Words cannot accurately express how excited we are to reveal The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit to you! This self-contained and completely free narrative Life is Strange experience will release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam) on June 26, 2018. You read that right - you won’t have to pay anything at all to get this stand-alone adventure that will also give you glimpse into Life is Strange 2’s brand-new story… but only if you’re clever enough to piece the clues together!

In The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, you play as Chris, an ordinary 10-year old boy who dreams of being a superhero. Chris has a big imagination that will take him on all sorts of adventures, but on this particular Saturday something truly extraordinary will happen to him…

So many chills down my spine... I INSTANTLY recognized that typical LiS art-style.

I can't wait for June 26 to arrive to play this "prequel" :D

Yeah, I'll play Capt. Spirit but I know I won't feel right about it.   I felt weird playing LiS and ever creepier playing Before the Storm.  I'm an old balding freak...not too far away from Trevor(GTA V)...except I'm older...possibly creepier because.

Looking forward to playing LiS2.  I just hope they don't spoil what they created by layering on too much angst.  Way too heavy on angst in Before the Storm.

I know they will very likely deliver an amazing game.

However, opening pre-orders without even knowing what the game will be like is kinda odd.

Captain Spirit is just something else that will have some ties to LiS2 story. It isn't enough for me though.

There's the factor BTS was made by a totally different company (yay for IPs belonging to publishers and not to developers) so I think LiS 2 will be better planned.

Totally hip to it not being Dontnod...that's why I cut it a break :)

Honestly most people's teen years are enough of an adventure to make a game of.  I fear they could blow a good thing if they deviate too far from a 'real life's style script.  But wait...maybe some teens are just 'that' angsty.  Ha

Oh my goodness.  I'm not sure I can do this one.

The opening is down right "what the f*ck" depressing...and then after it makes you sad and depressed it wants you to ignore the past 20 some minutes and play make believe fun time.

I'm not kidding; when the prologue ended I was too concerned about this kid's mental state to play make believe fun time.  I couldn't continue the game.  I'll get back to it but damn...

Nihilist.

Completed Captain Spirit last evening, it's kinda underwhelming if I have to be honest. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's bad or anything, it just lacks any story, characters to interact and bond with, and the gameplay feels kinda pointless, since your choices don't really matter contrary to the original Life Is Strange. I have truly mixed feelings about it, and feel terrible criticizing it since it's free, but on the other hand, while there are free of charge games I'd see myself purchasing with real money because they absolutely deserve it, I most likely wouldn't spend a buck on Captain Spirit. And that comes from a huge, huge fan of LIS and its universe.

Yeah, there are moments that were designed to make you weep and feel sorry for Chris, but backstory is not enough to push the main story forward and allow the protagonist to grow as a character. I didn't expect much of growth knowing it's a free teaser of Life Is Strange 2, meaning it wouldn't be long enough to allow it, but still, I can't say I'm satisfied with the final product.

There's no story setting up the ending, no difficult choices between lesser of two evils impacting the world and its characters, and finally, there was no tension, real emotions and cathartic moments. You surely can't call Captain Spirit's adventures "amazing", unfortunately.

I enjoyed it. It isn't meant to give us a full look at what LiS2, I'm thinking this is the only thing they will show us until the first episode drops.

The sh*t is quite depressing, which I wouldn't expect anything less from this game.

Maybe Captain Spirit and Before the Storm(to a lesser degree) are being used to find the butter zone for this genre from Dontnod.  *no need to remind me that BtS isn't Dontnod - it factors into my conspiracy.

It would be a smart move to preserve the well received, beloved LiS.   They can test how far they should push the angst,  how far they should embellish or accentuate emotions.  Test the waters to see what the kids like in these kinds of games.  It's like when a show retools their show but by not connecting it to the original 'show' it is without risk of turning off people (the fans) of the show.

Almost smart for Dontnod not doing BtS.  They get to not be blamed if anything isn't well received with the bonus of adding another large focus group to their dataset of "what works".

