R.I.P( favorite consoles remembrance thread )

So it finally happened, my ps2 played it's last game :( After 8 years of solid gaming it's heart gave out and produced it's final sounds and images

What were those sounds and images ? Vice city ! Yeah that's right ! It really was perfect, I was running down an alley way to escape the cops and the screen went all ''90's VCR '' that's the only way I can explain it, it was like watching a movie on the vcr when the tapes getting chewed ! than it went all black and I heard the cop sirens fade !

Vice city is my baby and the ps2 is my wife so it was nice having the family together one last time, I was only thinking to myself minutes before the event '' man I can't believe we're all still together after all these years the vice city disc was preowned ffs ! 8 years, it's a long time !

That ps2 though, We have been through up's and downs highs and lows, I was still in highschool when I bought it, that feels like a life time ago now !!!!

My ps2 lived a long and happy life, we played all the gta's, we took on the sports world ! we raced cars ! we even made beats together ! so many classic moments !

So many fun times playing games with my friends, so many classic memories !!!!!

So here's too you ps2, you will be remembered you are a legend and above all else you were a trustworthy machine,

now I want to open the floor to everyone to say their peace for their fallen consoles

Where do I start...

Console memorial:

SEGA Genesis

1997 - 1998, unknown cause.

EA / Panasonic 3DO

1997 - 2000, retard cousin tripped over it and broke it along with my The Need For Speed disc.

Sony PlayStation (2X)

1997 - 1999, unknown cause.

1997 - 2001, unknown cause.

Countless NES and Genesis knock-offs:

1997 - mid 2000's, various reasons.

Sony PlayStation 2:

2001 - 2007, unknown cause.

Microsoft Xbox 360

2012 - 2012, smashed against wall when it refused to read my pirated Saints Row disc. To think I paid 30 Euros for that piece of junk.

Nintendo Wii U

2010 - 2010, sold it to a friend for 150 Euros. He is a retard you see, so he probably broke it as soon as he got home.

PC memorial:

None. Whenever one of my PC's broke I'd repair it or replace the broken component. I still have every PC I've ever owned, minus the monitors cause I don't have a damn warehouse.

Other memorial:

Nokia 1100

2003 - 2014, forgot it in my trousers and put them in the washer. It wasn't the first time but I guess even the Nokia 1100 has it's limits. Never forget.

I don't even want to think about the amount of time I spent playing that console, If I could find out, I would have too but I would be terrified of the answer ! I've probably spent a year of my life playing that machine, not a very smart investment on paper but I had fun so it is what it is, edit: I remember I had a 150 hour san andreas save file, and just that alone is 6 and a quarter days........... f*ck that's bad........ When you see it in front yourself like that it really puts things in perspective, Sure I had fun and theirs always that argument, but that is a shameful thing !

Long live the PS2.

80GB PS3 (2007-2014). Yellow Light of Death. The only console I had to actually give out on me.

There went $600 and a lot of memories.

7 years, not bad. I went through 3 360s before I upgraded to the slim model. Shows you the difference between a hardware company and a software one. Edited by DarthShinobi

You won't see a single N64 in this thread.

I've had my PS2 for probably 9-10 years and even after months of collecting dust it will still start up perfectly

Had two 360's die within 10 months though. For the first few years they were a joke

Nintendo - Finally got tired of blowing on cartridges to get them to work. Only had one console too. It was good though when it worked right.

Super Nintendo - Only had one of these as well. Nothing was ever wrong with the console though. I mean nothing. Didn't have to blow on cartridges to get them to work even to this day. I have a funtioning console at my grandmas house. I played it this past Sunday and I forgot how tough George Forman boxing was. Real tough.

N64 - Only had one of these bad boys too. Never had any issues with this console as well. Goldeneye 007 is probably my all time favorite linear FPS. Back then if you wasn't on PC you really didn't have much to choose from. Goldeneye 007 changed the landscape to make what we have today.

PS2 - Had three of these pieces of sh*t. I liked the console and all, but they were junk. I think the disc readers went bad most of the time from playing DVD in them. Fun games, horrible console when it came to reliability.

Xbox - Had only one. Great machine. It did everything my PS2 wouldn't do. Like play music that was downloaded on the HDD from a disc while playing a game. All my PS2 frends would come over and be like, "How are you playing music right now?" I had only one answer for them. "Xbox baby". Graphics right on par with the PS2 if not better. Plus, it was a really reliable machine.

