Get Squirrel with It

CaliMeatWagon

For those of you who don't know, there is a way to "Squirrel/Wing Suit" in the game. I've been doing it for quite awhile and I'm the majority of people I bump into don't know how to do it. So I thought I would make a video illustrating how and share it with you guys. Hope you peoples make some use for this and can/will share some of your attempts at doing this.

Be interesting to compare how far you get with this vs holding the stick only slightly forwards, which is what I do. Most chute jobs I wing suit through the first two checkpoints at least.

I might try to do just that right now.

Yep, the jump I made from the cable car building is the main point in the deathmatch I created just to practice this. I've made it into the ocean, the police station, the homeless camp (around the mountian), Beakers garage. There are a couple of other points to jump from also. From the south side of the Chiliad you can get to the Alamo Sea, the first of the bridges in Ranton Valley (the big train one). And I too, try to do as much as I can doing this in parachute jobs.

This needs to be patched and replaced with a real wingsuit.

Imagine wingsuiting to a hydra floating right up in the sky and stealing it from someone.

That would be awesome. Does anyone know if it's possible to free fall and enter a car that's also falling? I've tried a few times with a car under the Cargobob but I've either lost sight of it or it's gone too fast to catch up to.

Maybe if someone else was flying the 'Bob and you were in another heli some distance below you might have the best chance. It'd be great to enter a car in mid air then bail out before impact and parachute to safety.

I don't think it's possible, but one of the trickiest aspects to this is different items have different terminal velocities in the game. For instance, I jumped before my buddy released a tank from the height limit (I was in same choppy) and the tank passed me and I ended up not being able to catch back up to it.

You're probably right but there's still that ultra slim chance that everything might come together perfectly, the car is level with you for a split second with the door facing you and you time your button press to perfection.

Whether you would glitch inside or the door would tear off in your hand who knows, or if the physics of the game simply won't allow it.

Either way it's a challenge to have a go at, I always like to set myself virtually impossible tasks in GTA games and this might be the one for GTA5.

Well if you manage to accomplish that let me know. I would love to get it on film if possible.

I got distracted crate hunting yesterday...

0_0.jpg

...but I did try flicking the stick (ooh er) and I liked what little I saw of it. Will do some science today, see which method takes me further from max altitude over a few runs.

Any findings on this?

I did two jumps, one using my old method and one with the OP's, but I don't think I perfected the rhythm until about halfway through the fall so I'm gonna do it again whilst recording, just haven't got round to it. Those two runs, I ended up fairly close each other, but they were just trials - the OP method showed promise though.

It's on the top of my GTA ToDo list ;)

What is your old technique? I know the general idea obviously but to get into specifics, what exact position are your character's hands in when you feel you've got the right amount of push on the analogue stick? Edited by Nacho Z

Hold the stick ever-so-slightly forward. I don't look at the hands particularly, I practiced a lot a while ago using the speed of my arrow on the map and now just have muscle memory for where to hold it - I think like you say though, with the palms just facing you.

I've mastered free fall in this game, I've done over 4500 parachute races, and I can fly on almost every jump, some jumps it's not feasible. It takes allot of practice and muscle memory development, it's not something you can teach people, as they have to develop their own groove for it. But once you get it, it's like riding a bike and something you won't forget. I remember before they added the jet icon, I would sometimes fly across the map in free roam. Some people would go into passive mode thinking I was a jet inbound.

Exactly, catching the bag in flight school is the perfect start if you want to learn how to do it.

Im really confused, am I missing something? You've always been able to do it. Infact theres a flight school mission that teaches you to do it.

No need to be confused, it's not a secret technique known only by a chosen few but the fact remains not everyone knows how to do it. I taught a friend the other day and after he got the hang of it he texted "that was amazing!!!"

He's not wrong.

Im just surprised, I assumed (which I guess I shouldnt) that it was common knowledge. So never thought anything of it.

There are some awesome clips on youtube with people flying throw tight spaces etc

Best way to get the general hang of it is to go to SS airfield, take your Buzzard up to 8000 ft, jump out and try to fly to Chamberlain Hills. Using slight forward movements on the left analog stick just to maintain forward speed, but not pressing too hard bc then it will throw you into terminal velocity dive. Few good jumps to practice on are Jump Wings, Timber, HALO, and The Cove which in general are the easiest jumps to learn it on. But again it takes practice, and it's not something you'll master right away, and you'll most likely f*ck up and die many times in the process, especially if you do proximity ones flying close to the mountain faces, buildings etc.

I know there's some really cool videos of it out there, I think there's a crew called Sky Children who's video I watched which first got me into it.

I did one earlier today and lets just say, if I ever needed a vasectomy, well I don't need one now. I almost had to look away it was so close.

Yes and no. The flight school one mainly has you holding full forward. This technique allows you to get max distance while in there.

It's about getting tiny speed boost to without loosing altitude.

But this is time consuming. To practice I created a death match on top of Mt. Chiliad. No weapons, tons of parachutes, plenty of places to jump from. Just make sure you don't pull your 'chute so you can let your character die. This way you respawn back on top of the mountain. The link to the match is in the description of the video.

It is time consuming, like I said race wise it took me over 500 jumps to get really good at it and over 2000 to basically master it. Even still I'm always tweaking it, and perfecting certain aspects of it. It's not hard, definitely not rocket science in the sense, but it's all in the left thumb, and muscle memory with anything takes time.

OP, you're doing it wrong.

Like others have said, you hold the stick forward a little. The controller/game accepts analog input, you don't have to keep tapping forward to achieve this like you're playing some old PS1 game with the d-pad.

Might be because I'm on the 360, don't know though.

It works fine for me. And what I've found with other methods is you tend to lose altitude quicker. With this method you still get a speed boost to your forward momentum while losing the same amount of altitude as if were just free falling with no inputs. But thank you for telling me I'm doing it wrong.

Mini game: Fly a jet at full speed, eject, chase your jet as close as you can.

I do this a lot in a couple of my races. They are GTA races that start in the middle of the 6 lazer jets in Fort Zancudo. Get of your bike and fly a jet to the next checkpoint or you can just fly jets and wingsuit around the map for the hell of it, respawn back to start and repeat.

Lazers come with a free parachute. You have to be Rank 11 to get the chute.

Also: It ticks me off that R* still hasn't fix the creator. When you place parachutes in a GTA race it will cause all consoles to lock up when the race is launched. It's been this way for a year and I have removed several of my races because of this.
