What is your favourite / least favourite GTA?

Here is my official order from fav to least favorite GTA.

 

1. Online: SUPER cool and original GTA title! In fact, the most out of any GTA game there is.

2. Advance. Only the best GTA title in the HD era. Second best overall only being beaten by GTA Online.

3. V. Do I really even need to explain? It is TOTALLY deserving of the bronze award of best GTA games, being beaten by only Online and Advance!
4. LCS. WAY better than GTA 3. Screw that game! We’ll get to it later though.

5. VCS. A HUGE improvement of VC.

6. 1. Who cares about this game, really? Online, V, and Advance are SO much more original that it’s scary. Here is where games start to get bad.
7. II. See above, only this one is even worse. A totally unnecessary addition to the franchise.

8. CTW. Worst top down GTA game. HANDS DOWN! As if GTA IV/EFLC wasn’t already bad enough, we have THIS atrocity of a continuation!

9. SA. BORING! Stop comparing it to V and Online already in both positive and negative aspects! It’s clearly inferior to both games!
10. IV, TLAD, and TBOGT. Or as I like to call them GTA Snore and Crapisodes from Puberty City. Please don’t crucify me for stealing your catchphrase, ChiroVette.

11. VC. This game sucks! Need I say more?
12. III. Literally the worst game in the entire franchise.

San Andreas for sure as the best. Basically everything about it is perfect except for a few things, and it was revolutionary for the time. 

 

V is definitely the worst. It just doesn't feel like an actual GTA game. I could go into detail for a long time but i'd rather keep it short. 

 

Overall worst to best ranking from what i've played: 

V(read above)

VCS(honestly couldn't ever really get into the story that much and it felt like a watered down version of the original VC even though it's technically a more sophisticated game)

LCS(very underrated but lacks in certain areas)

III(very fun but also dated in certain aspects)

TLAD(great but could be much better)

IV(amazing but slightly less enjoyable than others)

VC(wonderful homage to things like Scarface and Miami Vice and is a blast even when you just turn it on cause you've become bored and have nothing better to do)

TBOGT(genuinely probably the game i've played the most. amazing story and like VC it's just fun to mess around for an hour or so when you've got time to kill)

Also i should mention that i don't dislike any of these there's just some that are a lot better than others.

I personally have more fun playing VCS than V, but not LCS. It's just apples and oranges to me, though. And nah, V is not the worst imo either.

In terms of just roaming around with cheats i would say i've had more fun in V than in the stories games but overall V is definitely worse tbh.

My opinion on worst to best (MAIN GTAs only after GTA 3):

 

Grand Theft Auto The Lost and the Damned (NEVER PLAYED: Just never got around to it as i was never really interested in the biker gang theme, but i will give it a shot one day)

Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories (NEVER PLAYED: Never was ported to any platform I use, my best option is emulation on PC yet im still stuck with 30fps so its not enjoyable to play)

 

Grand Theft Auto Advance: Easily the worst, because of the GBAs limitations and boring mission design, maybe could have been cool if it was a console/pc game.

Grand Theft Auto III: Very nostalgic game but it isn't really special in any way apart from being groundbreaking in 2001, as much as i love GTA 3, its not an "amazing" game.

Grand Theft Auto Chinatown wars: Loved this game as a kid, very unique and fun to play through, just a shame it was never a proper console/pc game.

Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories: Really liked this game, great side missions, has some of the craziest missions in the series and i really liked the mafia theme in the story.

Grand Theft Auto IV: GTA fan elitists worship GTA 4 sooo much and I get it, it is a really good game but it wasnt as memorable personally as the other games were to me. GTA 4 was my intro to the series and i remember more cruising around the city other than the main story, but i do still love this game, a tad bit overrated though

Grand Theft Auto The Ballad of Gay Tony: This was the much more memorable version of gta 4 to me that i really loved, im never a fan of dark storylines in games which is why i prefer this over GTA 4, despite being super short it was great fun with great missions and characters

Grand Theft Auto Vice City: Still a bit of a basic game but a huge jump from GTA 3, As much as i can admit vice city is really good, i loved it the least of the 3d gtas personally even though it is definitley a superior game to GTA 3. Introduces many new gameplay mechanics and features and has an interesting satisfying story, the game could have really benefited from a longer campaign though, i loved the game and story and wish there was more of it

Grand Theft Auto V: Newest game in the series = bad, get over yourselves... I bet when GTA 6 is out everyone is gonna praise GTA 5. 3 characters was innovative and worked really well and played into the gameplay flawlessly. GTA 5 has hands down the best missions in the entire series and no other game comes close, no mission feels generic and unnecessary, story is amazing aswell and gets alot of hate for no reason, although i do see why people complain about weak antagonists.

