Well done for joining in and given your 10 cents worth.

 

I am planning to full the gaps between the islands but I need to first find the best places for them. That image on the first post is an idea not a working concept.

 

Still Appalachian/Rocky Mountains, Mississippi River, Route 66, The Great Lakes is a great idea.

 

I need to start researching images and stuff so I can model it. if you have maps or picture post them.

OH my, Ok it's a challenge to get some of those places modelled.

 

Looking at those lakes it's going into the real of Canada.. something to think about. I wasn't planning on remodelling all of North America :)

you know you could also cut corners and get pre modeled versions from a 3D warehouse... I know sketchup has the Mississippi river modeled

It really would not take THAT long to make the midwest, just copy and past some plains from SA maybe a farm or 2 and add a river and Then BAM you have a mid west!

​This is what I came up with, scale based on the first map. No matter what land is added, this might be good general positions for the islands.

I don't know how much room you have to work with and if having the islands that far apart or close to the edge would even work.

If any of this was added it could be just basic terrain, nothing crazy. And one lake would probably be easier, placed north of Liberty City and Midtown. It could even just go off the map to the north so you wouldn't even have to worry about Canada.

Route 66 would begin/end at Midtown and Los Santos (I'm guessing somewhere in Red County area), going though midwest. Maybe other roads connecting cities together. (roads and tunnels through mountains possibly an idea)

Mississippi River could run somewhere between Rockys and Midtown, through midwest to the south (again just a basic river, maybe with a few curves) That could end at another body of water (..gulf of mexico?) west of Vice City.

There's other rivers that might work with it or instead of Mississippi.

If you plan on making San Jose you can call it Tiburon...

 

Oakland could be called Cestnutflats

For the land linked version of the map, something like that would work. But I'd make the land go north of San Andreas, and also put MLL on the west side of the lake, so the shore is on the east.

I have my work cut out, building that kind of map would take me about a year in 3dsmax, but getting it in game takes much longer because of the buggy 3dsmax scripts.

 

I am just finishing on the VC docks where I will move onto other parts of VC jump onto that map.

 

I agree with Chicago on the west side of that lake I might even split them up and those mountains appear to be in the right place, is the SA map in the right place or should I break that part of the map down so Vegas, LA and SF are in the right place.?

The way they made SA with those cities is a bit off, but it did work for what Rockstar was going for, I suppose. It would be interesting to see the SA cities in a more correct form though.

 

I was already looking into real maps of Las Vegas, I'm not sure how much of that was changed in GTA and what direction is the real north for LV. (someone else might know?) LA could be more south and have the coast facing more west. Maybe not a full 90 degrees. I have no clue how hard it would be. SF looks really close to being correct the way Rockstar did it already. Maybe position it more north.

 

I think there's enough room to do it. The whole west coast is SA. I'm sure there's some way it COULD be done.

Just wondering, for the more real world, land locked version of the map, are you going to make LC more New York like with New York buildings and bridges? You could probably steal stuff from GTA IV.

I would have liked to used GTAIV and maybe V but the way things are from a legal standpoint, this might be frowned upon by R and might lead to future problems down the road. but yes LC will be redone. I would like to keep signature iconic buildings and land areas depending on how the map will in the end fit together but again all this would now have to be remodeled.

 

 

Pretty much everything and why I am spending alot of time on VC right now. I try to spend 2 or 3 hours each day depending on how I am and if nothing else needs my attention for most like house stuff etc; and how my illness affects me on a daily basis (I get tired more so) but I am in this for the long term, so I have the talent and the time to get the job done.

I have reached my goals with getting everything on one map for beta 69.5. Its time to move onwards and see what really can be done for VC, Rage and maybe other engines.

 

The project needs to move forward to keep things fresh because things was getting a little stagmeant.

- the prostitute 'experience' is offensively bad. They don't just hop in your car and get to it, it's a whole cutscene presentation that you can't cancel out of and it's just bad.

 

- They force realism on you in every aspect, but the cars twist/slide on an axis that's floating above the pavement.

