Opinion on PC Build

Recommended Posts

GTX970 is a good card and it's not badly engineered. The only thing wrong is nVidia's bullsh*t marketing.

Though to be fair, I think that AMD has cut down the price of R9-290X and it might be a better value right now. Would have to check that, but I'm on my mobile. Although it's far hotter and consumes way more power.

I have the Fractal Design R4 black and it's damn nice and cool! It's a simple and yet slick looking case without bells and whistles.

It also keeps my i7-4770 and GTX780 cool when playing games and I'd love to play GTAV for hours so anything that can get cooler

is welcome. At the time when the 290 was €50 cheaper, I picked up the GTX780 because of 290 running hotter

and consumes more power and I don't want anything of that.

After almost a year later, I'm still very happy with this build and the CPU and GPU still runs cool and I don't have to be afraid

to play games for hours long :p

Except these summers getting hotter each year but that's normal.

If I were you, I'd wait for videos and reviews to see how GTAV performs on a GTX970 and how much VRAM it needs. Does it exceeds 3,5GB

or does it keep the VRAM always lower than 3,5GB? Who knows.

You really don't want a 290 in the summers.

I'm not talking about the regular 290 though, I'm talking about 290 tri-x. From what I've read, it's cooler than the 780 and quieter. I think I'll go with the tri-x, the FPS difference seems to be small enough that I won't mind and if I ever decide to run at higher resolutions the 290 tri-x is most likely going to run better than the 780 because of the difference in vram.

EDIT: Actually, I might be pretty wrong on it being cooler and quieter than the 780, but still. :p

You sure you don't mean the Vapor-X? Even if you don't mean that I'd take vapor-x over the tri-x, it runs quieter and cooler than some 970s.

Nope, it was the tri-x. Honestly, I'm not sure how trustworthy these sources are, so I wouldn't take it for granted.

Not actually sure if "load noise levels" literally means noise levels as the game loads, but yeah. :p

Don't forget it all depents on which PC case you'll get. Not all cases have the same cooling so the temps may vary.

Okay, I think I'll settle for this. Thanks to for basically creating the list, this is just the near finished final list. Oh and thanks to everyone that replied too, appreciate the input. :)

The only problems I have now is, the HDD that recommended doesn't deliver to Ireland, so does anyone else have any other recommendations? Oh and will this be a major problem?

Try a WD Caviar blue. If you can't get one of them then I would look towards Hitachi.

As for the RAM Voltage, it's fine. A lot of RAM kits run at 1.65V, just make sure you enable the XMP to get the advertised speeds.

WD10EZEX is the best alternative for ST1000DM003.

As for the RAM, you'll be fine. 1.65V is standard for fast memory sticks.

Okay then, I guess that's that. I should be ordering the parts on Friday/Saturday (worst days to order something, but that's the earliest I can do). When I start building it I'll probably run into some strange issue, so don't be surprised if I come back here again asking for more help. :p

Once again, thanks to everyone that has replied and helped with picking the parts for the PC, appreciate it. :^:
