Winning vs Cheating

Recommended Posts

In any motorsport , if you ram another car off the track , you're disqualified if its proved it was deliberate , with the exception of stock car racing maybe , but Formula 1 , TOCA touring cars , rallies etc....all adhere to this basic code of respect.

If you have to hustle and muscle, its just dirty.

Real racing is all about the actual track being your adversary......getting the perfect racing line , hitting the apex, getting maximum traction out of a corner , beating a previous lap time.

My question is this : If you are one of those who rams everyone off a track and is lucky enough not to spin your car in the process , do you feel like you actually won it , or deep down inside do you feel like you cheated ??

Do you think " a win is a win no matter how its achieved " or do you secretly think " the race belonged to that other guy I tapped at the last corner " ??

this is gta mate...

being dirty comes with the territory.

dont like getting rammed, play non contact races.

^ This. While I agree with the OP to an extent; trying to convince people to race clean in a game called 'Grand Theft Auto' is an operation doomed to fail. Your best bet is to join a clean racing crew, race with friends, or play non-contact races; the mode was created for a reason.

I've played non contact and I don't like it. It doesnt feel like wheel to wheel racing , and I have to disagree about GTA not being a racing game. Look at the map and see how many chequered flags there are on it. Its about cars....hence "auto" in the game name. I view it more as a racing game than an "unleash chaos" game.

It may be about cars, but the game is named after vehicle theft, generally not a 'clean' activity. Personally I think the beauty of GTAO is it's whatever kind of game you want it to be to an extent; if you're solely focusing on races then it is a racing game, but the same could be said for those that play nothing but deathmatches, or some of those crews that like to RP (each to their own). The game is what you make it; unfortunately however most of the population of players probably see the game as an 'unleash chaos' game.

The closest analog for GTAO standard race type would be illegal street racing. The rules are what the participants make them.

If you want clean racing, the thing to do is race with trusted friends/crew, or lacking those, join one of the multiple clean racing crews.

I think you're asking the wrong question though. For many people this is the way to win, not one of several options. If you are a decent racer you can win without dirty moves, but if you're not very good at racing you're going to be left behind by those who are. They have to resort to dirty driving to stand a chance. I think the real question is "would you rather win dirty or lose clean?"

And many people would rather win dirty. So yeah, I believe many players who win a catchup + slipstream Long Haul race by taking out everyone in sight feel like they have truly won a race.

Keyword... in any "Motorsport"

GTAOnline is not a god damn motorsport... It's a video game. And if you don't want to get rammed off the track, host your own race and set it to "non-contact"

Why is it people are still moaning about this?

I prefer non-contact but I don't want to wait 20 minutes before every race waiting for people to join. So I join random races and they're mostly sh*t.

But yea, it's a great feeling when someone tries to ram you and they crash themselves. Awesome.

OP, go buy a proper racing game (Forza, GT) GTA is about mayhem, learn to counter / avoid it and you'll win races in GTA

Its very hard to counter when slipstream and catchup are on. It makes getting the boost at the start totally redundant cos they're gonna catch up with you anyway , and then one tap and you're in a tailspin and looking at a post the wrong way round.

The highlights for me in GTA have been having a great race , fighting tooth and nail over every inch of tarmac without colliding , and actually getting one inch away from the other guys wheels, hounding him through every corner, pressurizing him into making a mistake , but still respectful.

I find that kinda racing much more of a test of wits and car control, than just aiming at another car and ruining my race and everyone elses race around me.

If I win, I know it was hard fought for, and it feels great.

If I dont win , I'll have gained another players respect , and i'll be happy to have had a great challenge , so its a win / win situation for me.

Everyone keeps saying how this is GTA and discussing the race types, but no one is answering the boy's questions. They're good, simple questions, why is it so hard for people to answer? He's asking you how you feel about winning with your preferred racing style, not to compare GTA to other games...

I think that's a good point. I don't think he's asking the wrong question, though. He said his question is specifically for people who already rather win dirty

I feel just fine knowing that homeboy should've driven faster if he didn't wanna get hit. Of course, I know I didn't cheat because this isn't motorsport, real life, or even a real racing game.

Then I sleep like a baby.

But actually I race pretty cleanly. I don't apologize when sh*t happens though.

I don't intentionally race dirty. Either I brake too late and smash into someone, take a turn too fast and send someone off a cliff, I was in a bicycle race went up a jump and landed on a player I survived other dude didn't. I always laugh though, and people get pissed thinking I did it on purpose

Personally I think that the racing code should apply in all contact races that aren't designed to be close quarters and/or quick and compact.

In races I'll only ram and attempt to spin you out if you do it to me 3 times, you get 3 chances and if you blow all 3 chances you pay the price, fair and simple.

However back to my first point. When I say close quarters and compact I mean races that have very short tight tracks that only have room for 4-6 players at a time. I've been in a few lobbies that have been made to resemble the Street X tracks from NFSU2 and in each and every one of these races a lot of paint was traded, but thats what makes it fun and if your using cars like the Rhapsody and Blista nudging and trading paint add's a bit of fun to the races.

marshallbslayer

Most people that try to wreck on purpose suck at driving (which is why they resort to dirty racing) so it doesn't bother me too much. I can usually catch them back before the race is over, or they kept catchup on because they're a noob (which makes it even easier!)

a3HeadedMonkey

Loss Leader + catch up + slipstream = guaranteed bullsh*t.

It's just the way this game & the majority of players work unfortunately. If you want a clean race, join a racing crew and/or turn off all assists. Either that or just go play a proper racing game.

Shut the f*ck up and use that no-contact setting.

You cant ask GTA players to treat racing as if its a real life race. You're asking people to be civil in a game full of mayhem, you may as well ask a 3 year old for logic.

The issue is that the majority of players in any and every online game are unethical, amoral assholes with no conscience, because they can play dirty with impunity, and in fact they love the extra rage that is generated when they play dirty. This is their pathetic nature.

If there were any true downside consequences for these assholes, like sometimes happens in real life, they would quickly be discouraged, and would leave for some other corner of the internet where they can stroke their insecurities and make people rage, without consequence.

So here on the GTA Forum, the only difference is that we try to rationalize the assholes by reminding everybody that GTA is a crime game and so it's completely justified to act like total assholes all the time. But assholes are assholes in any context; the game does not matter.