 

- You die or get badly injured by slipping/stumbling on a slope, but flip your convertible with it's top down and you can roll around on the back of the car/your head like a turtle, and there's no visible damage.

 

- The cars handle more like bikes in the air than bicycles do.

 

- The explosions are all the same, an ugly effervescent black/yellow, and they transfer from car to car like a ghost. Not real looking at all. Compare them to the ones in Just Cause 2

 

- Compare EVERYTHING about this game to Just Cause 2, which came out 5 years ago... It's amazing how much worse gta is in many basic aspects.

 

- people catch fire like magic

 

- can't get out of a flying/tumbling car until it comes to a complete stop, and when you do, it's incredibly slow.

 

- Can't bail out of a vehicle, even at low speeds, without injury

 

- Near-invisible reticle

 

- Super-sensitive wanted meter, but you can't even aim a gun out a window without it firing automatically nonstop.

 

- No binoculars/telescope and the camera doesn't work offline

 

- Constantly pushing the ifruit crap and other online services even though there's no internet connection.

 

Way too many little things for it to be an accident. It's shady business and I won't support them after this.

 

 

Look at all the recent NSA/prism stuff... If you think rockstar isn't making money on more than just microtransactions, you're an idiot. Play the friend request/life invader mission a couple of times and look at the data farming stuff they're rubbing in our faces.

 

I was under the impression rockstar would be combining good elements from all their games, not just prettying it up and then stifling/throttling the control you have over everything...

I came across this in GTAV and I haven't even played it yet, No PS3 anymore however I wonder if I can improve upon these issues.

Thanks, I've been waiting too long for this too. Anyway I've decided to hold off adding Liberty City for now just to try and fix some annoying little bugs with Vice City (freezing, crashing etc.) Also now all cities/countryside has it's own IMG archive thanks to fastman92's IMG Limit Adjuster. Doing this helps with loading models as well as making it easier for modding purposes. There are now 103 archives all together in gta3.dat! (excluding skin.img, gta3.img, gta_int.img & player.img). I'm using United's Liberty City to make sure it can be added alongside SA & VC without hitting a limit that hasn't been cracked yet. If LC can be added then it will be removed and replaced with my LC (really difficult at the moment as I'm not very good at 3ds Max etc.) I really don't want to convert LC only to hit a limit, it would just be a waste of time.

Also been working on a 'secret island'. This island is in the middle of nowhere (at the moment south of SA, the y-cord is around -4500 to give you a idea). I'm using textures from IV for the island.

Cleo Fail......at least for some reason generic objects are not disappearing when you look out to the ocean....progress... No, I'm not spawning objects using Cleo, one day I'll need to remove SALA (buggy you know) so trying to see if Cleo could sort the map bounds for me.

Yup. You can also use a terrain generator like City Scape.

I am modelling this myself. I am not into taking short cuts.

 

How about find a 3ds modelling program yourself m8 and learn how to model - I am hoping once others see what I am trying to do here that I will get helping modelling all this.

 

Why I am doing all this. Once you have created something new there is a kind of.... 'I did this myself - satisfaction'

 

You cant beat that.

Progress for VC docks, It's not perfect and the Radiodity / prelighting needs redoing plus texture need to be appled to some of those faces..

Update. Have added United's Liberty City beside SA & VC and thankfully didn't hit any deadly limit. United's LC roughly uses IDs from 13168 to 14584 so I'm not short of available IDs :catspider: What to do with all these free IDs I've yet to decide, but still the biggest problem for this mod is the dreaded map bounds! (United LC was only a test and will not in any way shape or form will be released in this mod) (if this mod ever gets released that is!)

Here's my Cleo script at the moment, CAN ONLY SPAWN GENERIC OBJECTS outside the map bounds. I'm sure the smart cleo guys here will no doubt say that a noob has done it....and they would be right! Feel free to play around with it or tell me how dumb I am! I couldn't figure out what value to use for the -fBounds so objects placed west or south of SA won't show up, works for north & east.
