★ Special SA MOBILE - Chain Game for GTASnP Update

Recommended Posts

Good news everybody! It's official. Samutz is planning to make a few updates to GTASnP. How many updates depends on how much info we can gather within the next several weeks while he has a window in his schedule. We will have another topic for suggestions soon so start saving up your ideas. (A random idea here is okay but please don't make a long list or clutter the topic with discussion.)

One important update is adding a mission checklist for Android and iOS players. Adding the checklist shouldn't be too tough but verifying it is working correctly is a bit of a challenge without saves to use for reference. When we worked on this for PC we could always pull up a history of Chain Game saves since everything was so well documented and complete.

I suggest SA Mobile players start a chain game for documenting a save to 100% step by step. Don't worry too much about complicated tasks that would be easier with a few simple edits, like the export missions. The usual CG rules need to be changed a bit. A maximum of 1 completion per turn, but less is okay if you have a purpose, just document everything and try to keep it simple. Some deaths and arrests is good so we can track the changes, no need to get sloppy though, or cheat. There doesn't need to be any turn rules except to avoid overlapping each other. Don't delete mistakes but cross them out, they might help. Maybe give the other players a little time before taking another turn, or whatever you can work out.

Oh wait, safehouses. One per save so may as well call the whole batch when the island opens up. Burglary isn't a completion but needs to be separate. Um... Maybe add 2 mill cash to start. (Horse betting is better than editing, seed with Burglary? Don't need much.) What else?

I don't have time to plan this properly before dashing off to work, so please discuss ideas. I can give some more thought on this on Sunday. I don't see why you couldn't get started in the meantime.

It's okay if it's just you, and hopefully khsh97 to since I know he can handle minor tweaks to help you out, and if enough other people join you can do another chain game and do it right. You can also split the task, do a master save in one topic and mission run in another and we can worry about races and stuff at the end.

How many updates depends on how much info we can gather within the next several weeks while he has a window in his schedule.

Just to clarify, I haven't set a deadline or anything. I just planned to do the bulk of the updates around February as that's the site's 10th anniversary and GTA V (PC) was originally going to be released on Tuesday. If info comes up afterwards that can be used to make more improvements, I can still work on it.

Sweet. Three players should be plenty to get started, and there's a reasonably good chance you will pick up a player or two once the ball gets rolling. Chain Games can draw out lurkers - that's actually why I finally joined GTAF.

Despite reassurances from Samutz for continuing support I'd still like to place a little urgency to this special SA Mobile Chain Game. I think a reasonable goal for a normal Chain Game is about 6 weeks, which I think extends just a bit beyond the optimal build window. A fast game with normal 3/6 turn rules takes about 3 weeks, so a big push can bail us out easily if we get behind. The CG saves will be useful for development but the whole game doesn't need to be completely finished until the end when we need to verify everything once just to be sure.

I suggest we get started soon and enjoy the game rather than work really hard to finish quickly. Let's plan things to make a game out of it. The problem is, I'm a not a good CG host, and CGs are best if planned by the players. The PC Chain Game works really well. Maybe start with that as a standard and make a few adjustments for the specific requirements of this SnP round.

Please discuss how you would like to play and choose a host and starter save for the round.

One strategy is to allow khsh97 the one-time use of cleo on a new game to SaveAnywhere in the Jefferson Alley. Just run away from the bike until the safehouse icons appear and the radar blinks, then run back to the starting spot to save. Or maybe you can get a quicksave to use for a starter.

Everyone knows how to disable Cleo for turns, right?

HeroBrineR007

Normally if you start the game (when you don't have any other saves) and shut it down after CJ is in the alleyway, the Resume button will bring you there. That save could be the starter save?

And yes. It's just going to CLEO app and clicking on Uninstall.

Anyone of us can host it. We will be using Android v1.05 save since they are compatible with iOS too.

Resuming save.... These slot 10 saves are not normal saves and twice the size of normal saves so slot 10 saves cannot be used as a starter save.

Orion, do you people use cleo for starter save? What strategy you people use for PC CG?

In my opinion, A one-time use of cleo for starter save should be fine.

What do you mean by you people? Sorry, that joke probably doesn't translate well. In the US just about everyone has been offended to have been arbitrarily grouped into you people at some point or another. That phrase almost always has racially charged connotations and is never used in polite conversation. So, grammar tip of the day: add that to your internal filter. (As far as the larger issue goes; if you don't think that way then you won't be at risk of saying it.)

Yes, the custom saves are made with a cleo script. Originally we used modified data files and hex editing to add a few things, then when someone learned how to tap into the scripts even more features were added. Cleo didn't really change what we did as much as how we did it. Cleo is a lot safer strategy.

In this situation a super clean 0% starter save is ideal, and khsh97 already knows how to make one. I think that's the best plan but if you wanted we could add a back door into the Jefferson safehouse that would disappear the next time some else loads the save.

