Why are gamer girls so protected?

Maybe a trivial comment in response to someone talking about depression was not the best move to make in the first place.

And? Anyway my comment has nothing to do with feminism, it more about being sensitive to a posible serious mental condition. You have not idea how bad someones depression maybe, and the comments the op made were the equivalent of a "just cheer up" which is the worst comment to someone who is depressed.

I've spent many years living with a partner who suffers from depression so I do know something about It.

Being a girl myself, I have to say I prefer playing with guys because honesty, most girls I come across are pretty damn whiny and totally immature.

If a guy wants to come be a white knight, it's a nice gesture, but I can handle myself, but I always appreciate it. I won't be the damsel in distress though.

Guys can talk sh*t all they want to me, but when I kill them over and over again and they never get the upper hand, they're awfully quiet.

I can see what ticked this girl off. She was depressed about something that had nothing to do with this game, and when she mentioned her feelings, you responded with a positive statement about this game. She took that to mean that you were saying that her real-life problems weren't important, and that a video game would make her happy. And that pissed her off.

I can understand that. I don't necessarily think it was the best reaction, but what I'm saying is, I understand how it happened.

I believe that your comment wasn't meant to imply that her problems were insignificant, or that good news about a video game would solve her problems. I believe you just meant it as a little happy note to try to cheer her up. I believe that you were basically saying, "While I can't do anything to help you with whatever's depressing you, at least here's this little happy thought which maybe might be something cheerful to think about and take your mind off other things for a few minutes." I believe that's what your intent was. But I also believe that what she heard was, "Your problems don't matter, because heists are coming out! That should make you happy no matter what and erase all your pain!"

I can buy that but there is one big issue here. Why is this person pulling "woe is me" on the OP. If they were best friends I could see her wanting to discuss life problems with him. It doesn't sound like this person and the OP are anywhere near best friends. Maybe I'm wrong about that if so then I retract my statement. This is gonna sound cold but I'll be damned if I try and deal with someone's mental issues via a violent video game when I barely know them.

I don't like using the term "attention whore", but yeah, depressed people never vocalize.

I was just kidding. I agree with you but it sounds like he just tried to cheer her up. I don't think that she was in a deep depression, probably some teenage bull and felt like they could mess with this guy and even make him apologize which is even worse. A little joke and they make him feel bad about it?! He's probably just a kid. The double standards are way to high!

Just play it cool, say ur sorryings again, share a pisswaser with her and the crew, go rob a store together to show solerdarity...then put a SNS cap in the back of her head, and drop them crew colors.

Yes I have to agree a truly depressed person would not vocalise, it is a warning sign when someone who is depressed goes quiet.

It's understandable that one may take offense to op's off-hand comment, but it doesn't justify going apesh*t and causing a scene. That there shows lack of self-control and basic respect to others. Be civilized, don't be rude, discuss things calmly. Being offended does not give you the right to be a jerk.

But don't tell her that during her tantrum!

Sounds to me like she might be less depressed if she learned to laugh. The comment was witty. Maybe she needs Jesus Heists Christ in her life...

Indeed. The correct response was, "Geez lady, you think you got problems?? I've been waiting two damn years for heists!" :p

This is spot on. She was depressed and then OP implied a video game DC would make it all right

Good reason to get mad, but not enough to give the outrageous response she did (angry women in a nutshell, forgive me for saying so). OP was just trying to help anyways.

Keep real life problems out of video games. I do think she was just attention seeking though, as a person who has worked in mental health for the last 14 years what she said sounds far more like the words of someone with Borderline Personality Disorder than Clinical Depression, and far more like attention seeking than either!

luckily you have recourse to that sweet auto shotty in gta, unlike real life! Lol

Basically the OP said the first thing that came to mind that was positive (while focusing on the game), and it was pretty much not the right thing to say, classify it as a slip of the tongue if it makes you feel better. Your tone may have had something to do with it, it may have sounded sarcastic/too light hearted, but of course I don't know.

Often the best thing to do in life is say nothing at all, unless necessary. Measure what the gain may be against what could be lost. The chance of any random girl being your future girlfriend/wife or whatever is roughly 0.01%, so don't go out of your way to get in someone's good books as odds are that they aren't your soul mate or anything close to it. Plus there's a bunch of other people in the same chat, leave it for them. Best not to get involved or say anything in this scenario unless it's a sure thing that cannot backfire in any way.

I'll admit it's sometimes hard to not think of/measure any attractive girl you come across as a potential girlfriend, instead of a person. And treating them in this fashion tends to be the accident that follows, It's a guy thing. Plus when most guys hear a girl with a nice voice over the internet etc, they tend to subconsciously/automatically picture her as attractive, and it goes from there.

Keep real life problems out of video games.

This would eliminate 99% of the player base, who come to GTA0 to compensate for their real life inadequacies, insecurities, rage, repression, frustration, ignorance and lack of self-worth. :p

Sounds like an average girl to me.

You are all forgetting rule number one when dealing with any woman, it doesn't matter the age, race, height, size, etc

B!TCHES BE CRAZY!!!!

And also tell that miserable mare to shut up, video games are not a place to air your problems, go cry in the kitchen whilst you wash up the dishes, but don't get no tears in my tea b!tch.

Having cleared up the mess numerous times, it's when they seem to be recovering that you REALLY need to be there for them. In the deepest pits of depression that the majority of us can't comprehend people don't have the motivation to take their lives; or even wash - sometimes not even go to the toilet.

When they're recovering there's a very dangerous period when they have the ability to carry out their plans but aren't yet well enough to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

i'm used to it.

- I would guess she's in her PMS. That's one possibility. That's first.

- Secondly, I agree wholeheartedly with what JRebbert said.

- Third, she probably likes attention. Met this kind of girls from online games. One of them becomes a friend now and found out that she's weird and only want comforting words. As a guy and a friend, I'm not a 'comforting' type. So I whip her to motivate her to carry on her life positively.

Maybe because she thinks she is going to be alone on that god awful holiday "Valentines Day". As its rapidly approaching some of my friend are in the seriously pissed off period for the last week. Turns people crazy. Just a thought.

Just say your feeling really sad for killing that person in the shop and stealing all their money, following hookers down the street and planting a hatchet in their heads, mowing down your best friend, soaking them in gasoline and watching them burn. When someone say "hey I do it all the time, its just a game!" Then say "I'm talking about when I'm not on the Xbox. How dare you assume it's about the game!" and rage at them.

If anyone's spilling their guts and personal feelings to 30 other people on a games console then they have a screw loose. One on one it's different, but don't pander to their pathetic whims, it's attention seeking and "privileged" narcissistic behavior. Don't dwell on it and certainly don't entertain it, tell that them they should see a therapist or speak to a close friend but don't bare all to a group of strangers and expect everyone to be sympathetic. The same people do it on social media too and it distracts from the people who really do suffer.