Xbox 360 - Had three of these, the first two was crap, the third is a beast and still runs great. The first one died from the Red Ring of Death. So I took it back to Best Buy, they gave me in store credit to go get a brand new one right in the store, no waiting. So when I got it they suggested I got a fan for it as well. So I did. Well......a year or two after that I was trying to take the fan off that hooks in the back of the console. It would not come off. The only reason I was trying to take it off was to clean dust out from all of it. So I kept trying to take it off, it finally came off, along with the prongs that are connected to the back of the 360. So I had no prongs to hook a power cord into anymore. I tried to take it back to Best Buy, that sold me the extra warranty. They said the fan voided the warranty. So no refund. They were the ones that suggested I got the warranty in the first place. Really p'ed me off something fierce. So now I currently have a black 250 GB one that still runs great.

Xbox One - I had alot of fun with the console at launch. It just did alot of things that I wasn't used to....like really fast. You mean I can go from a game to Netflix to another app in a matter of seconds. Then go back into the game later, even the next day sometimes and it be in the same exact spot I left the game, right in the middle of a mission or whatever. Great feature. I added an extra 4 TB external HDD that just plugs in a USB port and formats, ready to go. I love You Tube app as well, on the console and I can connect with my smartphone to search for videos and such. So cool. The controller battery lasts forever too. Compared to its competitor, last atleat 3 to 4 times as long. I still play Forza Horizon 2, Trials Fusion, Sunset Overdrive.

PS4 - I bought this console in July. I was getting tired of seeing exclusive games come out for it and I couldn't play on Xbox One. The Last of Us Remastered especially. So I bought one. Great console. I got rid of that teanie, tiny, 500 GB HD in it though, replaced it with a 2 TB HDD, now I never have to worry it there is enough room or not for memory. Love the games and the controller. The battery doesn't last long. But a 10' charge cable that was $5 at Walmart fixed that. The cable that came with the PS4 is way too short. I was also getting way tired of the console wars at the time which almost died off by then but still annoying. I can't say anything though, I was one that argued "my console is better than yours". I just got tired of it. So pretty much, "If you can't beat them, join them." So I did and been happy ever since.

It was so funny though, as soon as I bought the PS4, the console war on forums died. Still, I'm happy I bought the PS4. Its awesome.

Xbox 360 (2007-2007) - Literally lasted about a month, played the hell out of Guitar Hero 3 since it was my first time ever trying out a game like that as well as it was the "next-gen" console of that generation after years of gaming on the PS2. I did send it for repairs but I never turned it back on since I got it back, it's currently on top of my cabinet as a memorial (Not even sure if it still works or not) I do currently have a new one which I got back in 2012.

Original "Fat" PS3 (2008-2012) - Played it nonstop, one day my TV finally wore out and stopped working so I moved the PS3 to the living room for a couple of days until I can get a replacement... I was eating near it and I accidentally spilled water right on it. Tried doing anything I can to revive it only to hear short beeps every few hours, sometimes even weeks.. finally buried it and got a replacement Slim a month later which I still own to this day.

PC (2003-2004) (2004-2008) (2008-2008) (2009-2011) (2011-2013-14) (2014- ????) - Seems like I have the worst luck with PCs, most memorable one (and most recent) was the gaming PC I built from scratch in 2011 with a 6970 at the time... it was my first high-end gaming PC after sticking with laptops and $500 PCs for years. Mid December of 2013 while playing Bad Company 2 I suddenly heard a pop followed by sparkles and then it shut down, my PSU exploded.. got a new one around February, skip to December 2014...... Water Cooler for my PC broke which led to it overheating quickly and ultimately dying on me, that's when I had enough and went for a laptop again with specs almost 5x as better as the gaming PC. It survived last December, hoping this December will be smooth sailing as well.

you had a 3do? ewww

Relax, I didn't buy it. I had an uncle that used to work in... something, import I guess? I don't know, but he's to blame for my gaming addiction. He'd often bring me all these games and occasionally a game console. Only consoles I ever bought were the knock-offs. They varied in terms of price, every kid on the block had the cheap $20 ones that looked like SEGA Genesis but ran NES games, others had $150 ones that could run both SNES and Genesis games, as well as a weird SimCity clone that I still miss...

Also got a 360 for 30 Euros. Seemed like a good deal, but I only wanted it to play Saints Row, and since it couldn't, Xbox meet concrete.

I won the Wii at a raffle. Sold it cause I'm not 5 anymore, haven't been for nearly two decades.

I got a 360 a 2008 and it died in 2011. It wasn't due to the RROD, but the laser disc reader stopped working. I got a slim model, and it's been going great for me ever since. There's only one problem: I had to start all over again because I forgot the password to email I used (I made it just for signing up to Xbox Live, and then never used it again). All my achievements and downloaded content gone.

