I just made this post with more info

https://www.reddit.com/r/chiliadmystery/comments/2st5av/holy_check_this_out/

http://grandtheftdata.com/landmarks/#-1093.61,4955.33,5,satellite,location=Chiliad_Mountain_State_Wilderness,Mount_Chiliad

according to this site chiliad is mt san jacinto

I'm new to the area and wondered if there are any local legends associated with the San Jacinto Wilderness, like alien sightings, lost mines, cryptids (yeti, bigfoot, mothman, etc.) or other paranormal abnormalities? or is it pretty much pretty normal?

Read some of those posts!!

There is the legend of the Eye of the Mountain. It can only be passed down orally and not in writing. Go to the ranger station and ask to speak with Eric, one of the rangers.... (Long Valley RS)

SEE THE EYE

ANOTHER POST:

they had to supply him with young women, whose souls (and perhaps other parts) he lusted for. He ate their souls and killed them. Finally, somehow or other, the tribe managed to wall him up under the canyon. That's why there are rumblings coming of there. Flashes of blue light and rumblings are associated with Tahquitz. And that's why it is not considered safe to go into Tahquitz Canyon. I personally have never been in there.

Altruists camp??

THE LEGEND OF TAUQUITCH AND ALGOOT.

And the noises! Who can account for them? They exist, and there must be some reasonable scientific theory that explains their existence. Some think that there are internal changes going on within the bowels of the mountain, caused by the more rapid radiation of heat than is common elsewhere. If this be a volcanic centre, though there are no great outward manifestations, internal changes undoubtedly are occurring all the time, and these perhaps take the form of falling masses of rock, which, echoing in the hollow vaults beneath, produce the alarming and terrifying noises.

One day this young man and two of his adventurous companions started to climb up Mount San Jacinto, which, however, in those days, and ever since, to the Indians, has been known only as Tauquitch, the abode of the evil spirit.

Do we need to climb chiliad with all three??

Here he lived in a cave, and was guilty of many and great crimes against the people. He had the power of assuming all kinds of disguises, and would inveigle men, women, and children to his lair, where he fell upon them, and ate them.

And he listened in mute anguish while the two lads told how that everything had been happy and gay with them until they reached the Tauquitch Valley. Here, suddenly, loud roars and echoing noises were heard. They were affrighted and wished to return, but the son of Algoot declared he had not come so far to retreat at the first sound of danger. As he was speaking, the heavens were overcast, and suddenly a brilliant flash of lightning came, followed by greater darkness, denser clouds, loud thunders, and more lightnings

There is just so much here, everyone interested in the mystery should read this!

Not sure if trolling. I'm not sure I'm following what you're getting at completely.

Noises, like those distant "vrrrrrrrrrrr" sounds? I've always figured that it's supposed to simulate loud engines or rumble bars in the distance.

I seriously couldn't follow the rest, though.

Just found this. I'm not sure exactly what we need to do

http://www.furbycabin.com/legend.htm

another site about the legend^

One day, the beautiful daughter of one of the chiefs disappeared. Soon after, another was missing and another. The women trembled and the men became enraged-and they all suspected Tauquitch of the evil doing. A search confirmed their fears that Tauquitch had done away with the maidens. For this, the tribe condemned him to death by fire.

Preparations were made and as the flames burned brighter about the condemned Tauquitch, the people gasped. Before their eyes, the form of the chief disappeared and a great spark of fire leaped into the air and wafted eastward toward the mountains. Then the people knew that he was a demon.

The strange rumbling that may be heard even today in the depths of the high mountains was Tauquitch who had taken up an abode in a large cave. In some versions of the legend, this cave was behind Tahquitz Rock and the huge monument of stone was rolled into place before the cave, either by Tauquitch or one of his pursuers.

On the wikia it says Mt Chiliad is based of Mt Shasta...(which also has it's own legends etc)

but then reading further on google someone posted here, http://gtaforums.com/topic/551162-mt-chiliad-based-on-san-gabriel-mountains/wikia said Mt Chiliad was Mt Diablo. (I know the gta wikia is not always correct as they said the humpback whales were blue whales)

Is this Mt San Jacinto a better real life representation of Mt Chiliad then Shasta or Diablo?

There's probably some deeper meaning behind the whole thing, but it'll remain as one more GTA Myth...