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas: This is the perfect game in my opinion, my favorite game of all time: best story and best map/world. This game had it all, literally. 3 cities, massive customization, lots of variety, most memorable game, great mission design, best characters in the series, great music and atmosphere and a great length. This game is the peak of video games and i dont think any other game can come even close to being as good as san andreas

You know in the entire time I've been on this forum I've never seen someone say they don't like GTA V just because it's the "newest" game in the series because that logic is completely insane. It's almost 9 years old for one thing and it's only the most recent (I refuse to call it "newest") because R*/Take Two want to milk it and GTAO for every penny instead of giving their fanbase a new game which should've happened a long time ago. It's 2022 and we still have this relic from 2013 being ported to current gen consoles. 

 

As for everyone praising GTA V when GTA VI comes out once again completely insane logic. If anything at all given the lukewarm reception to the current gen versions I get the feeling a good portion of the fanbase will probably be happy to finally get a new game to even care anymore about GTA V.

Dont blame GTA onlines nonsense on GTA 5. Its not gta 5s fault that we still dont have a new gta game so the idea that GTA 5 sucks because its online component is milked and dried like crazy is completely insane. Also, nobody is going to go and say they dont like it cause its "new", nobody admits to that but thats how people are. My point is when GTA 4 was newer people were comparing it to san andreas and how it was such a step back, and now people are doing the same with GTA 5 and all of a sudden loving GTA 4, and the very same thing will happen with 6.

GTA V is being charged money for its current gen offerings yet you want to pretend it’s only GTAO being milked? lol. Whatever you say.

They ported GTA 5 and online to new gen, why would they only port the online when the singleplayer is in the same game? And why would they give the story mode for free? Have they given away any game for free permanently? I dont see your point

 

My point is GTA 5 gets too much hate because of peoples nostalgia, people overlook what gta 5 does very well and only focus on the negatives because its the "cool" thing to do when its the newest thing. Thats how it works with every piece of media ever. Sequels to a movie? ppl will always trash the new one and praise the old one its a cycle. No different for GTA.

 

I never claimed gta 5 was the greatest game ever, but it is absolutely better than gta 4 in my opinion. But hey its an opinion, i get you have a gta 4 pfp and want to defend it but i promise the game is not as good as you remember

You clearly don't own a current gen console. It isn't uncommon for developers to give people free upgrades to the current version if they have already own the last gen version. Hell CDPR done that with Cyberpunk 2077. R* could've done that with GTA V, but nope.

Never understood this "it's cool to hate GTA V" mentality. Since when is pointing out legitimate flaws a "cool" thing to do? GTA V has its fair share of them and people rightfully point them out. That isn't nostalgia my friend.

 

As for the cycle so you're suggesting every sequel in every series gets automatically trashed upon release? Take a look at Elden Ring. I know it's not technically apart of any particular series, but everyone recognises it as a Soulsborne game yet it's received overwhelming praise. If you want a home grown R* example then just look at RDR2.

And I never said that you think it's the greatest game ever so it beats me why you're being so defensive and oh you "promise" me GTA IV isn't as good as I remember huh? lol. Of course. I mean I was only playing it yesterday and because some random on a GTA forum with a generic username says it isn't as good as "I" remember it must be true. It's all a figment of my imagination.

Instead of telling people to "get over themselves" because they don't like GTA V as much as you why not just man up and deal with their opinions too instead of beating this tired, stone age, dead horse mentality that GTA V only gets hated because of it being new and it's all going to magically disappear when GTA VI comes out in 2057 on whenever R* gets up off their arses and releases the bloody thing?

I fully agree with the first point, there were only minor upgrades in e&e, its inexcusable that they charged money for the port. Sure gta 5 has flaws but people refuse to look at the good side of the game and trash and exaggerate its flaws; like people trashing the game for not having the ability to throw bricks and burgers at peds. gta 4 is a great game but when i went back and played it last year i really didnt like its gameplay and the way it felt, the story is good but the gameplay and mission design is way improved in 5, which i value a lot when looking at if a game is good or great. And yes we are allowed to have our own opinions but people overly trash gta 5 and overly praise gta 4, again, my opinion.