Dear Life is Strange fans,

You’ve waited so long for it, and it’s finally here… today we reveal everything you need to know about Life is Strange 2. The first of 5 episodes will release September 27, 2018 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam)!

First things first: the trailer!

The main characters of Life is Strange 2 are brothers Sean (16) and Daniel Diaz (9), two brothers living a fairly normal life in Seattle, Washington state. Following a tragic event, their lives are forever changed. Now on the run from the police and threatened with both separation and incarceration, Sean decides to take his younger brother and seek a better life in their family’s home town of Puerto Lobos, Mexico.

Life on the road is tough and dangerous. The brothers will face all manner of challenges as they bravely undertake a journey that will test the bonds of brotherhood. Playing as Sean, you will need to make the kind of tough choices you can expect from a Life is Strange game, and you will need to live with the consequences of your actions. The game will this time focus on brotherhood alongside the need to guide and educate your younger brother whilst simultaneously coming of age yourself. As with previous games in the series, Life is Strange 2 will tackle a host of issues that all of us can identify with and that will cause moral dilemmas and require much soul searching. These themes come together most powerfully in the way Daniel will develop depending on the lessons you teach him and the role model you decide to be.

image

We are also really excited to confirm that Life is Strange 2 will feature a new power. What it is and how it relates to the brothers is something you will discover in due course!

As Sean and Daniel travel towards Mexico, they will meet an entirely new cast of characters and pass through numerous new settings. Life is Strange 2 will also include multiple features that will be unveiled over the course of the next week, as we strive to deliver the most ambitious Life is Strange entry with the highest production values in the game series to date. Jonathan Morali, the French composer who worked with the team on the first game, is also composing a new original soundtrack for Life is Strange 2 which will be supported by a brand new licensed soundtrack.

image

If all that information wasn’t enough, you can also look forward to gameplay from Life is Strange 2 being released in the coming days. Make sure to subscribe to us on Youtube to be notified as soon the gameplay is released! If you are attending Gamescom 2018, do drop by the Square Enix booth (Hall 9, Booth B31) to play the opening scene yourself.

If you previously played The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, some of the finer details about the story and the brothers may now start falling into place. If you haven’t yet played The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, you can download it entirely for free on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam).

Episode 1 of Life is Strange 2 will release September 27, 2018 and you can pre-order it here.

This game represents as much of a journey to us as it does to our heroes Sean and Daniel, and we can’t wait to embark on it with you. Let’s get started!

I'm loving the first episode so far. Reminds me a lot of my youth.

There's cringle in a good way. I'm not sure how to put it in words, but the cringle feels real and I get a different vibe from it than in the first season.

That mirror scene had me laughing

I'm not that far into the game yet but I wish

that things wouldn't fall apart so quickly. I wish we'd see much more of the normal life of the protag. I really, really wanted to go to that party. I also loved the protag's dad from the moment I saw him

I honestly thought this was releasing tomorrow.  Installing now.

As an older guy I feel weirder and weirder with each release.

I actually like this one

Though perhaps that's because I actually relate to the protagonist in ways this time. Always good when you can relate to a protagonist. :)

Aside from the political commentary, I loved it. Time to break out the antidepressants.

Just started the episode. My little brother is also named Daniel so it brings back memories of when we used to hang out at that age.

I liked the

brief stopover at the look out looking over Arcadia bay. Made me think of Max's and Chloe's adventures and how small the world can be at times

I felt it was slightly over the top, but it's a game and it is what it is. At least it didn't feel forced.

I loved the episode. I can't wait for the next one, hopefully it's a monthly release and not take months to dish out the newest episode.

Am I the only one who likes these new characters more than LiS1?looking forward to the rest. Btw loved Layla. She is the type of character I wanted in a game for a very long time. I didn't expect the writing to be this good. Seems like they pick up some lessons from LiS1.

From the outset it seems like there won't be as many characters and hopefully less filler characters, but I think that's a good thing. In the first season I really only cared about Max and Chloe.

It seems like they're really going to focus on the relationship between Sean and Daniel, but I liked Brody despite he wasn't around for very long.
