Why were no animals added with "next gen" Online

Recommended Posts

The limit is hardcoded, therefor it is shared between Story Mode and Online.

Why would there be the same limitation on networking in a mode that doesn't require connection to, or communication with, other clients..?

If I thought you had any idea what you were talking about before, I really don't now. Sorry.

Believe it or not Online does not require its own set of streaming memory since anything can fill that memory, from car polygons to anything relating to networking, that is why less cars spawn when you happen to have bad connection. Streaming memory is a great way R* tries to keep framerate smooth.

Off Topic: If you have played 100 + hours on CG and enjoy FPV, you will find it hard to agree that CG is not worth it. Having gone back to PS3 a few times, it just looks far to dated when I am used to the PS4 Version (it looks much better).

On Topic: Network Limitations due to p2p gameplay. Not much needs to be communicated overall; the actual Download Usage is only 100 - 150 MB or so an hour on PS4. However you need information to be communicated to and from ALL other Player's in the Session, with Scripts simultaneously running in the background to confirm all of this Information is synchronized. Just becomes to much of a mess and risks Network limitations creeping in if more needs to be communicated.

Minecraft can manage larger worlds with more detail, hundreds of players, npc's villagers and animals on top of better lighting among other graphics stuff, this is why R* isn't Notch rich.

Is it really that big of a deal? Most people never leave the city anyway, right?

You mean apart from the thousands upon thousands of players that never go anywhere near the city?

So you don't agree most people stay in the city?

"minecraft and more detail" when comparing it with GTAV on ps4/xbone.. that should not even be a comparison.. More detail in Minecraft?!?! Are you delusional

Officer Ronson

Well it's possibly because animals don't spawn like pedestrians do, a lot of animals have predefined spawn points but online takes those spawn points away for some reason. The only animals you'll find only is mackarel.

Last I checked you could enter everything in Minecraft.

Also Minecraft got heists before GTA 5

Do players see the same npc actions that other players. I've had on occasion a dead cop riding with me in the cop car and I thought it was funny, but no one else could see it. Also had an npc whom caught fire during an explosion and was walking around on fire as if everything normal, as I am laughing my ass off, nobody else saw the same thing. So I often had wondered just exactly how much is rendered p2p. Knocked over lamp posts don't seem to be damaged too long, they are fixed by the time you make a block.

Probably something to do with those $400 paperweight you call a gameing console....

But srs I thought the animals were suppose to be a selling point of "next gen consoles"?

Seems like they got you guys good tbh

Comparing minecraft to gta.

Notch is richer then R*

Minecraft is the third best selling game in history, Notch is literally swimming in money even though the community basically made the game for him, he gets an additional 2 billion from Microsoft. Spends no money on marketing, has YouTubers do it for him. Notch also releases free snapshots and openly states people can pirate the game if they want. Game retails for less than half of GTA 5, sales are still roughly twice what GTA 5's are.

You can compare Minecraft to any game thanks to the ability to build and change skins hence why the video I shared featured Michael, Trevor and Franklin performing heists.

Also Notch dropped 70mill on his house while Houser spent a measly 12mill

Reading everything here, I am inclined to believe it is a combination of Hardcoded Limits & Network Limitations that has resulted in R* not including Animals Online on PS4/Xbone. This would be a big draw-card for PS4/Xbone so they WOULD have if they thought if would not effect the stability of GTA Online.

On PS3 in particular, when there are a larger number of Player's in Session and more "activity", the ambient pedestrian and traffic densities drastically decrease (almost to nothing at times). This indicates to me that some form of Hardcoded Limit is being reached and the Scripts controlling the ambient pedestrian and vehicle densities are being suppressed. If Hardcoded Limits were not being reached, then the ambient pedestrian and vehicle densities should not be decreasing just because additional activity is taking place.

Also in case you didn't see the video, it was about Minecraft Heists featuring GTA 5 characters.

Rockstar been in the game before notch even thought of making minecraft.

It's value depreciates every year and by 2020 people be like what's minecraft while rock star be like heist release 2020 spring.

Exactly, Notch just started, his first game made him a multi billionaire, just wait for his next title.

mmhmm more like a one hitter milking

Sounds familiar.

Minecraft was not the first game he made, it was just the one that set him up for life. When minecraft was first released i was screwing around with wc3 map editor.

Anyway back on topic, as i don't know how gta is coded, bandwidth limitations could be a legit reason, hell the cops struggle to maintain pursuit on more than 1 person at a time.

That wasn't what I meant but PSY oppa gangnam style is a perfect example of one hitter. That song will be his top creation and nothing will be like it ever. Yea he was in the game but that one song put him on top for that year.

Like it or not, network bottlenecking is a real thing. The server and all connected clients (or just clients, in a P2P game, which GTA Online mostly is*) need to communicate with each other the positions, states, and movements of any dynamic object or entity. That's all information that goes into packets, that fire off constantly to and from your console. And the more of it there is, the more potential for lag there is. So once you understand why Online has fewer cars than single player (it has nothing to do with hardware, and everything to do with reducing number of packets) - then you also understand why animals were first to get the axe. They're a novelty and R* obviously saw them as expendable. And almost all multiplayer games do this kind of thing.

Network bottlenecking is a problem...however I am not so sure it was the issue here. There are two main contributing factors here. Firstly when online first launched on LG the spawning was bugged and would cause animals to occasionally spawn. It didn't cause game breaking lag. The lobby didn't suddenly suffer a mass disconnection.

Secondly any developer worth his salt would write the network code intelligently. If client A is in LS and client B is in Sandy Shores then there is no reason for client A to update client B with data about the NPC traffic around them. Equally there is no reason for client B to notify client A with the detail that a coyote just spawned. Using such a system would cut down on network traffic massively and would easily allow animals to spawn in the country, where there is alot less NPC traffic. I guess without digging into the disassembled network code we have no way of knowing but I would be highly surprised if Rockstar didn't implement a system like this, otherwise the game would likely be completely unplayable since 32 players would all be updating each other with where every NPC spawned on the map is and what they are doing at every instant.
