driftingcloud
I am definitely going the 970 root. But what it has to be as cheap as possible with out going to reference cards. The evga in question is only 265.99 but has a dispatch time of 1-2 MONTHS. But the only reason im think its a good thing (the wait) is it would tie in nicely with a certain game Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/762094-recommended-gpu-upgrades-for-gtav/page/2/#findComment-1066867744 Share on other sites

But the only reason im think its a good thing (the wait) is it would tie in nicely with a certain game OP, you're in the UK so I think these are available to you locally. If you have already decided on getting a GTX 970, get the Galax 970 EX OC Black edition (if possible). These are one of the lower priced models, at least here in Australia, but is one of the highest factory overclocked 970s (same stated frequencies as the EVGA superclocked model you posted earlier but according to this link it boosts higher when under load) and, looking at some benchmarks for temps, runs incredibly cool with its non-reference cooler. It does require 6 + 8 pin connectors though whereas the EVGA uses 2x 6 pin. I only found positive reviews for the EX OC Black edition apart from some of the expected unlucky ones with coil whine which happens with any graphics card of any brand. Here's a link to the card: http://www.galaxstore.net/GALAX-NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-970-EXOC-Black-Edition-p/97nqh6dnb4tx.htm Search for the cheapest deal on it at your local stores or even online BTW the Galax brand used to be called Galaxy until the partnered with another company. They've been in the business for ages now. I used to use their AGP graphics card 5 to 10 years ago and still have one in an old computer running perfectly (minus the mounds of dust in the case). EDIT: A popular site we use in AUS for comparing computer parts is staticice.com.au I changed it to UK and found three stores with the card. Here's the comparison: http://staticice.co.uk/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=galax+970+ex+oc+black&spos=1 If you have any experience with those stores, go for it. I just did a google search and found another store comparison site: http://pricespy.co.uk/product.php?p=2858355 The cheapest one that came up was £247.60. Here's the link: http://commstelstore.com/graphics%20cards%20nvidia?product_id=628 Both of those comparison sites came up with Overclockers UK, which is well known for their forum and 'tech experts'. Buying locally is my preference but if I were to buy it from any of the sites that came up, I would pick them but the price is £269.99, which isn't the cheapest as you requested. Here's a direct link to the card on their site: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-006-GX Edited January 23, 2015 by babo Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/762094-recommended-gpu-upgrades-for-gtav/page/2/#findComment-1066868837 Share on other sites

It's luck of the draw. ATM I haven't had an amazing overclock on the core (like 1356 or something like that, something like 30/40MHz over the card's stock clock even with stock memory clocks) but the memory... The memory on my card can hit 8.3 GHz effective (stable), at one point I had it running at 8.36GHz (just barely stable). I think they're having a bit of trouble with OC+ ATM though. However, OC+ is only on their AMP Omega and Extreme cards not on their standard AMP card or their normal cards.. Their previous cards from the 700 series were decent overclockers from what I remember researching. However, that was their normal AMP series of cards and I don't think they have an AMP 970 other than the Omega and Extreme cards. The Zotac card I linked is aimed towards people that want the best card they can get on a budget, I'd probably expect it to overclock just as well as the reference card, if not, slightly better. It might sound like a bad thing for a card to only just outperform the reference cards but in reality the reference card is a great overclocker when it comes to the 900 series. driftingcloud
I have managed a stable oc of my asus 760 to 1258 MHz but the ram wont go over 6084 MHz with out black screen. OC is not the be all end all on the 970 i get, but it would be nice to squeeze as much extra fps out of what i spend as possible Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/762094-recommended-gpu-upgrades-for-gtav/page/2/#findComment-1066869229 Share on other sites