I did that too, haha. Forgot both passwords, for the xbl account and the yahoo account. I had like 8000 Gamerscore and a couple of xbla games.

My first PS1 died because I dropped a giant magnet on it some time when the PS2 came out.

Rip PS1.

And my first PS2 died after I played San Andreas for so f*cking long (years) that it just couldn't take no more cap'n and went kaput.

Rip PS2.

I had a Nintendo Entertainment System when I was 6 years old, then I had a Sega Mega Drive, a Game Boy and a Game Boy Color, although I don't remember where they have gone, maybe I sold them or gave them as a gift.

Two years later, when I was 8 years old, my father gifted me with a customized Crash Team Racing PlayStation 1, I think it was the best console I've ever had in my life, along with a big box full of video games - both original and pirated - I have a lot of good, good memories of that console. Once destroyed, only God knows how, my father bought me its little brother: the PSone.

In 2005, my mother bought me a PlayStation 2: first game I've played on it? GTA: San Andreas, obviously! I still remember all the time I spent playing it with my cousins, or alone at home all night long. I ruined it two years ago.

Sometime in 2008, I've bought a PlayStation 3. The best games I've played on that console were GTAIV and GTA: Episodes from Liberty City, Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition and Heavy Rain among others - I didn't play many games on it, but I surely enjoyed them all. Not too long after the announcement of GTAV, my PlayStation 3 had the infamous YLoD (Yellow Light of Death) and never played the aforementioned game, I may be the only console gamer who never played it, sadly.

Last year, I bought a brand new PlayStation 2 along with the limited, GTA: The Trilogy edition from Amazon. Besides GTA: The Trilogy I also have GTA: Liberty City Stories (which I'll start playing soon since I completed GTA: San Andreas at 100% last week), GTA: Vice City Stories, Red Dead Revolver, Manhunt, Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, Oni, Half-Life, MGS2: Sons of Liberty, MGS3: Snake Eater and Beyond: Good & Evil.

PS1: I had a few of them, but I got rid of my last one in 2005.

Xbox: Got it in 2003. When I was cleaning out my room one day I noticed it was under my bed collecting dust. I hadn't played it in years and decided to throw it away.

360: My first 360 was an Arcade I got in 2009 which I traded in to get the new 360S in 2010 which I still have.

PS2: I've always had several of them, but I still have the one I got in 2002. Probably wont ever play it again though.

Dude, why did you throw away an awesome piece of gaming history? I would love to have an OG Xbox to play the games I can't play on 360.

It was missing its power chord anyway. The only remnants I have of it is Manhunt on Xbox which is hard to find over here since it was banned sometime after release. Lucky my 360 can play it.

I'd say you got off lightly, I had over 16,000 gamerscore on my account (that I've only recently passed) and several Games on Demand titles.

Sega Genesis...if I could just find some power chords I think it might actually still work. I loved that thing.

Take a look at eBay, there's a lot of power cords on sale, and they're not too expensive: http://www.ebay.com/bhp/sega-genesis-power-cord

All my consoles are still alive and happily living in my home. Except for PS1, which I sold years ago. I have nothing but respect for my trusty old PS2. Many years of frequent use (well, not as much since I got the 360, but still used very often) and still works without a hitch. My PSP too. I wish I could say that about my 360, but I have to admit that it is a warrior. It's the old early version of the console and it went through a lot, but still somehow manages to run after almost seven years of everyday use. Two RRoDs and it's not loading discs properly anymore, as it takes several attempts to load an inserted one. I had it fixed about a year ago or so, but it started happening again after a few months. I didn't bother with repairs this time around and just put up with a quick insert/eject routine for a couple of times before it finally loads. Who knows how long it'll last, but for now, it's okay.

My N64 has survived from 1998-today, still fully functional, and only used to play conkers bad fur day. The console may not be dead, but my conkers game is :/ the n64 still reads other games, but not conker. Bummer. A replacement would run me like $200 nowadays, so im just gonna get a rom cartridge later.

Xbox 2002-2006: i trashed it when i got my 360

Xbox 360 2006-present :p no red ring of death ever :) hate on it.

Nintendo DSi: 2009-2012, gave it to my ex who was a bigger pokemon fan then me. I dont even know why i bought it, games all sucked on it.

My Fat PS3 is going to die soon it flashed yellow once and takes two attempts to turn on but it still is alive, soon though she may be gone.

I took my Atari 2600 apart to "see what it was all about" and never put it back together. The video game fad was over so it didn't matter. :)
