elscuberino
are there any fans here who always play and support the original version of each game? for me i only play the trilogy (III/VC/SA) on ps2. thats the console it was designed and intended for and every other version is just a port. ive 100% every version and on the XBOX/PC versions i feel something was lost in translation from ps2. what about V? ive heard some people say they will stick to old gen simply because its the original. whats your thoughts? Pavle
I'm sticking to the old-gen version of V. Mostly because I can't afford a PS4/XB1. And I play VCS on the PS2. OneManCrimeWave, The Dedito Gae and Vice City criminal
Laura91
That's pretty much how I feel. I don't care about the newer generations of GTA. I stick to the PS2 and PS1 stuff because that's just what I like. Plus, I've reached a point in my life where I don't care about keeping up with the latest video game stuff. Once the PS2 came out, that was enough for me. Hell, when I was a young child, I remember the Atari 2600. So, the PS2 was good enough for me. Sure, the graphics on the newer systems do look really cool. But, I have more important things to purchase when it comes to fun stuff. Nico
what about V? ive heard some people say they will stick to old gen simply because its the original. whats your thoughts? You're wrong. The "original" GTA V, the game they have been developing for the last 5 years, is the current gen one. Last gen versions were a downgraded port. You can easily notice this in the first trailer. And, I don't know what is the big deal of having the "original" versions. Sometimes those original versions have more bugs and problems than the latter ones. helpplease
I have played GTA starting with the first and lets put nostalgia aside, it was crap. No map, radar and the text crawler was too fast. It was a game where driving around and getting in random chases was more fun than the missions. I haven't played 5 yet but GTA 4 had problems and I prefer the PS2 gen. Nico
The first trailer. If you compare the first trailer with last gen, and last gen with current, you will understand. They made the original game with PS4 and Xbox One in mind, and after it went gold, they started to make a port. Lower resolution textures, less objects, less features, and more things that were "softened" to make the game run on the old systems. It was a win-win situation, R* got a billion in three days by selling the game for consoles that were already established in the market. Anyway, let's get back on topic. Honestly I never played too much time on the PS2 versions of the games, so I can't really tell. I guess the most valued original version is the PS2 version of SA, with that lovely yellow atmosphere. Did you see the frightened ones? Did you hear the falling bombs? Did you ever wonder... ...why we had to run for shelter when the promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue sky? donnits
I played III/VC/SA on my cousin's PS2 when those games came out. Later got III and SA for the original Xbox. Got LCS for the PSP when it came out and VCS on the PS2 later. Played IV on my brother's Xbox 360, which he later gave to me. Got EFLC when the standalone disc came out. Got V on release day. Bought the enhanced version of V sometime in December. Never really played VC that much when i was younger, got it like a year ago for my laptop, though. That's my story. theGTAking101

KarimNTerr
It depends on the game. For example, GTA1 and GTA2 are way better on PC. Personally, I prefer the PS2 versions of GTAIII, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas since I have the limited, GTA: The Trilogy edition on that platform. I also think that GTA: San Andreas is better on PS2 as shown in video. The atmosphere of the original GTA: San Andreas is what made love that game in the first place. I prefer GTA: Liberty City Stories and GTA: Vice City Stories on PS2, I'm not a big fan of handheld consoles to be honest, nothing beats a 32 inches screen in my opinion. Not sure about GTA: Liberty City Stories, but the PS2 version of GTA: Vice City Stories has many more contents than the PSP one, without counting the numerous bugs and glitches fixed in the latter version. I prefer the original versions of GTAIV and GTA: Episodes from Liberty City mostly because of the manual within the case of their respective games, and the box art itself. There aren't many differences between the firsts and GTAIV & Episodes from Liberty City: The Complete Edition, though. Finally, there's no doubt about the fact that GTAV is better on New-Gen than Last-Gen. PS3 and Xbox 360's Hardware limitations widely affected the game's ambition. The differences between these two versions are enormous, and I think that the PS4 and Xbox One versions do full justice to the game's beauty. However, as I've already said it depends on the game, but also on the player's preference and platform of choice. savidge
I've played GTA III, VC, SA, IV and V on the console version (PS2/PS3, none of that Xbox stuff ) before I played them (except IV and V) on my laptop. Although PC master race and all that crap, I still much prefer the console versions. Only because that's what R* intended to make them for in the first place. Just my personal opinion though. There aren't many differences between the PC and PS1 version of GTA1, with the exception of some minor things such as the game's menu, loading screen, et cetera. GTA1 itself came out on DOS first, followed by the Microsoft Windows, PS1, and Game Boy Color ports. GTA: London, 1961 is only available on PC, though. On the other hand, GTA2 has many more differences between the PC and PS1 version (without counting the Dreamcast and Game Boy Color versions), and these are: - Of course, the graphics and textures are better on the PC version.* - The PS1 version has daytime only, while in the PC version you're able to change it through the game's menu following these steps: GTA2 Manager > Video > Lighting > Noon/Dusk.* - The announcer that says the famous line "And remember: respect is everything!" at the beginning of the game, as well as the infamous "Wasted!" and "Busted!" whenever you die or get busted, isn't present in the PS1 version of the game.* - Customizable controls, subtitles speed, and gamma value are present on the PC version only. - You can manually change the radio station by pressing F1 or F2, exclusively available on PC. - The game was rated "T" for "Teen" on PS1 - curiously, it's the only game in the GTA series with this rating. - The HUD is a little bit different. - Obviously, Mods. *: The reasons are because the PS1 couldn't support so much mechanics like the PC version of the game. Both GTA1 and GTA2 has a Multiplayer mode, which is exclusive to the PC version. Edited January 12, 2015 by toxluv

