Regarding side activities in GTAV vs 4

Alpha Demigod

Am I the only one that prefers GTA4 side missions to GTAV? The thing is, while parachuting and stuff is a good amount of zany fun, after you beat the story you have little context in which you can use your weapons and shoot people. In GTAIV the side missions actually had action, and were cool. Stevie's car thefts was a very fun and intellectually demanding experience in comparison to what videogames normally offer.

I will add I have not played GTAV since 2013, so if I missed a few do let me know.

GTAV:

  • Street Race
  • Trevor Drug Run
  • Bail Bonds
  • Parachuting
  • Hunting
  • Strip Club
  • Golf
  • Yoga

GTA4:

  • Jacob's runs
  • Brucie car theft
  • Stevie Car Theft
  • Street Race
  • Roman's Taxi
  • Awesome vigilante system
  • Strip club
  • Pool

After beating the story in GTAV you have practically no excuse to shoot people and do action stuff. There are only 4 bail bonds, and the drug runs are boring. In GTAIV you have a massive list of "most wanted" guys in the police computer who provide a great amount of action post-game.

Actually both are lacking in terms of side fun to do and, while V does easily offer a number of options over IV but ultimately it's not amazing ( compared to the classic SA ) at the same time, and felt lacking in the sense that IV, at least, featured stuff ( most notably; vigilante and most wanted ) that one would feel invested in playing them.

In short, I personally find V activities less interesting ( though it could be fun for others; simply a matter of preference! ) than IV, while IV are more interesting with the vigilante system allowing a good worth of replayability out there over anything V offers, but lacking as well for a little bit more such variety in content.

That's how I feel to be the case with both of them regarding side-activities. In the end; both of them fail to fully satisfy IMO.

I was disappointed by how few bail bond side missions there were. With huge map, heaps of NPCs, these could've been auto-generated after Maude retires. Instead of doing them for her, she gives Trevor control of the laptop, leading to endless supply of optional tasks. You won't know what target comes next and they could be located anywhere on the map. Replay value right there.

Same with Assassinations. Hell, they should have not written Simeon out of the script and made repo missions an ongoing thing. Simeon texts: "Green Adder at Vinewood Hills surrounded by some mob looking fellows, go fetch".

As much as I love V, i can't understand why a Rockstar didn't add these types of things as recurring jobs.

op you missed a few there was bowling and darts and romans taxi missions were gone after romans sorrow in gta 4. i agree i love gta 5 but your right there arent alot of action side missions. the bail bonds were awsome and like someone said they could have been endless. but one thing both games have that are awsome is strangers and freaks. they were very fun in all the games they appeared gta 4,eflc,rdr,gta 5. they provide some fun and unique stuff to do. its a shame rockstar made such a big detailed map but dosent use alot of the areas. i guess all we can hope for is more stuff with dlc.

Gantons Most Wanted

As crap as the driving was in IV I have to admit that it definitely had better side activities like Jacobs Runs, Pool and Car Thefts. Those are three things I can't understand why they didn't end up in V it would have definitely added to the game or if the businesses we bought had jobs inside the interiors like in TBOGT where you do Club Management or Vice City Stories Empire Missions something like that would be welcomed in my eyes whether it be in SP or Online it'd add to the replay value.

Nope you're not the only one mate. I too felt that IV had better side activities than V, especially where crime is concerned. IV just had better things to do outside if the storyline.

We deffo need vigilante missions back, varied ones. Respond to robberies, muggings, shootouts, speeding indiviuals.

And it be better if it was more natural feeling instead of IV with the computer, and instead you can respond to radio calls to go to crimes around the game world.

After improving on them so much in IV why were they missing in V?????

..the bike races where you could hit people in the face with a Bat. Real fun times.

this, it would have been great play as Trevor and engage in those races, V needs more country side activities and this one could have been perfect, don't know waht the f*ck was going thru R* minds when they didn't bring back this activivity

Trevor's rampages, off-road races, sea races, stock car races, gun range, flight school, triathlons. 4 also had golf in ballad of gay tony, triathlons too. I think lost and the damned had arm wrestling.

I just feel GTA IV's side missions capture being a criminal a lot better. I was never a big fan of the paramedic, firefighting, valet, trucking missions etc from the 3D era. I liked with GTA IV R* opted for more focus whilst still allowing flexibility with the minigames like darts, pool, bowling etc which to me still add plenty of replay value.

GTA V on the other hand hinders its potential having multiple protagonists. You can really tell how flawed it is when switching to Michael and Franklin and the fact they can't do most of this stuff. I like the arms dealing, but that's the only one I like to be honest.

I also think a game calling itself Grand Theft Auto and not having any sort of lucrative side venture surrounding vehicle theft is kind of sad. I really enjoyed stealing vehicles for Brucie and the ones for Stevie testing my knowledge of the city. As MM77 said Simeon could've stayed in the story longer and given us repo missions.

So to the OP no you're definitely not the only one.

Imagine if all the cool "criminal" activities from online came into sp such as gang attacks and they added random vigilante missions?

And instead of buying all this sh*tty properties that require you to deliver booze as a side mission, they should of had more illegal businesses with more action packed side missions.

Overall, yes the game isn't lacking in number, but it is in substance, and more replayable side activities would be nice. The cop AI and spawning is beyond redemption so this should be a good replacement.

GTA: San Andreas takes the cake for side activities and minigames.

In the HD era, my favorite minigame is golf in GTA V and my favorite side activity is the vigilante missions in GTA IV.

Golf in V is very well done. Maybe not on par (har har) with a Tiger Woods game, but it works very well, and the added banter between you and whomever you're golfing with adds that GTA touch to what is otherwise a solid golf game. Plus, hitting people with the golf ball is always hilarious.

My personal favorite thing to do is wait for my golf partner to walk up to the cart, and drive away just before he gets in.

I was disappointed there was no car export list in SP (remember the list at the docks in like every 3D era game?) and that some mission only mechanics were just that - mission only. I remember thinking as I re-arranged containers at the docks as Trevor "Cool, now this'll be unlocked to make some extra cash".
Definately missed a few of their own tricks imo.

We got a badass here. lol. JK.

lol I'm talking single player of course, I don't know why it's just funny to me to watch that golfer guy you meet in a random event walk up to the cart, and then speed off before he gets in and make him walk to the next hole.

Maybe I'm just easily entertained.

there lazy giving us such sh*t content that most players get rid of such as useless overpriced cars sh*t guns though its a free DLC its sh*t just give us activities such as pool the gym vigilane missions i mean a 10 year old game has way more things to do and theres just no excuse why they can't bring back all that there's even no clucking bell for f*ck sakes

Lazy. No, you don't create a game like GTA V by being lazy. They excluded certain things for unknown reasons, but lazy is not one of those reasons.

I'm pretty sure the reason is GTAO.

As if SP was supposed to bore you, so you had to check out the Online for more activities.
