Suggestions to decrease the download size of GTA V on steam

Recommended Posts

As per title give suggestions to decrease the download of 65 GB in steam

My Suggestions:

  • Compress the game
  • Provide 4K textures as separate download
  • Option to choose the language before download
  • Give FPS view as separate download (people having motion sickness will not use FPS view)

  • Give FPS view as separate download (people having motion sickness will not use FPS view)

That would be problematic for online mode as players are seen using the first person animations from the perspective of other players, a session would have to ensure everyone on the server has the "separate download" installed.

My Suggestions:

  • Compress the game
  • Provide 4K textures as separate download

1- Should already be kinda compressed.

2- No source of 4K textures yet.

3- Well, voices are in English anyway, it's only text so doesn't matter

4- I don't think it would work, also, you can deactivate it.

Those are moronic ideas since none of those will provide more than 10-20mb saved.

Also, who ever said PC will have 4K textures!?

People automatically assume that 4K resolution = 4K textures, which is not the case at all as much as people want to believe it.

It would be problematic because jobs can be locked into first person view (or so I've read, haven't played the new console version).

In any case i'm sure Steam is already going to keep the download size at the minimum possible, it's in their best interest to save bandwith.

20kb of code saved, worth it!

Well I guess he meant all the animations that comes with it.

Yeah, there's like 3,000 unique animations alone for weapons in first person view. Not sure how big of a file size that would make, a lot of them could simply be really small and short animations.

Even if it's 100mb, does it matter compared to 65GB?

I'm sure a big company like Rockstar appreciates the "advice" from a random person on the internet...

Well R* is actually taking all ideas they find, and use them if they want to.

However, they will not ask you, tell you nor give you credit to you (credits nor money).

dude what

  • it will probably be
  • who said there will be 4k textures
  • this game is not dubbed to any language other than english, the other languages are text only, they may not take even 1 MB each
  • this would be so problematic and would mean such a little decrease in game size

If downloading 65 GB is a problem for you, do it once, you won't die for it, then make a backup of the game via steam (right click on the game -> backup) and keep that backup (it has an installer and everything) wherever you like.

It is true though that Steam advertise the game as featuring a "dramatic improvements to [...] textures".

I still think that if it were 4K textures, it would have been advertised as 4K, at least for the brag.

There's no 4K textures. 4K resolution but not textures. Even if you took those out of your download it's sill gonna be huge as f*ck. Just schedule a day you want to download it and set your power and sleep options to never when downloading.

Why does download size matter?. Are some people on Internet caps?. If so I have a solution I used to use. my cap reset every month on the 3rd so I would start downloading late in the evening on the 2nd. This way it did not use all my usage in one fell swoop

My Internet speed is 1 Mbps with 8 GB FUP

If you are going to use Steam you can download the game in a friend's house, then make a backup of the game via steam, copy that to an external hard drive, take it home, and install the game.

Personally I would just buy the Physical Copy as 65 GB would use up a significant chunk of my Monthly download allocation.

Compressing the game to decrease the install size would also defeat the purpose of (for example) deliberately having Loss-less audio files.