We really need to come to a mutual understanding so it’s good it seems to be heading that way.

 

It’s unfortunate that your previous visit with GTA IV didn’t seem to go well, but could it be you were never really a big fan of its gameplay, mission design etc to begin with? 
 

I can somewhat understand what you’re saying about people criticising trivial sh*t in GTA V like not being able to pick up things like bricks, burgers etc, but then again I still remember San Andreas fanboys doing things like that when they trashed GTA IV back in the day for not being able to interact with peds or something. People who dislike something are always going to linger on it and make it out to be a bigger deal than really is. It’s just how it is mate.

At the end of the day if you love GTA V that’s all that matters. Despite how I may come across I don’t even really dislike GTA V. Of course it has its good qualities and it would be unfair or unjust to not acknowledge them, but at the same time I can understand why it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

Good attitude, bro. I honestly like III, VC, and IV/EFLC the best but at the end of the day, does it really even matter which GTA someone likes the best? Same rule applies to other franchises like Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed, which both rank just below GTA in that regard. I mean, sure, some games in the same franchise can be your cup of tea with others not so much with some people while others might like them all.

V for me has too many shortcomings and Blaine County for the most part is useless. I'd go as far as to say that V's San Andreas is Rockstars' worst map LAYOUT so far. The lack of believable NPC behavior and interiors is too much in my opinion.

Favourite - GTA 3

 

Dark atmosphere, silent protagonist, unique map with a certain charm to it, gangs, new millennium, and much more. This was also the first GTA I ever played, while obviously dated in some fashion, I can always overlook it when I'm driving around exploring this huge open world and listening to the radio.

 

Least Favourite - none

 

They are all equally charming in there own ways, the 2d games introducing really over the top quirky but overall fun open world and gameplay, the 3d giving us a whole new way to play these games.  and the hd bringing in a more level of maturity and modernization while maintaining what makes grand theft auto the way it is.

GTA San Andreas was a pretty good game but i didnt think it was as good as everybody hyped it up to be. In 2004 i could see why this game was good. But it never hooked me in like GTA IV and V

ranking from best to worst (Not actually bad, but the least good):

 

1. VC. the soundtrack is unbelievably perfect, the story is perfect, Tommy is the best protagonist they ever made, the game truly makes you feel like the boss at the end of the story.

2. LCS. The best LC-focused one. Toni Cipriani is an absolute sigma in this game. My only complaint is that you can't recruit people.

3. III. Pretty amazing. First 3D gta game. The story is relatively simple but i still think it's one of the best titles.

4. IV. It took me a while to finish it but it's great. I think Niko needs to return. I just wish you could purchase assets.

5. 2. Underrated. the "choose your gang" system needs to return.

6. 1 + expansion packs. If you thought gta 2 was underrated, this one has been unjustly forgotten. It's actually pretty solid apart from being unable to save during chapters.

7. GTA sa. Oh boy i am gonna get hate for putting this one low aren't i? I didn't find it as enjoyable as VC, the map is too big and the countryside is empty, assets have basically vanished apart from wang cars and the rc shop, the statistics turn pointless once you complete side content (like what's the point of stamina if it just becomes infinite anyway after paramedic?), the hunger system is annoying, and the story is way too long. It can still be very fun tho aside from flaws.

8. GTA 5. I liked it, but it's too scripted.

Of all the games I've played, my favorite is SA because it has a ghetto theme. V is also impossible not to mention as one of the best.

I'd have to say that my favorite GTA is GTA IV and for my least favorite, GTA 1. 

 

TBH I never played GTA 1, at least I dont remember because I was very young (27 now, idc if y'all know) but I have memories of GTA 2 (Specifically driving a bus over an opened up draw bridge. Maybe I was 9 or + or - lol). GTA 3, VC, San Andreas I absolutely loved. And then came GTA IV. Imho, the best GTA to date but it's just that, my opinion. GTA V looks pretty good, but it's lacking in many other stuff. 

 

Gotta say though, San Andreas had the most to do in it with the amount of content provided.

I actually think that memory might have been GTA 1, in that one buses are much more common in traffic (it's a rare vehicle in gta2) and there is an unfinished bridge not far from where you start.

That sounds correct yes. I too was thinking that I must be misremembering it and maybe it was GTA 1. Still tho that's like the only memory I have of it lol. Idk if I could stomach trying to go back and play it nowadays
