You've gotta be kidding me. Why on earth would they not max out their promotional screenshots. They're supposed to be bullshots.

 

 

Because it's showcasing 4K. What type of a goddamn rig that can max out GTA V at 4K, while maintaining AT LEAST 30 FPS?

It's a screenshot, the performance should not matter. Rockstar can easily put the game at 4K max settings and the game could run at ~10fps, but that wouldn't matter because it's a screenshot, not a video. There's only 1 frame that's ever going to be shown in a screenshot. Now, if there are visible bugs due to performance and hardware issues that's another thing.

It's a screenshot, the performance should not matter. Rockstar can easily put the game at 4K max settings and the game could run at ~10fps, but that wouldn't matter because it's a screenshot, not a video. There's only 1 frame that's ever going to be shown in a screenshot. Now, if there are visible bugs due to performance and hardware issues that's another thing.

There is single pure truth in this words.

 

Even if game runs at 2 fps they should max all out for the screenshot because good fps is not needed in screenshots.

 

For what we saw in those screenshots game seems to be bugged to hell right now. They havent put much effort in it or they just

started porting it from console after console release.

 

Dont get your hopes to high people, it may end up as an amazing game or as a sh*tty port. But things until now are pointing to the second option...

They aren't going to go back on years upon years of advancement with the RAGE engine JUST because some people are still traumatized by how horrible IV was.

 

However, it is not a valid representation of what we should expect in terms of resource usage. Part of why Max Payne 3 was so well optimized was because it was linear, yes. V is gargantuan, and will definitely require more effort to optimize properly.

 

In terms of the game engine, they are very comparable. But in terms of the scale of the games, they couldn't be further apart.

 

For the record, I actually think the 4k screens are fine. Aside from the LOD issues, and the "reported" lack of SSAO. How "horrible" they are is being grossly exaggerated.

 

Please just go play a game in 4k. It's so much easier to see a game's texture imperfections when everything's as clear as can be.

Cant be as bad as gta iv was. Ran like sh*t even on a quad core and good gpu. Its excusable they jammed 2-3 engines plus a bunch of drm, it was a mess. First pancake. gta v will be waaaay better. Also the delay is for the better. delay it for a year lol. If it sucks when it comes out, you will have zero excuses. (rockstar)

But most important, GTA games are open world games with level streaming while you play. This is a significant performance hit compared to a level based game like Max Payne. Why do you think MMOs and open world games like GTA, SR etc always tend to have a worse graphics than FPS games?

 

And then there's things like AC: Unity pushing the graphics and hype to the limit, and I think we all know how well that turned out.

Indeed. But the version of the engine it is using is now long outdated. Max Payne 3's version is much more closer to V's, so the performance impact the engine brings can be measured more accurately.

 

Now of course, the things you mentioned that are specific to GTA, such as a huge reliance on streaming and such, will also factor in greatly.

Payne is GTA. Therefore, it uses the exact same streaming system as V. It's lots closer to GTA than any San Diego title ever was.

As always defending R* at all costs, even after the slap they dealt on us.

 

Anyways... They've delayed the game again, so it indicates us that the game is so screwed because they've focused too much on the console version of Online and forgot about the PC and it's unplayable by now.

 

Honestly, I'd risk another delay, perhaps to May if the screenshots they show'd us what they have to PC right now.. It's very hard believing on them again after IV and the last week incident

 

 

It's called recovery. You're saying as if I'm not shocked by that f*cking delay sh*t.

 

The delay is pure finance play sh*t. T2 fiscal year ends on March. Pure business tactic sh*t.

 

If that were true at all, they wouldn't have opened digital preorders. No, it's so they can give consoles Heists first.

This. "Optimization" is completely subjective on this forum. Because you got more fps on a linear game you think it's better optimized.

 

 

About GTA IV optimization:

I play GTA IV on my 3570k almost everyday... the multicore utilization is much better than most make it out to be. Core 1 max utilization after a gaming session is 100% while the rest are 90-95%. The multicore utilization isn't perfect, but it's not terrible.

I'm not expecting Max Payne 3 kind of optimization. And i'm an optimist. After all, its an open world game, theres bound to be differences. Perhaps only 5-15% worse than max payne 3. Which is still, good.

Maybe the screenshots aren't on ultra settings, because they might release a 4k trailer? Of course the 4k trailer can't be maxed out. That way people won't whine that it doesn't look as good as the screens.

Actually it is killing 2 birds with one shot.

Those are the main reasons for the delay.

And this dude is right. Profit is only recognised by accountants when the product leaves their warehouse.

I'm kinda be on the middle ground. I'm not expecting another sh*t port like GTA IV. At the same time, I'm not expecting an amazing optimized version like MP3. It will be decently optimized.
