The Critics Thread

Recommended Posts

DevilHandsome4

The past thread I made regarding my problems with this GTA Online, has me very concerned. While some replied to it with thoughtful and very helpful insight on what they thought or how they shared my opinions, others went on to call me a bitch, whiner, complainer, moaner, etc. Those responses were anything less than mature and clearly show a problem with the community and the game industry in general: rabid fanboys

Now there's nothing wrong with being a fan of something you love, but being a fan doesn't mean you have to be an ass kisser to that particular thing. Being a fan also means having the balls to critic it and find where a certain area needs improvement and that's what this thread is for.

This thread is for all the GTA Online players, who find issues with the game. As critic of the game myself, I didn't critique it to hate on it, I did it cause I give a damn about the game. I see the potential in it, I see what it can be and the problems that the Online CLEARLY has are what frustrates me, cause I know and many other people know that it CAN be better.

So here are a few guidelines for this thread:

1. If you are here to critique the game, please put detail into the flaw that you are pointing so that we all can have a good conversation about it

2. If you are among the rabid fanboys who will insult anyone who wants to critique, dont even respond to this thread. If it bugs you so much, why waste time clicking on it?

3. This is associated with 2. If you see someone post something insulting or meant to put down your critique, do not give it the light of day. They want to act like children? Let them act like children. We adults will continue to have our conversation

4. And finally, not exactly a guideline but just a heads up. You aren't a hater for critiquing this game. If anything you're helping it get better. Whether you believe it or not, people from Rockstar look at these forums. i mean it would be really dumb for developer to only find feedback at their own site. They gotta look outside the box and since this is GTA fansite, they'd be crazy not to take a peek at this place every now and again, so you word still counts. But, we'll still have plans to transfer these critiques over to the main site, just so that they can get more attention

Oh and this isn't a bitch and moan thread. Just the name of that thread makes my eyes roll. Makes it seem like if you dare say anything bad about this game, even the slightest thing, then you're a bitch and a moaner and thats not the case.

With all that out of the way, let the critiques commence!

The bitch and moan thread is for discussing several unpleasantries you experience within the game, so is this thread. Critique falls under "bitching and moaning" on this forum, a bit stupid, but such is life around here. Would be nice to have a thread about critique specifically, though, so perhaps the mods will let it slide

Spaghetti Cat

When Online first became active there were plenty of problems, but a year on a lot of that got cleared up. I've only got two criticisms:

Lobby System: For some reason IV had a better lobby system than V does. There were a lot of features that are missing now. One feature that the lobby needs is a 'Mute All' button. There is a way to mute players, but its under a menu and only does one player at a time. There have been times when I've joined a game with precious few seconds remaining before launch. So I'm stuck listening to the squeakers and heavy breathers until the next game. Seems like a trivial thing but it's also a quick fix.

Long Load Times: One of my biggest gripes. Sometimes it seems like I'm waiting forever to load a game rather than playing the game. I do play with the Wi-Fi on, but I've come across the long load times on ethernet as well. Also, if I get an invite, but the game is closed, it takes forever to get back to freeroam. There should be an easy way to tell if a game is full, or not have enough time left to enter, and quickly return you to freeroam.

Very good points. I've never played IV's multiplayer but I do agree, a mute all button definitely needs to be a must. Its one of the features I love when playing The Last Of Us multiplayer

And yeah, I've played GTA Online since it first came out on PS3 and while the loading screens are shorter on PS4, they are still pretty long for even the simplest transitions.

You can create a party and not invite anyone to it if you are on PS4 or Microsoft.

You can even cry if you want to, after all 'it's your party' :santa:

I do this in DMs if I am playing with randoms I don't talk to the other players anyway.

If I am playing with crew friend, I would invite them and the other team can't hear us (even in the lobby)

My critique,

The job coronas need to have an option to turn them off! Who uses them??? It's either the phone for a quick random job or the pause menu. All they do is clutter up the map & get in the way during free roam battles! They also make it almost impossible to tell where your friends are in the lobby with blue being EVERYWHERE!

I think he means during jobs. You would have to waste a few seconds getting the interaction menu up at the start, not useful in a race or something.

Ah a constructive criticism thread. It's like the b&m thread but less swearing right?

Here's what you should do, send every post into the mouth off or gtaonline general email at rockstar. That will do more than jacking each other off in this thread.

"You hate the ai spawns? What a coincidence I do too!"

"Well what an outstanding point of view you have! I whole heartedly agree. And us blowing each other on a fan forum will surely cause some ripples at rockstar enough for them to change the game from the ground up."

Thanks and have a great day.

Yeah but they're great for quick launching a specific job!

I do agree though about the freeroam battles, All it needs is an option to press right on the d-pad when you walk into them. Problem solved.

SirPhilMcKraken

The 3 main criticisms I have with the game are:

1) Long time spent in loading. You can spend so long in the clouds waiting to find a server or join a job or something and it really breaks the flow of the game considering single player made a big thing about no loading screens between free roam and missions which was superb. Shame they haven't managed to bring that into Online somehow.

2) No options for an invite only/crew session. The amount of times that a session with friends has been ruined by Los Santos finest is off the chart. I'm even saying being able to change everything, I mean a few key things like no police or traffic on or off. Pictures and filming has always been ruined with the police showing up.

