For me, GTA San Andreas is the best game. It is one of my first GTAs I ever played. It has grown to me with the amazing storyline, missions, features, map, characters and everything else.

You know you played a GTA too much when you know the map like you know your hand

Overall it's V. There are things about it that bother me, sure, but to me it's the most refined entry in the series and when it's good, it's SO good.

 

So my ranking would be something like this:

 

1. V

2. IV + Episodes

3. San Andreas

4. Vice City

5. III

6. 2

7. Grand Theft Auto

I was still right. SA and VC aren't running away with it like I thought they would. GTA IV is the next in line after SA and ahead of VC haha.

I like the story and gameplay and Niko is more likable than all of the protagonists in GTA V but GTA IV has always been my least favorite. The PC port is an abomination that will never be forgiven. GTA V ran better than GTA IV on my last PC.

Excluding the top down games and CTW, III is my least favorite. I don't hate it or anything but there's a lot things I don't like about it it's still an enjoyable game though.

Out of the whole series, I'd have to say that V is by far the game I enjoyed the least, both in terms of story and the game itself. Yes, the storyline was a blast whilst playing through it, but it just seemed far too OTT at times, trying too hard to be like a Hollywood action film, all the while detracting from the roots of what made GTA so great to me. Apart from Michael dealing with therapy issues, it just didn't feel like any of the characters were dealing with anything that made you feel any emotion for them whatsoever.

 

Upon completion of the story, the game itself is by far the most boring GTA in the series too. Just feels so empty and pretty meaningless.

Having Played GTA V for the last couple of weeks, its standing on my list has improved.

Grand Theft Auto III is my favorite. VCS imo is the worst. III is the most consistently good GTA. And VCS is a rushed mess. It is the only GTA that I felt Rockstar slacked off on. The game is glitchy as hell and imo has the worst story and characters of the whole series.
