Next Rockstar game after RDR2?

So today I got a bit of spare time at work and used it to make some weird calculations on when GTA VI might most likely be released.

 

I came to the conclusion that it could be September 2019 with an announcement one year ahead ... so around September-December 2018.

 

Furthermore - since Rockstar still hasn't announced their next game - my expectation is that Bully 2 rather than Red Dead 3 will be their next game and it will be released (according to my calculations ) sometime between May and August 2017 ... announcement probably in September/October 2016.

 

And then we come to Red Dead 3 ... that most likely is scheduled for release May-October 2018 with an announcement as early as October 2017.

People shouldn't be so hung up on sequels. Really. That's the reason why we have so many CODs and AssCreeds and FIFAs and whatnot.

 

R* is at its best when they do something new. Bully was great, LA Noire (I know they didn't develop it but still) was interesting. Warriors, Manhunt are cult classics. RD2 and GTA IV are successes because they steered away from the previous games, they might as well be different franchises. On the other hand Max Payne 3 and GTA V feel like sequels for sequels' sake and from what people say, MCLA also wasn't exactly the pinnacle of that franchise (I haven't played the previous ones so I can't say).

 

Not just because of this, but just out of principle I'm for new IPs than sequels, always. Say what you want about Quantic Dream, but they've never made a sequel and are better for it.

 

Likewise, as much as I liked Bully, I'll rather have a new IP from R* that breaks new ground than Bully 2.

Why a sequel, if they can bring us a totally new and amazing title, like they did with: Bully, RDR, The Warriors, Manhunt...

I remember seeing that profile before. The point is that if these people have been working all this time on a single project, which is most likely the case, then the game should've been in actual development, so to speak, since almost 3 years. Some of the people at the outsourcing Indian studio mention that they've been working on Rockstar's next project since late 13 to early 14. Although V released in 9/13, pre-production work should've started much earlier on the next project. V was actually a Spring release, so it was practically finished even earlier than that.

I think it's VERY likely that Red Dead 3 will show up at the PlayStation Meeting on September 7th.

I mean Rockstar has to reveal something sooner or later or they can as well be called dead ... it must happen NEXT MONTH or it won't happen this year at all!

Ugh...and just when i thought i would finally get to see a r* game optimized specifically for the current gen. Eff sony and microsoft..

The Neo probably isn't going to be a huge leap from the normal PS4. It's likely they'll do an optimized build for the PS4 and then bump it up a bit for the Neo, at least for show. And when it releases it all ends up looking the same.

I hope after RDR2, R* should make more effort to develop on Agent. It is time for Rockstar to take some risks and release this game, using Bourne movies as inspiration.

It's too early to talk about what R* will have on the pipeline after RDR2 and it would be difficult to make an educated guess given that we have no information about how long GTA Online will continue to be supported and how much of a success Redemption 2, including its Online world, will turn out to be. Anyway, I expect Grand Theft Auto VI after RDR2. The support (new content) for GTA Online will most likely stop close to the release of Red Dead, if not way before that. Red Dead Multiplayer/Online will allow Redemption 2 to stay relevant, strong and acts as a money gatherer for R* for two years at least, thus allowing R* to cook VI slowly for a late 2020 release. By that time, it will be 7 years since a brand new GTA was released and at least 3 years since GTA was kept off the radar by cutting off the support given to Online.

 

Do I like this? no, as I would rather experience a new IP like Agent before lusting for another GTA. And by the way, I think that the votes should've been zeroed as this topic was initially about the next game after V, or make another topic for proper voting.

You're right. I'm locking this for the time being as it's too early to discuss what exactly is going to happen next. Later on someone can make a new thread with a new poll. Not like its first iteration was very organized either.