3) Exaggerated pricing. I don't mean car prices as those I think are reasonable and would probably reflect real world costing. I'm talking about the upgrades and modifications. No-one in their right mind would pay $50,000 for a horn IRL, let alone the game. I understand they want to extend the game by making you farm jobs for money but making prices completely disproportional is not the way to do it.

Well I for one can understand why there is the ambient music while on mission, but I would like the option to turn it off. I also think it was a poor choice to not allow us to have a station always on or off. It seems like the game likes to make me hear the music I don't like. Some of their design choices don't add up. Make us hear ambient music for immersion, but not allow us to have cars turn radio to a specific station automatically because its not realistic, like I have a juke box on my back ready to play cinematic theme music everywhere.

Ok yeah, bad phrasing. I mean having options inside those sessions so say the host can turn off cops and traffic. I'm hoping the PC version has dedicated servers so we can do this!

I hate that there's all these jobs but no one wants to play them. There has to be some sort of incentive to get everyone to play captures/deathmatches/etc. Maybe every weekend have double RP/cash for certain types of jobs.

I also don't like how there's so much space in the ocean/underwater being unused. Maybe there can be something to get people to go out, like sunken cargo or crates.

Some people need to grow up and learn the difference between Critique and ''Bitching & Moaning''.

Honestly, the game is far from balanced and the majority of it's community are completely ignorant & immature. When someone brings up valid points and having people running their mouths at them ''Go to the Bitch & Moan thread'' it gives an impression as if the person trying to find reason is senselessly whining when he's not and not only that, it could also be taken as insulting. So please.

Grow up. The GTA Forums NEED a topic like this and people should have a chance at discussing on how to improve/fix the game. Examples:

''They should make it so that you can't shoot through cars with bulletproof backs. Too many people are abusing it.'' - Critics Thread

''This motherf*cker shot me through his bulletproof car! I f*cking hate those people!'' - Bitch & Moan Thread

It's that simple.

They should make it so that you can't f*cking shoot through f*cking cars with f*cking bulletproof, solid rear ends. Too many f*cking people are f*cking abusing it.

I suggest R* does some real life physics testing of shooting their million dollar cars f*cking rear "window" to see how their game should work.

I'm very sure C* will appreciate our thinly veiled bitching and actually finally fix what ales us.

I personally disagree with R*s implementation of passive mode as it is in a vast majority of cases used for offensive purposes.

I suggest R* change passive mode to send pussies passive players to a solo game where they don't have to worry about being killed.

While some replied to it with thoughtful and very helpful insight on what they thought or how they shared my opinions, others went on to call me a bitch, whiner, complainer, moaner, etc. Those responses were anything less than mature and clearly show a problem with the community and the game industry in general: rabid fanboys

Nnnnnope.

Not that "rabid fanboys" aren't a problem in this community. They clearly are. But you need to acknowledge their polar opposite, and an equally big (if not bigger) problem with this community: rabid haters. I don't like that word, "hater," but there's really no better one available. They are people who look every gift horse in the mouth; who can't express a critique reasonably or moderately, but act like every little problem is the end of the world; who are incapable of finding a less-loaded word than "broken" or "garbage" when discussing even the most minor issue; who think all developers are lazy and dishonest, rather than the more probable explanation for bugs (the devs are overworked and the code is incredibly complicated). They are people who invent stupid names like Cockstar and Crookstar, or who can't write about cash cards with inserting tired dollar signs to make $ure we get the point.

All both sides do is throw poo at each other like enraged monkeys. Anyone who is a legitimate moderate and sees both sides - who has criticisms of the game but also enjoys the aspects of it that are done well - feels caught in a war zone every time they set foot on a board like this. And I am automatically suspicious of anyone who pitches their tent in either camp willingly. I tend not to see eye to eye with them, regardless of the side they chose.

I'm curious as to the origins of the game, & still hung-up on the decision to go f2p..

I mean, who/when/why did this decision come about - was there at any stage a different, 'proper' multiplayer component?

My point is who made the decision & the impact it subsequently had on the quality & 'potential' of the game. (Off topic, but the amount of times the word potential has been used in reference to this game is insane, and should prob be starred out as if it were a cuss word!).

From what I can see, the creative minds behind the series (specifically the housers) weren't as hands on in the development of O as they have the other games in the series.

The writing, or whatever loose attempt at a plot there is in O is nigh on non-existent & removes from the game any modicum of progress. You might counter that by being offered a blank state, but I'd say it show's a lack of imagination from the writers - it's almost as if they just want to rush you into the world & spend money.. :roll eyes:

& that tutorial. Surely one of the worst gameplay mistakes r* have ever published - & to finish it on a lts?! Wtf?! It's like the guys who made all those great gta games & gta5 were like, "uh, I don't really care" or have never played thru the tutorial of O, else they'd be like, wtf did you do to our game?!

In terms of positive criticism well I'd be here all night. On a point above tho, they have set a precedent for the f2p model on consoles & they have done a half decent job of it (I.e. Progress isn't totally blocked w/o having to pay to unlock). It's obvious weighted in favour of cash cards, but they've struck a balance that should hopefully act as an example of the wave of f2p/Mmo's that'll follow. I doubt it will & expect to see more companies follow the mobile gaming method..

There's a few subjects to cover as well - their treatment of the fan base, whether they educate them enough - or even communicate enough.. But there you're on a slippery slope & eventually get into the calibre of people it attracts. It's just too big for its own good sometimes.. I think that's prob a fair critique of the work s a whole actually!
