I'm really hoping this version isn't broken like other UWP games. I would love to play a fully fledged Forza game on Windows.

18.8 GB? Huh, I thought the Apex edition would be much smaller than that.

Edit: I did some brief testing and I do get a stable frame rate at ultra settings in 1080p but I can't tell what the game is locked to. Judging by how responsive the game feels I think it runs above 30 FPS, possibly at a locked 60 for the most part, but I haven't tried any sort of frame rate counter. I did encounter some hitches and freezes, a big one in particular which lasted about 2-3 seconds. This was predictable given that the game is still in beta.

I'm running an R9 290 and I've got it all cranked to ultra. Feels plenty smooth enough to play. I get slight jitters sometimes on certain parts of the Rio track. Runs fine otherwise. I had to install a hot fix for my video drivers in order to get it run at all though.

 

Does anyone know what the deal is with Apex? Is it going to get carpacks? Is it going to be a fully fleshed out game, or is it just supposed to be a sample of what you can do with the game on console?

I also ran the game on Ultra with 8X MSAA at 1080p 60 FPS. V-sync doesn't work very well according to Dxtory. It doesn't stay locked to 60 even in menus.

 

The performance is, well...not so great. I do get a smooth 60 most of the time but there is definitely some hitching and even freezing on my i5 4460 and 980 Ti. This could be a CPU bottleneck\issue or Microsoft is sh*tting all over NVIDIA again. Still, it should be fixeable.

GPU usage is not very high. The fact that I can use 8X MSAA without any difference compared to lower AA settings is insane but it is a racing game after all, which means it's not that complex. Plus you are supposed to be able to run this game at 4K 60 FPS on a single high end GPU. I will post a video regarding the performance on my set-up soon.

Been having a poke in the game files for Apex and found everything is in zip files

 

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.ApexPG_1.0.6.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe

 

However every zip file comes with "Unsupported Compression Method" error when extracting in 7zip.

It's a glorified tech demo/proof of concept for the game engine. Future Forza releases are supposedly slated for release on PC alongside the console versions though.

I bought Forza 1, 2, 3, 4 and Horizon today for half the price of a new game. I'm really looking forward to doing a full playthrough of this series (hopefully on PC as well). It seems like the kind of racing game I've been waiting for all along.

So... There's a NASCAR expansion coming out today/may already be out

 

Homestead-Miami Speedway gets a mention in the trailer.

A 10 hour 'campaign'

 

As for the cars... Well...

2016 Chevy SS

2016 Chevy Super Sport (I assume they're using a different engine or something, that or it's marketing talk to try and beef up the unique car list can't see many reasons for saying SS and then later saying Super Sport for another model)

2016 Ford Fusion

 

Of course, each one gets many different variations in terms of decals, but in terms of unique cars, it's a pretty pathetic list which'll set you back $20. Might be worth picking it up if you REALLY want it or if you're a NASCAR fan, but other than that, I see no reason to buy it tbh.

I don't have Forza 6, but after hearing of the NASCAR DLC, I'll probably go pick it up. I'm glad that they implemented the drafting/slipstreaming mechanics for Daytona. Anyone try the expansion out yet? What is the AI like?

One thing I don't like is the fact that they only added a few cars, but I think it'll be cool to have multi-classes races at Indianapolis against Indycars.

 

​Would you recommend it to a huge NASCAR fan? It's currently the only NASCAR game on next gen till this fall.

 

​But regardless of how good the game is, can we just take a minute to appreciate how amazing these graphics are?

UPDATE:

The DLC is pretty fun. I love the new campaign and new series they added. Homestead feels really great. A lot of people are complaining about the drafting being broken. There was a new update released but I haven't tried it yet. Does anyone know if that fixed it?

NASCAR has its own affinity level?

 

 

Yeah. If you look in the affinity menu it has its own. I thought that driving each NASCAR would contribute to the manufacturer's affinity Chev, Ford and Toyota, but not the case.:)

I wish I could get my controller to work on the beta, but haven't been able to figure out a way, f*cking keyboard is awful.

One of the reasons my friend hasn't been able to play it was because of this. Apex wouldn't register her wheel setup as a controller so she couldn't play. Racing with a keyboard on something other than Hot Wheels is just attrocious.

What controller? I have a 360 controller (with the Wi-Fi adapter) and it works great even though it says you should use an Xbox One controller.

 

For the people playing the PC beta, what PC specs do you have? My CPU is apparently too weak for this game. I get stutters and freezes in 1080p maxed out.

These graphics are really good. I could even mistake them for real life if I didn't know any better.

Are you solely looking at photos, or are you looking at gameplay as well? Players can easily tell the difference, because in order to run at 60 fps on console the graphics have been toned down a little. Photo mode can make the game look better than it plays, but it is still a beautiful thing.

APEX is some of the best fun I've had in a racing game in years. I'm guessing they're planning a full PC release at some point? Does anyone know?
