The Drifting Corner

Drifting is going to kick off big style when the PC version comes out and we can make our own handling lines and add in some proper race tracks. I can't wait lul.

That is one of the main reasons why I've decided to build a PC. I've always been curious about modding. Handling lines in particular.

Ahh!

To drift and not know Tsuchiya is to...

Be a chef and not know Emeril

Be a politician and not know George Washington

Be a Jedi and not know Yoda.

It is necessary background knowledge.

That's the douchiest thing I've ever read on this forum and that takes some doing. I liked the part of the video you posted where he lost control and went into the tyre wall, reminded me very much of Yoda.

More of a Ken Block man myself.

If you drift in real life and take it seriously I couldn't agree more.

This is a thread about drifting in a video game, so what exactly are you on about?

Small word of advice guys for the moment you get your hands on that:

I've tried many drift "mods" and all of them felt very artificial to say the least.

Your best bet is to take a car you like drifting with and give it the slight edge you want. Most of them only really need that to be exceptional drifters...

I've even managed to make a bus drift by giving it twice the power and a bit more traction ^^...

Anything can be modded on a car handling wise, it's pretty amazing what you can do, I'm still learning myself after countless hours playing around with the values. So lets say it's trial and error...

Just don't go over the top like I did and create a car that spins on itself or spawns upside down haha...

Reminds me of a car I had in an old Gran Turismo, I made a 1000 bhp Supra and turned it into a rally car just for the lulz.

1000 bhp on a rear wheel drive Supra rally car?...

Bonkers...

Sounds like something I would do too... Hahaha

Yeah man it even had really close gear ratios just to make it worse, it was a beast on Tarmac but on a dirt track it barely moved from the start with all the wheelspin haha.

Well, I dunno if you also play on consoles, but there's a "slidey cars cheat", which pretty much changes the handling of every car in the game to do just that.

The problem is that these GTA5 cars don't turn from the front, they pivot from the center. On GTA 4 they actually had body roll and turned from the front, that's why drifting is nearly impossible in this game.

That, and the fact that every car in the game has ABS(even the Futo)

Oddly enough, the cheat i mentioned earlier reverts that, making every car equipped with conventional brakes

I've found some fun custom tracks for drifting and I was wondering if I could show them off here? Or would that be spamming?

I know about the cheat and I've tried it multiple times, but I'd rather drift without it. It doesn't feel like you are on tarmac with it on. You are just kind of sliding around.

Just put them in a spoiler tag, less intrusive, but do share!

anybody try drifting any of the rwd sedans yet? Schafter/tailgater? Sedans are my favorite class but it's difficult for me to maintain the drifts without swinging the rear end back and forth to keep the tires sliding

That's the "Scandinavian flick" right there:)

okay guys. were obviously all into the same thing. we got derailed a little there and started arguing.

obviously, if you are still into drifting in GTA (its been out well over a year) and were still talking about it, then i think we can all consider that we've ALL argued the obvious argument, you CAN drift in GTA.

yeah, obviously it aint no forza or GT, its not a simulator, oh you can do better drifts in that game? cool go do them and gtfo.

we have a nice fairly active community here and i wouldnt want to see it all go to sh*t just because we have pride.

touge, we get it, were not as well versed in the history of the sport as you are. we are all sorry if we accidentally used the wrong word to describe something. please accept this fact and move on. i, personally, appreciated the bit of history as ive never heard of/seen that guy before. its cool to know how humble the origins of drifting are.

syno, sorry, i didnt mean to post twice, however we added a reddit page to our crew's organisation and i thought it would be worth it to post, but i got lazy and did a copy + paste, making it look even worse. sorry.

syno and touge, we encourage you to join our crew if you can agree to the above mentioned and just have fun. we all want to drift, we want to show off, lets not be so harsh on eachother. lets encourage eachother to be better by sharing our techniques, showing off videos, meeting up, and asking questions.

(sorry for rant)

Hence why I said "make our own handling lines"I did get that yes ;), just general advice. Alot of people tend to give up on making their own handling lines when they mess up badly. Can be a bit confusing in the beginning.

Once you understand how it all works it's much easier and very rewarding.

There is no way the tailgater is awd.

Actually just tested it out, I was pretty sure it was 4wd with most of the power on the rear but it seems I was just talking out of my ass there sorry...

Quite curious, I was sure it was 4wd seeing as it's based on an Audi, all of which are either front wheel drive or 4wd (quattro)... Hmmmm

if it was awd I'd love it even more :p

I went through a phase of testing all the AWD cars out offroad (decent looking non-super ones) and unfortunately, the tailgater was not one of them.

it is indeed RWD.

check the vehicle stats file here:

review drivetrain and drivetrain bias.

eh, that file is pretty old, i doubt its still being updated. it only has 1 sandking and it says its RWD...

I actually have an "RS4" plate on mine... I feel a bit let down now :(
