Guest
Hello guys, So here I'm with a specific problem. By posting this, I would hope someone could confirm this problem, altough I'm not sure whether it's a real problem or it's related to the Sony Bravia television. So recently I bought a new 42' LCD TV (it's a Sony Bravia KDL-42W815B), very happy with it except when I played GTA V... So this problem is all about my TV and GTA V on PS4! When I drive with my character in a car or just simply walk with it on the road I see colored lines on the lower edge of the television, both on the left and right of the TV. The colored lines (mostly red and green) are curved and go around the main character in the game, they are also static relative to the TV. Oh yeah, and they are visible druing daylight and when you stay on the gray/black asphalt. To see the colors clearly you have to turn the camera gently around the character and watch the lower ground your character stays on. So after this observation I tried to play with the tv settings and concluded that the colored lines occur only when the sharpness is set on 60-70 or higer (I'm aware of the diffrences between TV models and that's why I mentioned my own tv model). My Tv Settings Picture mode: Game-standard Backlight: 8 Contrast: 95 Colour: 60 Hue: 0 Colour Temperature: standard Sharpness: 70 All the other settings are basically set on default. Is anyone out there, hopefully with the exact same TV or at least with a Sony Bravia (2014), with the same settings and can observe this colors? If someone could confirm this, I would appreciate it and would help me to keep the TV instead of returning it. Thank you guys. championpuffa
i have a w905 46" i dont seem to have any problems. but i do notice the tv's game option doesnt look very good compared to its vivid or standard modes. i dont know if your scene select is set to auto but if i was you id take it off of the game mode or auto an put it on general. i didnt like this option for gaming as for starters the motionflow or woteva its called only has one working option an its very flickery an generally designed for films by the looks of it, doesnt do your games any justice when its all skippy. some people do not notice this effect tho. i have spent a long time going back an forward between game mode an just standard/general an all other options to try to get the best picture out of the tv. my conclusion for my preference is that game mode sucks an general is much better, i get better colours an much better detail than i do playing on game mode. change your scene select to be on general an not set to auto an you can stop it from going onto game mode. change this an see wot you think. i have not noticed the issue your having tho an i have played around with most settings including the sharpness which is currently set to 75. also i notice the picture is much much smoother when on general an its not as skippy/laggy probably as you can use more motion settings which makes quit a big difference. i have mines set to general for scene select an then the picture mode is set to vivid, reality creation is on auto, smooth gradation is on medium (hard to notice this ones effects tho), and motionflow is set to smooth. this makes a lot of difference to the smoothness of the picture an how smooth it makes your gameplay look. game mode only has one option for this an its not a very nice picture to deal with. now thats assuming your tv has the same kind of options i have. ( it should do minus maybe one or 2 features) but you should be able to get what i consider a better picture if you change your settings to general and vivid an have the picture enhancements on instead of having it set to game mode. i will have a look later i need to go an replace my ps4 controllers as both my RT bumpers have broken so i cant use them. once ive done that il load up gtav an see if i can notice wot you mention. il set my tv to be the same as yours. if you do return the tv imo i wouldnt buy any other brand. jus exchange it for either the same model or the one up. i spent a while looking at my sony tv an originally went in to buy the samsung f8000 or woteva the model is ( the equivalent basically) the sony was much better at handling colours an detail the samsung ( which i arlready own a older 40" lcd samsung) was terrible in comparison. the sony was able to depict a whole screen with only red items of varying shades an it could easily show every shade of red an distinguish between each item an you could still easily see the outline of each item. the samsung was next to it with the equivalent pic settings( i made sure of this) an it could only show about 2-3 different shades( there were at least 20 on the screen) an the outlines of most of the red items were blurred together and hard to depict. basically the screen jus looked like a big red screen of red mushy stuff. Zoolock
Don't know if this helps you but I had a Sony Bravia TV a while ago & it also had problems making the picture slightly blurry & sometimes pixelated round the edges. It was due to the input from HDMI to the PS3 but an update sorted it out. Check to see if Sony have at firmware update for your model of TV as it fixed my problem. Guest
Thx for the comprehensive explanation Championpuffa. If the case, I was thinking to exchanging the TV for the same model. I also compered some TV models with samsung (my brother has one) and conlcuded to stay with sony for sure. The problem I described earlier seems to occur only with game mode (and sharpness at 70 or higer). So all the other picture modes are doing just fine. So that's why I openend this topic, to make sure the problem shouldn't be an actual problem if others would recognise the same effect on game mode. And Zoolock I already have the lates firmware update, that was not the sollution. I had the same thinking as yours before updating the firmware. So hopefully there are others who can simulate the same settings on their sony bravia and let me know whether this effect is familiar. And indeed if I lower the sharpness, eventually the colour effect will fade away.
