Go to google. Type in "car show". Click on images.

As you can see, its all about being creative. Just mess around until you figure out what looks best.

Wheel/tires choice and color choice can make or break a car.

Dark primary. Bright pearl. Don't put huge wings or skirts on stuff. Do not have bright colored rims, leave rim color as an accent, dark color or choose a minimal color rim. Don't put xenon or neon underglow if you're using it as a battle car (too easy to differentiate from an npc car). Also make your own crew so you can choose custom tire smoke the standards are all dull off color smoke.

Do what you want. If anyone talks smack just tell them to STFU.

Haha that actually works because there's no making the Z-Type look good anyway, might as well go all-in ostentatious.

As has been said. It's your choice and taste. If you really want an opinion then you can do loud and proud or simple and conservative without too many giving off. Do odd combos and you risk a back lash. That isn't to say you shouldn't play with the colours and set your own combos, just be aware that some combos will clash and some are inherently overpowering such as complete Chrome/Gold Metal. Others will complement each other and ether soften bright primaries or lift dull primaries Also there are combos that will compliment the cars natural highlights while others will hide imperfections.

The best thing to do is post some pics of your cars in the Rate the car above thread if you want some feed back or a quick one here. Here are a couple of mine for inspiration.

If anyone can help with a quick bit of feedback to help give the OP some direction I would be thankful.

Firstly a couple of Rat Trucks

Here is one of my Z Types with Metal Gold as a secondary colour

You can get really creative with crew emblems, custom stock wheel color glitches, body part removal glitches, license plate change glitches, etc.

Really it's down to your personal taste. I tend to go for more subtle colours but other people like loud bright colours. Your best bet is to take your cars to lsc and mess around with colour/rim options until you find a combo you like. Trying to make good colours combos really makes me want R* to put in a system that's allows you to see what your car will look like before paying for the paint. I must have wasted hundreds of thousands getting the colours right on cars.

Here's one of my cars that I've had plenty of compliments on as an example:

I usually go for neutral and more natural colors. Brown/tan, greens, darker blues. I also tend to drive classics and imo those colors look best on them. If you you want something bright and flamboyant, I would go with a Super car. The Turismo, Infernus, Cheetah, Vacca, ect can all pull off bright colors because they are already eye catching vehicles

For ex.

My Infernus is bright yellow(including black/purple neon, which can look amazing at night) This is one of my cars I will drive if I want to show off and be seen.

As for natural colors, this is one of my daily drivers, see how well it blends.

But in the end it's what you like. Find what fit's your taste and if ppl don't like it, tough. They can go eat a carrot.

Just do whatever you think looks/feels good. Don't just add the most expensive parts, & paint it ridiculous colors just because. And don't think you absolutely have to add performance mods to something like an offroad vehicle that you'll never use for racing anyway.

Best tip for customising a car I can give anyone. Bring GTA$, loads of GTA$ with you, You'll need them. If your pissing around trying everything to get your perfect car unless your doing so in single player it's gonna cost a fortune.

You hit a good point and yet you barely mention it. Practice in Single Player first. Some cars won't be available, but most are and once you've amassed a fortune at the end of the story mode with the lester investments you can practice the craft of car modding to your hearts content. :)

cheers for adding to my comment. I thought it was logical to tryit out in SP first, hence the reason I didn't mention it more.

It is often the obvious that is missed or forgotten first and the most time consuming and expensive mistake. Why do you think it took 20 posts to say it ;):D

OP for the love of god, go to single player and mod some cars ( so you're not out of online money ) and have some fun fixing it up. You're like an Irish girl, you need some color.

FrugalDangerMan

Don't just put the most expensive mods on a vehicle, that's what tasteless douchebags do

Exactly. I max the performance options, but visual modifications I try to keep to what I think looks good. I like the Zentorno's stock hood, the Massacro's 2nd tier rear spoiler, etc.

Try to keep in mind the saying

"Just because you CAN do it, doesn't mean you SHOULD do it."
