DEALUX
I did that already and it doesn't freeze. It shouldn't since that's no different than using the PC for hours. It was on since yesterday and it works fine. It's just something to do with turning off the monitor. Could this be an NVIDIA thing? I guess if the GPU freezes in this locked\timeout state then the whole system stops running. sivispacem
If it were a GPU issue I'd expect it to just fail to restore the screen rather kill the whole system. But stranger things have happened. DEALUX
Tested it again (after the chipset driver install) and it still happens. It actually occurs less than an hour after I lock it. I will test it now to see if it happens if I lock it for 10 minutes or less. Edit: The freeze doesn't occur within 10 minutes or less. Edited March 28, 2016 by Kristian. Jitterdoomer
Does Windows 10 can able to run on an ancient computer like my rusty old Acer Computer that came with Windows XP Media Center Edition? I had it on my balcony but it didn't even used it because my brother gave me a better gaming PC that he made from 2008 and I installed Windows 10 on it. Plus, I made my own installation disc from the Media Creation Tool that was used to upgrade all my PCs to Windows 10. Also you have to use ISO file as Windows 10 cannot be upgraded directly.
yoječ
Depends on how ancient it is. The biggest issue you might face are the drivers. First check if there are drivers for everything you need, for Windows Vista or higher. If there are, you should be fine - Vista drivers (and newer) for the most part work fine on 10. DEALUX
Is there any way to disable the obnoxious automatic driver installation in Windows 10? I mean what the hell is it even good for? Is there any device in existence that doesn't come with proprietary drivers? It's a f*cking nuisance of a feature. Every f*cking time I turn on my computer (essentially) I have two sound drivers installed. The sh*tty Windows one and the Realtek one. There is apparently a driver conflict that's causing the sound distortion problems I mentioned in earlier posts and whether this is caused by Windows automatically installing its own drivers is hard to tell, but at the same time I don't need two sound drivers. I already have the proprietary ones installed. 65536 1 The Audiophile Thread XB271HU | TESORO Gram XS | Xtrfy MZ1 | Xbox Elite v2 | Hifiman Sundara | Fiio K9 Pro i7 4790K 4.4 GHz | GTX 1080 Ti | 32 GB Crucial DDR3 | ADATA 256GB | Samsung 860 PRO 2TB Xbox | Xbox 360 | Xbox Series X | PS2 | PS3 | Google Pixel 6 Pro

DEALUX
Simply put, you cannot permanently delete Windows drivers, only proprietary ones. The second method in that article is not helpful since I do not know which update contains the sound driver stuff. Edit: At least there are some good news for me. My PC no longer freezes upon monitor timeout\lock. The last couple of updates seemed to have fixed the issue for me. Edited April 17, 2016 by Kristian. If you're on Android you'll need Cortana installed for it to work, if you're on Windows 10 Mobile it'll work natively without Cortana. https://channel9.msdn.com/Events/Build/2016/B871 Flachbau

I've left my PC to download some stuff or render a bunch of videos on several occasions. yoječ
That's why I don't have updates turned on anymore. This, and the fact that updates f*cked up my PC several times in the past. Hell, back when I had Windows 8.1 I couldn't even keep it updated, because one of the required updates caused Windows to stop booting. I don't have time nor patience for this bullsh*t. Sorry, Windows Update had to restart and ruin everything even though it claims it's only doing that when your PC is in idle. f*ck you Microcock. How long do you delay updates for? It takes about two weeks of delaying an update before they start giving you notifications on the update and then eventually installing it after you delayed it more while Windows thinks you're away from your PC. I find it hard to believe that since the last cumulative update released that you couldn't find the time to update your PC on your own. The fact that so many people are so pissy about such an issue is ridiculous. How hard is it to keep on top of updates that release once a month and don't 'force' themselves to install unless you delayed the update multiple times for a good week or two. Update your software, it's really not that hard. EDIT: Oh and in the Anniversary update you'll be able to set your own active hours to ensure updates won't install at certain times of the day. (ofc, you won't get the update if you turn updates off, which is a pretty silly thing to do) Edited May 15, 2016 by TJGM
DEALUX
I never get any notifications about updates. That sh*t installs itself whenever it feels like it and then decides to reboot the computer. I had to select the option to manually restart it or something along those lines. yoječ
Well, that took longer than expected. I haven't been able to install this update through WU on any of my PCs. My laptop claimed that all updates were already installed (no they weren't), while my main rig got stuck on searching for new updates. In the end I've ended up downloading Win10 Anniversary Update ISO from MS website and updating it this way. No issues so far. Creed Bratton
I turned it off from the Control Panel settings. I want it removed from my system entirely. There's no point in running two antivirus programs at once. If you disable it it won't run. But you'd also probably like to remove it from Context Menu. If so: http://www.askvg.com/tip-remove-scan-with-windows-defender-option-from-context-menu-in-windows-10/ Update went well. I mostly don't care because I'm using Xubuntu for pretty much everything other than gaming these days. But I did notice that once I got rid of all the bloatware and Windows.old folder etc. the installation was 5gb lighter than before the update and the system now uses 4% less RAM than it did before the Anniversary update. So for now it's alright. Dark mode is absolutely laughable though. Edited August 3, 2016 by The Yokel
TJGM
Dark mode is absolutely laughable though. Since the apps are universal the dark mode is designed with AMOLED phones in mind. They should probably add an option for non AMOLED displays though, as it looks pretty crap on everything else.
Jitterdoomer
Upon installing this update, I cannot able to skip past the Lockscreen when booting up as I applied it when unlocking the workspace. I hope there's a workaround for this when booting up because it's wasting my time trying to get into the login screen which was slower compared to the previous build. Windowd Defender is part of Windows 10 for those who don't have enough money to spend for anti-virus software.
