LukeMayhem
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/asylum/identity This game looks amazing. If it ever actually makes it, that is. Edited January 28, 2015 by LukeMayhem
Stormingz
Looks pretty cool, only one problem, who's really going to want to play as normal "civilians"? In my opinion, I reckon everyone's either going to play as criminals, or cops. It'll just be GTA on another scale, I could be wrong. The concept sounds cool, but there will always be those little kids that just run around shooting at everyone. happygrowls
Looks amazing. Shame about it being on PC. (My laptop is designed for just web browsing) I'll watch people play it. It will probably reach it's goal in a few hours.
Wayne Daniels
I'm so glad they smashed their goal. This is going to be awesome. You'll be surprised, I am one of them, Look up Altis Life on Youtube. I would love playing as a law abiding citizen, with a dark side.

Coin
$150,000, for a mmo....with supposed dedicated servers and no subscription fee? yeah I'm staying away from that mess. To be fair, they do state that this is to fund a proof-of-concept to show to investors. But yeah, I'd still be cautious regardless.

They're building it with or without the $150 000, but now they have it means they can hire some extra help I guess. Its still a long way away. K^2
Best case scenario, virtual ghost town. But yeah, it's probably never leaving early beta stage. hornedturtle 1 Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns. Tchuck
These kinds of "be anything you want to be" is fine until half the population becomes griefers/trolls and the game is ruined. See DayZ.

hornedturtle
Soooo.....it will be like second life.... but on a much smaller budget and much stricter rules? Lol. I'd rather play skyrim with mods
Osho
Never pay-to-win? Hmm.. Not bad at all. Sounds like a good concept even for a GTA title but SP only ..hehe. Recently after the controversy over the "pay to win" thing around the game Shrouds of the Avatar, I'd want to wait and see whether they do stick with the promise of never including any type of microtransactions in the future. It can't be pay to win due to the only pvp mechanic mentioned being paintball. It's a life sim
Wayne Daniels
That's not true about no pvp, watch this much more in depth video. It starts at 2 mins if you want to skip Robbie talking. Edited March 2, 2015 by Wayne Daniels
Osho
@ hornedturtle Still its too early to believe anything about the project, and better to wait and see how things develop as it helps to build trust more easily than just reading about the concept. Many had backed SotA simply on the name of Richard Garriott; the creator of the old Ultima games. As days passed by many started to feel they are not selling something for what they actually crowdfunded with promises for another story driven rpg experience like ultima. You can check their official forum where pledgers have raised concerns about the future direction of the project. Though the truth will come out once the game finally gets complete and releases. tuareg
I too think it won't leave early access/beta stage, but it's sims on a whole other level. If they create a base game and keep adding to it i don't see why it can't get far. Maybe not as far as they'd like, but far enough (provided they have the manpower and funds to push it of course). Either way i won't be holding my breathe.
hvcciookay
I want it to work so badly, but it just won't unless it manages to win over alot of the SL, IMVU, Sims, and various browser based chat platform's audience. The game sounds like it thrives from player creativity, but like someone said earlier, everyone is going to want to be a criminal. When that happens, the economy collapses and both sides lose unless your EMS / Police cleaning up afterwards.

This is heavily policed though, and there are consequences like prison and if it comes to it, a ban. I'm having faith in this one. Hm. People still find a way. If PVP is controlled and can be toggled on and off, or there are areas where it's FFA, then I could see it having something. Reminds me of the old days of Runescape, where you could only get attacked in the Wilderness, so you could be safe and sound around cities and some dungeons, minding your own business, and then hop on to the Wilderness if you wanted some PVP going on. Specially good since you dropped all your money and all but your 3 most valuable items when dying. If it's all open and fair game, though... Will be tough. Fireman
You know Second Life still exists right? People do play this kind of stuff, for some reason. But yeah the scope is way too wide, there's no way they'll be able to deliver what they seem to promise. Edited January 2, 2016 by Fireman
Landotel
I'm just posting on what's new, and second life is more of a fantasy rather than full simulation. Actually, it's like half fantasy and half realistic, depending on how you play it.

Eck, I think it'll stay more realistic than a town where everyone is shooting eachother simply because there are guns, that's pretty much guaranteed to happen, assuming it ever goes live ofcourse. hvcciookay
Well I'm assuming you probably have to pass some sort of gub training to own a gun in the game. If you choose not to, you have to make your money somehow to purchase it in the first place, so I can't really see it being a giant deathmatch like some are predicting. I'm sure the devs have a way to combat the issue when it goes live if it hasn't already started the early access.
