I'm well aware of the "pay to win" controversy surrounding H1Z1, and I understand that might turn some people off. I also understand that paying for early access to a game which will be released for free eventually is also a bit of an issue for some.

This thread has nothing to do with either of those topics.

This thread is for those who are playing the game and have stories to tell. Please refrain from engaging in debate over the controversy, we can do that elsewhere.

------------------------------

My first spawn put me near a an apartment building. I went inside, seemingly all alone, and began searching for stuff. Found binoculars and a hat, as well as some food items. Just as I was preparing to leave, I heard footsteps nearby. I hunkered down in a corner and waited. Then a door opened. He seemed to be on the floor below, so I waited for him to go away.

Another door opened. Then another. He was clearing the whole building, and I had no escape. There was one entrance and he would see me if I used it, not to mention hear my footsteps if I moved at all.

I decided to call out to him and let him know I was friendly and he could take whatever I had if he just let me leave. He didn't respond but I could tell by his change in walking pattern that he had now begun searching for me.

Finally he enters my unit, but turns the opposite way from the room I'm in. I crouch walk behind him with my hands up and tell him "Hey man I'm behind you, my hands are up". He turned around and hacked me to death with a machette. Hope the chili beans and stagnant water were worth it.

A few spawns later I met another player who was very helpful. Gave me a compass, a lighter, and bandaged me up. We ran together, looking for a place to set up a fort. Eventually found a cabin that seemed like a good candidate, but noticed a radio tower on top of a mountain and curiosity took over. On the way we killed a zombie that was carrying a hunting rifle and a pistol. He took the rifle, I took the pistol.

We headed up the mountain and on the way, just as I was saying to him "Well it seems like we're pretty alone up here", I pass a rock and find a BEAR on the other side. Shot it to death with my pistol. We got to the top, nothing there but a player-made furnace inside a shack and a camp fire. Cooked the bear meat, had a meal, and decided to head North toward what appeared to be buildings in the distance (I learned later it was Pleasant Valley.)

It was a long walk, and by the time we reached the outer edge of the city, we were both thirsty, so we decided to fill up our water bottles and boil them over a camp fire. This was a terrible idea.

The camp fire drew the attention of a group of players who were nearby. At first we saw their names up come in proxy chat, then we heard their foot steps. Then their gun shots. We took off running but one of them had a hunting rifle and shot me in the back, killing me. I don't know if my friend escaped, and I still have not run into him again. Don't know if I ever will.

The very next spawn, I wander across an elaborate fort set up near a collapsed mountainside tunnel. It didn't seem like anyone was home so I wandered inside and came face to face with a shotgun barrel. He simply warned me away, I said I just spawned and had nothing on me at all. He offered me food and pointed me south down the road, so I left.

Found a large store and a gas station. Looted some food, and found a pistol and some ammo in the office section of the large store. Fed myself, prepared for a journey, and decided I was going back to the fort to give the owner a choice - let me join, or I'm taking over.

On my way out of the building I ran across another player. Startled me, he was on the other side of a blackberry bush so I didn't see him at first, we literally ran directly into each other. I pulled my pistol as a reflex and pointed it in his face. He threw his hands up and said "Whoa whoa whoa whoa" and backed away. I just told him to turn around and keep walking, that I was going about my business and wouldn't hurt him as long as he stayed away. He did.

Eventually came across the fort again. I crawled through the bushes and hid behind a tree. Heard gun shots and saw a player running away from it.

I moved up next to the entrance and went prone in the tall grass. A player in a black shirt ran out from inside, right over top of me, didn't see me, giving chase to the player that ran away.

I moved inside the fort and hid behind some boxes, just to get an idea of what was happening. Nobody was talking, but i heard a few footsteps on the level above me.

Just as I was making my move to rush the second floor and kill whomever was up there, the black shirt guy came back and shot at me. I went back behind the boxes, and as he reloaded I ran back out and we traded gun shots. I know I HAD to have him near death, but he managed to kill me first. Oh well.

I respawned with a new plan - stay away from players at all costs. I went full stealth mode, going prone and staying still whenever players were near, always making sure there were two exits for any area I was in, and scoping out areas with my binoculars before going in.

After a few hours I was well looted up. Stole rabbit meat from someone's animal traps and cooked it on his grill, a nice stock of blackberry juice, two first aid kits, a hand gun and plenty of ammo, a machete and an axe.

Made my way to the Pleasant Valley Police Department.

Pleasant Valley is usually bustling, just full of players at all times, but not today. Not a soul in sight. Front door to the police station was closed, even.

Made my way inside and crawled to the stairs, so I'd hear if another player was walking around. Silent.

Went down to the weapons storage area, found two AR15's, about 800 rounds of .223, about 100 rounds of .45, and a military backpack.

Stocked on weapons an ammo, thirst and hunger quenched and health at max, I decided NOW is the time to get the hell out of dodge and set myself up in a remote area away from player spawns and not near highly trafficked areas.

I take one step out the front door of the police station and another player rounds the wall out front. He has an AR15.

No time to say a word, not even taking a chance after the score I just made with the guns and ammo... so we shot at each other. I took a hit, he took several more. I killed my first player in H1Z1.

No time to loot his body (not that i needed to anyway), zombies were swarming.

I hauled ass out of town, got a safe distance away from the zombies and healed up. Went to a church, ate some of the food sitting around, then moved back down to the road where I found a camper, in which I logged out of the game.

This is a damned fun game.
