So I have a problem... I know my gpu is better than the recommend gpu but i wish to upgrade anyway.

My problem is to what as im on a budget. I would like to go for a 970 but funds wont seen to stretch that far. So do i hold out for the release of the 960 and go mid range again or do i blow out Nvidia (There my preferred) or go AMD???

Instead of holding out for a 960, save up money while you're waiting and get a 970 instead. It's an amazing card for a relatively cheap price. You could get a 960 if they release it sure, but 1-2 years later are you going to be posting this thread again asking about upgrading again, when you could get a 970 and know for at least 4 years every game will run 1080p max.

Just consider it, from experience I know that I've regretted buying something because it was cheaper, when I could have waited a few extra weeks and got something much nicer.

yeah im finding that already. The problem is i have not long ago spent on upgrading my cpu from a Pentium g3220 with igpu to the i5 and 760 plus the psu. So would be hard to justify my extra spend to the mrs lol

Just keep saving, even if you get GTA V before you get a new card, the GTX760 is perfectly capable of handling the game until you eventually upgrade. Trust me, I can't say it enough, save now and you wont regret it. I had a 760 like you before I upgraded to a 970, I didn't need to, but damn can this thing put out some serious power!

if you cant go for Gtx 970 then go for asus direct cu ii r9 290 (no x version) its not powerfull as Gtx 970 in performance but its power hungry, but 290 have 4gb Vram
which is kinda more good for upcoming future,
if i were you, then i would not look for upgrade only for Gta 5, i will go for future..

in our country (india) dont know about yours,
but here 290 costs 100$ less than gtx 970
im using strix 970, its just amazing, and more amazing when i played assassin creed unity and watch dogs without fan with 62C temperature,

if you cant spend on 290 then you should go for ONLY r9 280x, because it have 3gb vram,
this is More 70$ cheaper than 290 but still its far better GPU THAN GTX 760
and talking about today games, needs more VRAM like Watch dogs and assassin creed, which i played on gtx 970 (it takes 3500mb VRAM ) no stutter
these GAMES will just NOT RUN ON GTX 760, i mean any 2gb vram card,
if you tried to run ultra on 2gb VRAM, this game play will MASSIVE FRAME DROP, average will 15 fps...

i hope i helped..
i shared what i faced while choosing and using GPU..

sorry for my English in hurry..

Wait for the R9 300 Series, it'll tear ass with the HBM stacked memory. (Well, the top-end)

Thank's :). I am going to wait till i have half the £270 needed for the 970 and then sell the 760 (which is only 2 or 3 months old ) for £130 as its in warranty with the store i brought it from and with asus for 3 years

You can always go for the R9 290, its still a beast close to GTX 970 as a matter of fact, it will blow away the 760 and the 960...4GB of Vram, 512 Bit bus, can be used at 1440p or even 4k if in crossfire. 960 will only come with 2GB vram, I'd stay with 760 or get a 290.

Sapphire AMD R9 290 TRI-X OC

I doubt there is much difference between 760 and 960. You should also consider AMD cards.

There is alot actually. A 960 would compete with a 770.

You have 2 months. If you can save up for the GTX970. I wish I had one myself. I have GTX770, bought it like 2 months before GTX970 was released. Should have waited :(

From the reviews, its going to be a $200 card so it will not be a competitor to 770. GTX 960 will be a budged 1080p card with a gimped 128 bit bus.

Yeap, even an R9 280X is better according to the benchmark leaks.:miranda:

Unless you want to save up for the 970, go with a R9 290 or a cheap 290x (Gigabyte and Powercolor have cheap models).

lol. Sure, and there isn't much difference between the 770 and the 970 either.

Call me single minded but i will stick to Nvidia. Im hoping the 970 will drop a little in price when the 960 hit the store's. If so i will be able to sell my gpu and get the 970 and be set for the next 3/4 years

i had one 760 and slapped in another, couldnt afford a top end one. but the SLI 760 has some serious power. runs everything on ultra, max res. averaging 60 fps. only downside is the heat generated, but its not that bad.

I was thinking about sli but i would have to change my psu and mobo and but the 2nd gpu which is more expensive. I'm going to use the 2 months to save up and get the 970 hopefully just in time for gta 5

Ok so I have found a gtx 970 http://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-GeForce-Superclocked-Cooling-Graphics/dp/B00NSXYEQW/ref=sr_1_27?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1421840343&sr=1-27&keywords=gtx+970

Anyone here tell me if it any good as I have had only ASUS gpu's for a few years now?

It's a decent card. EVGA is Nvidia's main partner so they have a reputation to keep. They also have some of the best customer service in the industry from what I've heard.

Don't go with the 960. The R9 280 is cheaper, more powerful and has an extra GB of VRAM with a wider mem. bus to boot.

If it were a 3GB card... eh, maybe a decent choice. But as it stands, it's not something I'd recommend.

I don't think it's worth it.

I'd save up for a GTX970 or stick with the GTX760.

You can't go that wrong with any of the 970s, and I think the initial problems with evga's 970s have been fixed. I would say that the gigabyte g1 windforce 970 is the best 970 performance wise as it has the best cooling, allowing for great overclocking, but it is pretty loud and is the largest, so it may not fit. Msi must be the best overall as it quiet like the asus strix, but has a slight performance advantage. My one is overclocked to around 1500 mhz boost clock, and is still pretty cool and quiet. Evga does have the best customer support though, so there really isn't much of a disadvantage to any.
