeze all the other competitors just started walking and I just ran...stamina never depleted
Lock n' Stock
I much preferred the Triathlons in TBOGT. Base jumping, speed boats and fast cars with nitro. Too much running in GTA V's Triathlons. Cutter De Blanc and matajuegos01
thatstupidbug
creating a (non crime related) side activity it's ok creating a LONG side activity it's still ok if it's fun and/or challenging creating a LONG side activity that is not fun but neither challenging is... a waste. do you know what a rubber-band AI is? Basically, the better you play, the better the AI become, always 1-upping you in everything until you lose (or you win by a little margin). In GTA V the last triathlon is horrible paced, forcing you to always stay behind no matter how long you destroy your thumb, and then practically handling you the vicotry on a silver platter by totally STOPPING in the last third of the course. The whole thing is also horribly glitched, with (according to GTA wiki) the opponents in GTA V's triathlons use a catch-up/rubberband AI system, meaning that they will regularly catch up on you or gain the lead momentarily regardless of your speed or tactics. On occasion however, especially in the Coyote Cross Country Triathlon, the system will glitch out and one or more opponents will receive a massive speed boost, shooting several checkpoints ahead of you. Do not let this fool you into thinking the race is lost, they will slow down during the final leg. So, i have no problem if you have fun with this, more power to you. But you can't say that a minigame is well done if it 1) trow every tactics outside the window 2) openly cheats 3) it's basically a 30 minutes interactive cut-scene, when you can hardly change the outcome until the end 4) it's glitchy 5) worst of all, doesn't give you any reward, but forces you to take part in it if you want the 100% achievement. In San andreas the two Beat the cock challenge are entirely optional, you can finish them either by respecting the rule or cheating/thinking outside the box (like a TRUE sandbox), the opponents cheat less (depending on your fat and stamina), and you have some sort of reward (some clothes) ... I think it's objective that the triathlon challenge in V is REALLY flawed.
