should i buy a new router?

If you do, make sure you go and change the password on it, like I said, it doesn't make you immune but it lessens the chances you'll be affected opposed to leaving the password as 1234. 0000, or password.

No change your password first then have someone good with tech like that look in to it, Lizard Squad have been use a Worm to get control of things, it also helps to run a anti-virus scan. If you start seeing problems with the Router, like spikes in lag, and drops in internet speed then get a new one.

The router i got came with a random ass password i should be good?

Same goes for you mate, rule of thumb always change the password from the factory password, there are many ways to bypass the factory passwords easily. Edited by SuzukiBlaze

so if they did somehow manage to get into my router...then what did they do? change the firmware to something custom? shouldnt that be reversible somehow or is the router really permanently hacked?

Plus i dont even see where you can change the router password It should tell you in the handbook for the router, it's mostly done by going to internet settings on your PC, as for the random passwords that come with the router out of the box, one of the ways they've (lizard squad) been bypassing it Is, Admin/Admin and it bypasses the factory passwords on routers via brute force and only works with the factory passwords or very weak ones.

It maybe a lot to read but looks like it can only be fixed via a firmware patch, something that rarely happens for routers, looks like its a waiting game, for now just change your password if you can and hope for you ISP to put out a patch as it looks like the computer worm is on the router it's self via an ip hack, something anti virus programs can't defend against at all must less detect.

Governments have better systems than these kids. They made a spectacle of themselves which drew this kind of attention from the law, the swatting alone is enough grounds to guarantee them a few years of no sunlight. No matter how smart of l33t these kids think they are, they all make mistakes. I wouldn't be surprised if the few they already caught, sing on the rest of the bunch.

Well our Uverse router didnt come with a book? Should it?

i would think so...or you could get a real router and connect it to the uverse sh*t, then put the uverse modem/router into bridge mode to bypass its sh*ttyness

In the local news today:

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/sony-playstation-xbox-hacking-probe-8461801

Neighbours told of their shock at the FBI-led arrest of a Southport teenager following cyber attacks on Sony PlayStation and Xbox systems last year.

The 18-year-old was taken into custody this morning on suspicion of unauthorised access to computer material.
He was also detained for alleged unauthorised access with intent to commit further offences and threats to kill, the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) said.
Neighbours in Boundary Street, a quiet residential road where the teenager lived with his family, told how they saw police cars and a van descend on the small semi-detached house.
One told the ECHO that the teenager was "very quiet" and "stayed in his bedroom".
She said: "He is very quiet young man. I don't know him very well - he stayed in his bedroom a lot.
"I haven't seen the family yet but I imagine it will be a big shock.
"His mum is really lovely.
"He was a student but I don't know if he still is."
Another resident said: "He is very quiet. I'd see him coming in and out of the house but he didn't really say a word.
"I saw a few police cars and a van outside the house this morning as I was going to work.
"It didn't look like they raided the house, it looked like they were let in."
She added: "I just say hello to them on the way out of the house. I don't have a lot to do with them. There's a young girl and a boy who live there."
There was noone at the home this afternoon.

Those won't help them when they're in the prison showers dropping the soap.

Then they will be the ones with lizards in their pipes.

I'm sorry but that's not an excuse...

Justice has been served for those of us who had our GTA:O taken down over Christmas by scrupulous little toe rags

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/jan/16/man-held-over-lizard-squad-cyberattacks-on-psn-and-xbox-live

Good.

Has the person been convicted? Sent to prison? No, then justice wasn't served at all. Not to mention that these hacker groups always give up low level kids to get authorities off their back.

Good.

What justice has been done? All that's happened is the police have arrested a couple guys on suspision. I don't think anyone has been formally charged and no one has been put up in front of a judge and jury yet. The dudes could still walk away without a blemish to their name. Besides, it's just a couple out of who knows how many that have been arrested.
