Blu Ray version for collectors and Blu Ray drive owners

We should petition Rockstar to release a limited quantity Blu Ray version for collectors and owners of BluRay enabled PCs.

GTA IV was also a good candidate, because it was on 2 DVDs, with BluRay you dont have to change DVDs and it also looks nice.

What do you think ? Would you buy a BluRay version just because it "looks better", like collectability etc....

Currently it looks like they are not doing Blu, but it would be a good idea.

I know DVD has a bigger install base on PCs.

Doesnt this make you feel all fuzzy inside PC gamers

GFW will not be like in GTA IV.

It won't be in any future game and will be painfully removed from all past games if the gaming Gods are kind to us.

Games for Windows and Games for Windows Live are two different things, although many times confused.

Games for Windows = Console like certification and branding for PC. Can be used for Steam games too.

Games for Windows Live = Microsoft bad response to Steam, also discontinued so no new game can use it.

Yeah, i'm sure the 2 people who own a Blu-Ray driver will sign this petition. Sorry, but unless demand is actually high enough, Rockstar won't do it and i'm afraid to say that with everything moving to the cloud and software market going digital it's never gonna have enough demand. Heck, most modern build don't even come with a DVD drive.

Rockstar doesn't even care about the Physical version, they advertise the Digital version (especially Warehouse edition) like there's no tomorrow.

With this, I can and it is safe to say PC games will be fully digital very very soon.

I don't see the point, it's just a disc.

I'm in the same boat, got an extremely old portable drive that I'll probably never need to use again.

How many people here have Blu-Ray drive that supports BD-R XL 100GB discs? 10?

But unless the PC gaming industry goes totally digital (which may be the case) they'll have to move on to blu-ray sooner or later, I can't see them shipping games in 50 DVDs.

It will be the case.

Like I said, if you received the latest Rocktar Propaganda. You will see they never even mentioned the physical release as if it doesn't even exist.

To be honest, this is actually good. It means Rockstar finally realized most PC sales are from the Digital version.

Even Bluray is bigger, it is slower than DVD right? I think they prefer DVD to minimize install times...

Yeah I've had slow blu ray players in the past but you would only need to install once, maybe a few times over a couple years, so it wouldn't be too much hassle anyway.

I think the only reason is because most people have computers with CD/DVD drives but not BD drives.

My guess is that in around 10 years, they'll be selling games, movies and music stored in flash memory instead of optical discs. Even then, sales of digital copies will dominate.

Bluray is faster. Unless comparing fast DVD drive to slow Bluray drive.

This is why you can't split Bluray movies to multiple DVDs and watch with player with HD-support,

drive would read disc too slow to play at real time.

It could happen, perhaps. I still feel that DVD will be the standard format for many years yet.

Not really. Changing install media takes time too.

I hope sometime there will be games on Blu-Rays... How long did it take from CD to DVD?

Imagine games come still out on CDs... XD

I really doubt it ever happens, digital sales are very popular and blu-ray isn't gaining any popularity on PCs. Many in fact, choose to leave optical drive out of PC.