MrDeSanta
Well if i`d stick only to those original 3, VC, SA, IV and V then i`d have very little to do in my gaming free time. I`d end up my GTA gaming along time ago then. If i remember how much fun i had with the DLCs like VCS and EFLC.. As for original V, it really isn`t any impressive, to me it never was even when it came out so i was more than happy when i got a hold of NG V copy and now i`m quite impressed by this game. If it wasn`t for NG V release then the V SP would be forgotten very qucikly. The replay value of the original V SP wasn`t exactly impressive so the NG copy is the only thing that kept SP V above the surface.

thatstupidbug
when it's possible, I try to stick with the original, unedited, unaltered version...so my favourite Vice city isn't just the PS2 one, is the PS2 V.1 one, with haitian-unfriendly lines, bugged tear-gas bombs and uncut songs (running with the night, In a big country etc... ) HOWEVER... playing the first version on the market doesn't mean you're playing the "original" vision R* had for the game. For example, GTA III is an interesting case: 1) the ps2 version has things that are unique, like the intro screen showing the original, blue police cars (PC intro has the black one), and the radio still plays "O mio babbino caro", the famous opera song put in every trailer (and still removed in every other version, even today) 2) BUT the PC version added a lot of propos in Portland. While it's easy to dismiss those props as just a subtle way to enache the PC port, part of those propos where in the ps2 version during the alpha/beta stage...So while the ps2 has some things from the original concept, the pc (don't know about the xbox) has OTHER things from the original concept. Look at this video to have some proofs (the video is not mine, of course) see? searching the "original" version of a GTA is as hard as finding beta stuffs Tikhung

I mean why would I pay more to have stuff I should've already had? Last-gen V is fine on it's own. These supposed bugs you mentioned are not game breaking so I don't know what you're on about. I'm sticking with 'old' V because I don't think a couple of stupid extra features like higher res grass and neon is worth another $60 or another playthrough. lol232
I prefer GTA: Liberty City Stories and GTA: Vice City Stories on PS2, I'm not a big fan of handheld consoles to be honest, nothing beats a 32 inches screen in my opinion. Not sure about GTA: Liberty City Stories,Well, PSP version of LCS is better than the PS2 version (plus you can also buy the component cables accessory if you want to play it on a TV screen), LCS on PS2 has numerous bugs (such as the running animation having incorrectly placed legs) and the city itself looks better on PSP. Plus, LCS on PSP has multiplayer as well. But yes, the PS2 version of VCS is the best. Now, when it comes to GTA III, I love the XBOX version, I used to hate it, but now I actually find it enjoyable, the city feels more dark and twisted and I love how many other places have even more objects around than the PC version. (XBOX was a powerhouse back in the day), so I'd say the XBOX version is the best, but I love the PS2 version too, I prefer the gray weapon HUD and some vehicles (Sentinel and Infernus) have better textures/models than the PC version. The PC version is alright, though. When it comes to VC, I liked the original, V 1.40 PS2 version the most, which was the launch version, simply some songs haven't been deleted on it, the cone crazy trick not being fixed, "Haitian unfriendly" lines being uncut, and the trails option being in the game options menu. The XBOX version is still great, along with the PC version. When it comes to GTA SA, it's quite debatable, for me, it's a tie between the XBOX and the PS2 version, the PC version is okay although it has numerous bugs and it was a pretty crappy port. When it comes to GTA IV+Episodes, the console versions are pretty cool, and I prefer those open suits rather than the one in the PC version, but, other than that, despite that the PC version was a sh*tty port, the graphics are "holy sh*t balls" so much better on the PC version, it just crushes the console version. And, finally, when it comes to GTA V, the NG version is a lot better than the LG version, but we're yet to see how the PC version will be. I hope I'll enjoy it as I enjoyed other titles of the series.
