OG Viking
I insert the original DVD disc 1 into the drive, and I get this window... What's this? I get the same result when I run Autorun.exe in XP SP3 compatibility mode. When I click the left button the installation starts, and when I click the right button it quits. So I click the left button and get to select language, then Windows says the program got compatibility problems. I run it in Vista and XP mode but nothing helps. NTAuthority
seems like your DVD got damaged or you have some awkward file system filters Edited January 19, 2015 by NTAuthority OG Viking and GAMIR_GTA 2 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/762412-problems-installing-iv-on-windows-81/#findComment-1066848028 Share on other sites
Sadra..
That looks weird. Can you try putting the disc into another PC? Just to see if the disc is fine. OG Viking
I unpacked the DVD yesterday and it looks to be in mint condition. Both the cover and the discs. I don't know anything about file system filters. I don't got any other computers here now, but I'll visit someone later. They've got an old PC with Win XP that can't run the game, but it should probably be able to run the disc. This is what it looks like when I run the autorun.exe on an old PC with Windows XP: I didn't attempt to proceed with the installing because this old PC is failing the hardware requirements by a large margin. Any ideas why it looks so Chinese? The game was bought in Europe and there's nothing Chinese on the cover. Red Hat
Try to replace your discs. That might help. OG Viking 1 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/762412-problems-installing-iv-on-windows-81/#findComment-1066871377 Share on other sites
OG Viking
Yeah maybe the disc got a software error to begin with. It's not a hard error, the discs are in mint condition as I already said. On the cover it says "Games for Windows Live". I thought it just meant that it's for Windows (I didn't notice "Live"), but now I found out that it means more than that. It's apparently a Microsoft brand or trade mark name. For f*cks sake, why do they choose a brand name that sounds like a general platform description?! Is this a special PC version that needs additional software and/or a Microsoft account? Damn it I just wanted a plain PC version. I haven't got Microsoft Live and I don't want it either. It seems I do need new discs. But do I need a different PC version? Thanks Edited January 24, 2015 by OG Viking Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/762412-problems-installing-iv-on-windows-81/#findComment-1066873348 Share on other sites

Thanks Games for Windows Live is just an online service by Microsoft. No, your's is not a special PC version. Every copy of GTA IV comes with Games for Windows Live. It get's installed into your computer automatically when you install the game. Every copy of GTA IV PC is the same, there isn't any different PC version. Just a tip, once you get your discs replaced, update your game to the latest patch from the link below. GTA IV Patch 1.0.7.0 Thank you for clearing this up.I hope they have new discs. I need to find the receipt, I'm not completely sure where I bought the game. I've never had a bad disc before so this is a first. Are you sure the patch is a good idea? For San Andreas the patches are doing more bad than good, they remove modding ability and on Steam it's even worse; they removed music from the game. Yeah, try to run the game without that patch and if you ran into some sort of a problem then simply update the game. OG Viking
I don't know how old patch 1.0.7.0 is and how many times IV have been patched, but it's possible that new discs are patched. I guess you're familiar with it since you recommend it. Is it in any way limiting or removing things from the game? Is modding possible? On San Andreas, they blocked modding, and they took away some things that were in the PS2 version, such as the sounds from prostitutes during "action". Red Hat
Patch 1.0.7.0 is the latest patch by Rockstar for GTAIV. New discs are not patched to the latest update. I don't think the patch is removing things from the game, and yes modding is possible. Tough a few old mods might be incompatible. If you are thinking of playing the game online, then the game will automatically update your game to the latest patch, when you try to log in to Games for Windows Live. OG Viking
It's good to hear they didn't patch away things. Live = forced updating? Lol them bastards. :-p But I guess it makes sense, if many people play together it could be problems if they had different game versions.