Thoughts on the turn rules: How about we allow one player to call a turn in advance? The idea is to allow the current turn to continue for a half hour so the player can finish up a multi-task turn - like buying all the properties one at a time.

By "you people", I mean chain game development team. I am sorry. I didn't knew about what it mean in US. I will never use that again.

I am going to make clean 0% starter save.

I am fine with that advance turn rule.

No worries. It's just that your English is strong enough now that it's easier to get into trouble with unknown connotations.

So, is anyone anxious to volunteer for the job of host? I am full up to my eyeballs with the checklists variables, and can't even play.

If you leave it up to me I'll try to recruit Brine for the job. I'm not sure if he's ready for the job just yet but I'm convinced he's ready to try. It's a small project with experienced players and a limited scope. Enthusiasm should be enough to carry the day.

I'd be interested if I knew how. I mean I know how chain games work and have played some of the GTA III ones I just mean in terms of uploading saves. Which service is best to use? How is it done transferring the save from the device to the PC?

http://gtasnp.com/ [this allows the Helper to load the save into the slot of his/her choice]

Take note that this particular topic is in regard to MOBILE devices Not the PC chain game.

Yes, I am aware it's for mobile devices. But can it literally be plugged in and I can load a save straight up? Last time I attempted to upload a save I was told to download a variety of programs that will retrieve the files from my iPad, will SnP do that itself?

HeroBrineR007

You don't need a PC. You just go to http://gtasnp.com/and browse trough your files and upload.

Atleast it's like that for Android.

About hosting, i don't know how lol.

Oh wow, it's that simple? Almost seems too good to be true!

If that's the case then I'm certainly on board!

Yeah, the web browser should handle the files, but things might be different. These are just user data files and shouldn't need to be protected, but Apple always has weird ideas about some things. An SnP App is an interesting idea but it is my understanding that it is too expensive to develop on that platform.

Brine. I kind of figured that this would be a new task. And I'm not sure I'm the best one to advise. I could host if I had the time but I don't think I'd ever be a good host. The basic job is pretty easy. You just need to step up and lead; pick a starter save, post the rules (just exceptions to normal CG rules might be eaiser) and get everyone to agree, maybe post a checklist if you want to keep it updated or recruit help for the job, post the starter save and say go. Then if something odd comes up you listen to the options and make a decision about how to continue.

Being a good host is a little trickier. A good host will set the proper tone for cooperative play and build a community to support the game. It's a job that suits people with strong social skills. I tend to get wrapped up in the technical issues rather than supporting the needs of the players. You could try asking JAJ. I think he's just naturally good at the job but perhaps he knows the secret.

Super clean beginning 0% normal starter save: http://gtasnp.com/download/45825

When I load the save, the camera faces north: http://imgur.com/4Ls6bJI

Orion, do you mean normal 0% starter save or CG 0% starter save?

Normal 0%. This is a baseline save strand so nothing too fancy. The CG4Android saves are a long way from being ready. I can fix the time with an editor but I'm not sure it's needed - not too tough if you want it that way. Usually we roll the clock back to 00:30 just before saving.

khsh97. Yeah, I know. Rotation is usually fixed by the save thread but we bypassed that with showsavescreen. The best spot is facing north towards the stairs, and not too close to the back wall or it'll mess with the camera (one step east of screenshot). I usually add a bike spawn next to the stairs but I want to keep this save close to default. Odd; your screenshot shows CJ facing east. Did it load that way? On PC CJ is also facing north.

I don't think it will matter where the camera faces. If it actually matters, then its very easy to change it and also the time.

BTW, Are you going to participate in chain game for Android?

You guys lost HeroBrineR007 and MrBrineR (Same Person). He's banned for good...

He was banned for giving his opinion in the topic which about opinion. The only mistake which he did was creating another account. Now, he got busted. So sad, getting banned for just giving your opinion. I am having sad feeling that we lost HeroBrineR007 and MrBrineR(same person).

Lethal Vaccine

I am not saying he is stupid, but afterall, he is only 14 years old. At this age, you're young and dumb and quite impulsive and make quick decisions which might not be very good due to not thinking things through.

Like you said, he shouldn't of made a second account. Instead, he should of just waited 48 hours. However, being 14 and impatient is.....Well, being 14 and impatient. You, me, and the next guy was like that at that young age, too. Bad decision making, etc...

I mean, "HeroBrineR" and "BrineR" is like the SAME thing, if you want to stump the mods, at least come back with a different username not remotely close to your previous one :p:p

He keep on mentioning that he is banned. In that opinion topic he replied from MrBrineR account to the quoted post of HeroBrineR007. But he was just 14 and innocent... not understanding that multiple accounts are not allowed at GTAF. I may have done that mistake if I was 14 but I am 17... a little bit mature. I think we should take it to the PM if we want to discuss it otherwise we can get in trouble with the moderation.
